1/4 cup creatine

1/4 cup metamucil

Sounds like a fad diet something or other.

I think unless you have food allergies or some specific medical problem that just eating fresh veggies, fruits, meat and high protein plant foods like beans and lentils is quite sufficient.

It's pretty much how I was raised, and my parents both lived to 97. In fact I have a lot of close relatives -- aunts, uncles cousins -- and all the dead ones lived to their 90s. I lost eighty pounds without eating anything that was specially prepared as diet food. I eat butter, sour cream and even split fast food meals with my wife.

Weight Watchers is excellent for assigning points for various foods. Its the type and quantity that counts.

Fat and protein provide long lasting feeling of satisfaction. Sugar and starch seem to cause cravings. that's pretty much my rule. I don't avoid them entirely, but I treat them as dangerous objects.

Taking into account individual metabolisms, too. SWMBO and I are sort of like Jack Spratt and his wife. We pretty much have the same mainstream euro-canadian diet, but I've been <155 since high school (Grad '78, woo hoo!), and she's twice the girl she was. Bless her. :-)

Had the chance to hear Eric Meikle speak tonight at the local university.  I enjoyed his graphic showing how antievolution isn't just a southern problem.  The response from the audience to cdesignpropentsists was nice.  Sadly, he ran long and there wasn't time for Q&A, but I did get a chance to chat a bit (SWMBO was the prof who brought him to speak), and he was very pleasant.

stevestory,

Rooibos is fairly high in polyphenols and relatively low in oxalate.  I don't mind its flavor but it is not everyone's cup of tea.  It is a bit woody in flavor (which one would suspect...) and even though I normally drink my tea unadulterated, I often add a touch of cream (tiny, tiny bit) to rooibos.

eta: can make a great cocktail with scotch whisky as well!...

Nothing to confirm this on BBC, Guardian, Boston Globe or Reuters.  Daily Fail is hardly a reliable source.

Oh, I agree, MWT.  I didn't say it was or wasn't two people, one a Saudi.  But the Daily Mail, for fuck's sake... if they said it was going to get lighter when the sun came up tomorrow, I'd want verification.

After much consideration about finding a new career, I believe my:

a) physics background
b) willingness to travel
c) extreme willingness to get somewhere west of texas and forever out of the morbid obesity zone)

combined with the certitude of medium & long-term energy cost increases, mean there has to be a growing set of industries and opportunities related to increasing the energy usage efficiency of corporations, governments, small businesses, and consumers.

Problem is, it's kinda like the corrugated cardboard industry--you know there's gotta be suppliers, designers, manufacturers, etc, but you don't know offhand who the companies are, where they are, what jobs there are, who to contact, etc.

Anybody know anything about this sector? Or have any advice? Or know a guy who knows a guy?

I find this offensive:

http://www.salon.com/2013....merican

I'm 68 years old and have seen all kinds of assassinations and bombings by people of every political stripe. My college Poetry instructor bombed an ROTC building and was hunted for 20 years before being turned in by the people who were hiding him. ( He didn't talk politics in class, and I didn't find out about this until they caught him.)

My impression is that violent and nutty people are attracted to extreme politics, and the brand is a matter of chance. That includes my poetry teacher, who was an asshole and barely made it through his first year without being fired.

None of this is particularly new. I just finished a 1938 detective story which featured a guy who murdered three people to avoid being sent to a mental hospital. Somehow that seems vaguely familiar.

Set yourself up as a consultant.  Start a blog on that subject, then start talking with small businesses (Chamber of Commerce meetings and talks would be a good place to start).  Get a rep, then start consulting with the big dogs.

A lot of the larger corporations have a group dedicated to this (my company does), but small to midsized companies might need some help.  And someone to help them find all the tax breaks and capital loans to do stuff.

I read somewhere recently that if every office building in the world switched to LED-based bulbs, the global energy use would drop about 7%.  I think it was the GE article about their new tube LEDs (basically just replaces a standard T-5).
