If I had the inclination to waste photons over there, I'd ask what they make of my friend with CAIS, Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. She* had testes where her ovaries were supposed to be, a vagina but no uterus. Is she a boy or a girl?

That kind of complexity wouldn't map cleanly to their intuitions and preconceptions. That would put very unwelcome pressure on their attempt to ground all morality in those intuitions. So I think they'd want to simplify the situation by defining her as whatever gender she most closely resembles. If she couldn't be easily pigeonholed as female, they'd want to shrink and limit the exception as much as possible.
