This last month or so, I've been noticing that sometimes I'm unable to access this board for up to several hours at a time.   Today, this site has been unavailable through plain webbrowsing for about 4 hours.  I'm trying to get to the bottom of it.

The sharpest marbles among you are probably asking, "If you can't access this board then how the heck are you posting?"  Good question.  The answer is: www.guardster.com.  Out of desperation I tried the proxy, thinking that maybe my IP range is blocked, or that comcast cable is glitching.

Clearly, this board is still up.  Is anyone aware of how to diagnose this?  Is it something at comcast?  Something at antievolution.org?  Elsewhere?

yeah, i've noticed some extreme difficulty today accessing ATBC; it's acting kinda like it's under a DOS attack.

I wonder if Davey over at UD is up to something not kosher?

It would be just like him to pull a DOS attack to try and show us all how "smart" he is.

phht.

more likely it's just some database issue.

two tabs in firefox
directly browsing won't work
but the proxy will

--------------------

tracert http://www.antievolution.org
Unable to resolve target system name.

ping http://www.antievolution.org
Ping request could not find host.

And yet here I am posting and browsing the site easy as pie, through the online proxy browser.  If it was a denial of service attack or a database situation, I'd think I wouldn't be able to access the site at all.

Okay, this is spooky.

dnstuff . com has this to say when I do a DNS lookup.

-------------

How I am searching:
Searching for antievolution.org AAAA record at i.root-servers.net [192.36.148.17]: Got referral to TLD6.ULTRADNS.CO.UK. [took 9 ms]
Searching for antievolution.org AAAA record at TLD6.ULTRADNS.CO.UK. [198.133.199.11]: Got referral to a.ns.joker.com. [took 5 ms]
Searching for antievolution.org AAAA record at a.ns.joker.com. [194.176.0.2]: Timed out.  Trying again.
Searching for antievolution.org AAAA record at c.ns.joker.com. [207.44.185.10]: Timed out.  Trying again.
Searching for antievolution.org AAAA record at c.ns.joker.com. [207.44.185.10]: Timed out.  Trying again.
Searching for antievolution.org AAAA record at c.ns.joker.com. [207.44.185.10]: Timed out.  Trying again.
Searching for antievolution.org AAAA record at b.ns.joker.com. [159.25.97.69]: Timed out.  Trying again.
Searching for antievolution.org AAAA record at b.ns.joker.com. [159.25.97.69]: Timed out.  Trying again.

There is no need to refresh the page -- to see the DNS traversal, to make sure that all DNS servers are reporting
the same results, you can Click Here.

Note that these results are obtained in real-time, meaning that these are not cached results.
These results are what DNS resolvers all over the world will see right now (unless they have cached information).

---------------------------

The bold is my addition.  I notice that the problems begin at joker.com.    Why would everyone in the world would be having this same difficulty at joker.com--and yet here I am posting and browsing through the proxy.

There are many mysterious things about the intarwebs.

Well, its working now, after approx 12 hours.  I see also that the "current users" list is filling up.  So it wasn't just me?

I have been having problems for the last few days. I get to here through PT and that has had a lot of down-time recently (afaik).

I've been having similar problems. AtBC was unavailable for almost a day until just now. PT has been unavailable too from time to time. Last night I checked "The Austringer" and couldn't get that either. No other sites that I normally log on to were affected. It was the same if I used Mozilla or IE. Very odd.

All those domains use the joker.com DNS servers for primary and secondary DNS entries, and apparently the joker.com DNS servers were mostly unavailable for a while.

Well, when this page appears to be down and if you guys need your fix, you can try that guardster. com proxy.  Through it, I was able to get to antievolution. org.  I'm not sure how or why the proxy has access where the rest of the planet seemingly does not.

Maybe William Gibson was on to something when he predicted ghosts in the machine.  What would Legba think of evolution?

I just noticed this on Slashdot:

DDoS on Domain Registrar

Quote
Netcraft is reporting that 'domain registrar Joker.com says its nameservers have been hit with a massive DDoS attack, causing outages for customers.

There's no indication of the motive. I'll have to make a note of the IP address for next time ...
