you guys might think that Kairosfocus is being absurd and histrionic when he complains that atheists have destroyed civilization. What fools you are!

Sounds a wee bit hypocritical to me. But what do I know, what with a pocket full of palpitatos and all.

You know how basically every blog now has a comment section where you can upvote and downvote? Uncommonly Dense will never implement that. They know every BS77 post would get a dozen downvotes and BatShit would freak out.

They'd just ban anyone who downvoted. That would take care of that problem!

We joke, but...they would actually consider that. I think they'd have a problem though because they would realize that they'd have to ban a lot of their traffic.

Sev@10, I have always been deeply disturbed by the use of the term “chosen people” in the bible when referring to the Jewish people. Especially since this was referring to their ancestry, not their religious beliefs. As such, I have always had a difficult time arguing that this is not fundamentally racist in nature.

On one of the many Darwin caused racism threads.

I won't claim to be any sort of religious scholar but, uhhh.

It's the Jewish scriptures, that the bible descends from, that were written by Jews, that claims that they are both the "chosen people" and have the "right religious beliefs" handed to them directly by Yaweh. And that wasn't until after the warrior class took over control of Judea and got rid of the previous pantheon that Yaweh was a part of and made it monotheistic.

I guess that makes this particular case no less race-centric but that's what humans have done tribalistically since forever. This tendency to ignore previous and obviously related religious invention, like Atram-Hasis thru Gilgamesh to mention some low hanging fruit, and obtusely argue as though "the bible" or any other scripture or belief has no inconvenient ancestry is par for the course.

Much like their view on life, having poofed completely whole with fins and wings intact, so too goes their "deeply held beliefs."

This did make me chuckle though as it reminded me of that artwork that was created for Ham's (Aussie idiot) museum of bullshit that showed the descendants of Ham (biblical brat character) emigrating to Africa. Ham (Aussie idiot) got the big-time vapors when people pointed out this ahistorical bullshit played into the centuries old beliefs (read:justification) that black folk were cursed by god, less than human, totes slave material, etc. etc.

Argumentum ad consequentiam again. At no point did Darwin advocate the sort of horrors perpetrated by the twentieth-century dictatorships.

Besides, Christianity has its fair share of atrocities to account for, such as the Massacre at Ayyadieh during the Third Crusade

Quote

On the 16th of August Richard [I of England] ordered that all the prisoners from Acre should be taken to a small hill called Ayyadieh. There in full view of the Muslim army and Saladin’s own field headquarters, around 3000 soldiers, men, women, and children from the city (according to Muslim sources) were put to the sword [2].

And let’s not forget the Great Flood in which God slaughtered almost all human life on Earth (along with countless other animals). He seemed to have no moral qualms about killing on that scale. I wonder how many infants, babies and unborn in the womb were among the dead?

I expect BS77 will issue a succinct and cogent response. Either that, or 28,000 words of cut and paste gibberish that no one will read. One of the two.

Joke's the other reason I want them to do an upvote downvote system over there. Batshit would get mostly downvotes, ET would only get downvotes. except for the one upvote he would give himself, because he's the kind of person who would do that.  :p

Exactly, it will be somewhere between 400 and 1600 words that can be boiled down to the Nixon Apologetic ...

TBH though, rather than ye olde flood and other whatnots, my favorites are when humans act on the deity's behalf (when isn't that the case, really) and commit the slaughter themselves. And when that's over you get the shrug and retroactive Nuremburg defense of "just following orders" and told take it up with said deity.

My favorite of these is William Craig's ...

I find it absolutely incredible – and I mean, ‘literally’ incredible – that there has been all this hoo-haa about dating the Shroud of Turin, when the image on it is a photogrpahic negative ! I mean who would have thought in the days before photography of even TRYING to imagine what a photographic negative, i.e. reversing light and shade on ANY IMAGE, never mind a shroud, would look like?! In a month of Sundays. The way negatives look now, as well as that on the Shroud, surprise me no end. A fault of my imagination, I know, but still and all…. Yet the highest levels of education are evidently no proof against such common, everyday madness. The banality of idiocy makes a nice bookend with the banality of evil, doesn’t it ?

Stick insects’ “remarkable camouflage” postdates mammals and birds

Of course, they don’t come right out and say this but if the stick insects’ amazing camouflages developed after they started to be eaten by predatory mammals and birds, there was not as much time as was thought for the Darwinian claims.

Let me get this straight. Stick insects developed camouflage from birds after birds developed? Yeah clearly evolution could never explain that conundrum.

Darwin required that the variation be that of chance. That is a happenstance occurrence due to some accident, error or mistake.

Do you have a reference for this? Since did not know about DNA and mutations, and since he did not rule out Lamarckian processes, which are decidedly not chance or happenstance, I suspect he never said what you claim he did.

Read the book, Ed. Count how many times the word “chance” appears in “On the Origins of Species…”, and note the context.

The word “chance” appears 61 times, none of them suggesting that the variation that selection acts on is the result of chance or happenstance. “Happenstance” is not mentioned once. You obviously do not have a reference where Darwin says that the variation that selection acts on is the result of chance or happenstance.

In “What Evolution Is”, Ernst Mayr wrote:

I don’t know if anything EG is saying is true, but this may trigger another Frequency = Wavelength style meltdown.
