Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Primarily because a nicer guy wouldn't do the things Dennis has done.

Montreal Police Spammed Into Submission

For years, scientists across Canada and the United States – as well as assorted reporters, public figures, atheists, skeptics and magicians – had been peppered with abusive messages and even death threats from a truculent cyber-crank tapping away in Montreal.

Using pseudonyms such as Divine Justice and David Mabus, the self-appointed Internet evangelist allegedly created hundreds of email and Twitter accounts to pester, harangue and silence scientists around the world whose research and ideas conflict with his own peculiar, rambling, world view.

Within the scientific community, the common thesis was that Mabus must be, um, unwell. Or, as one blogger put it nearly two years ago, “a blithering, unhinged religious idiot (who) uses sockpuppets to spam us with his insanity.”

Markuze has opened more accounts since this hit the media and is suddenly apologizing for the death threats. He knows what he is doing, knows that it is wrong, and is back-peddling as hard as he can to avoid punishment.

Mabus: We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little atheists. Wicked, tricksy, false!
Markuze: No. Not master!

Markuze: Master is our friend!
Mabus: You don't have any friends; nobody likes you!
Markuze: I'm not listening... I'm not listening...
Mabus: You're a liar and a thief.
Markuze: No!
Mabus: *Murderer*.
Markuze: Go away!
Mabus: "Go away?"
[Mabus laughs as Markuze begins crying]
Markuze: I hate you, I hate you.
Mabus: Where would you be without me, gollum, gollum? I saved us! It was me! We survived because of me!
Markuze: [stops crying] Not anymore.
Mabus: What did you say?
Markuze: Master looks after us now. We don't need you anymore.
Mabus: What?
Markuze: Leave now, and never come back!
Mabus: No!
Markuze: Leave now, and never come back!
[Mabus screams in frustration]
Markuze: LEAVE! NOW! AND NEVER COME BACK!
[Mabus is silent]
Markuze: [looks around] We told him to go away... and away he goes, Precious! Gone, gone, gone! Markuze is free!

If it is Markuze, he may actually be making things worse for himself.  It's going to be much harder to claim insanity if he starts apologising when cornered.

On the other hand, I doubt he's going to get twenty years' hard labour for making unconsummated threats, and this might save him from a long holiday at the funny farm.

Aw, Thanks for the POTW... but get ready to go POTW Crazy, because I just re-read the rest of that post of March 2009, and we have some Absolutley Dyn-o-mite, Pulitzer Award Winning Posters on this board - so give it UP Y'all for:

Bob O
Between the Denyse, And the spasm
Between the complex, And the specification
Between the ID, And the dissent
Falls the Sweater
For Thine is the Kingdom

For Thine is, Tard is, For Thine is the

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a meltdown

Lou FCD – With a nod to the Bard:

Shall I disdain thee while I kneel to pray?
Thou art more TARDy and ridiculate:
Rough winds do carry the scent of decay,
A rotten stench wafts from thy mouth to date;
Always fork'd the tongue of UD shines,
And ever is its intelligence dimm'd;
And every lie from lie at last declines,
By Joe or Densley's hairy clam untrimm'd;
But thy eternal stupid shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that lie thou tell'st;
Nor shall Dave brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal night to time thou yell'st:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

More Lou FCD:

Here I sit, broken hearted.
Tried to think but only farted.

Tried some peer-review, didn't make it.
We'll start a "journal", we can fake it!

Fill it with our I. D. Sciences,
By the guy who fixed appliances!

Spread the gospel, hide our God Intelligent Designer,
Search/replace, opaque facade it can't be finer!

All you school boards, come assist!
Cdesign proponentsists!

Evo's evil! Mater'lists!
Help us save the blastocysts!

Eff the kids! Make them pray!
Don't let them learn, they might turn Gehy!

We have some lawyers! An Army, too!
But no biologists, they won't do!

Teach the 'versy, Buttercup,
There isn't one? Then make one up!

Gonzalez Expelled! We must lament!
Don't notice he's incompetent!

No money, no job? How fair is that?
It's just 'cause he's not evomat!

Adolf Hitler: Darwin's man,
Who can do it? Ben Stein can!

Racists! Democrats! Waged the Crusades!
(Give me more Jim Jones Kool-Aid!)

Tom Ames:
That poem, of course, starts:

"Let us go then, you and me
When the TARD is definitely flowing free
like a drunkard
vomiting into the toilet.

Let us scroll through certain long-deserted sites
the dubious delights
of D. O'Dreary whoring worthless thoughts
And MikeGene channeling ancient astronauts

Sites that follow like a tedious argument
of insidious intent
to lead you to the overwhelming question...

Oh do not ask what is it
Put on your tard-suit and go visit.

In the "labs" the fellows close the doors
and pontificate like stoned-out sophomores."

More Tom Ames:
I grow old, I grow old
I shall wear the arms of my sweater rolled.

BTW I forgot to apologize to Auden (another crazy man) for my previous little blat. In Yeats mode now:

Quote
The quarrel of the weasels in the eaves,
The full round moon-face and the promised lie,
And the loud song of the ever-slanging O'Learys,
Had hid away earth's Evo-lullaby.

And then Barry came with those red mournful quips,
And with D'OL came the whole of the 'Tute's fears,
And all the sorrows of her labouring snips,
And all the burden of UD's myriad peers.

And now the blog-mods warring like thieves,
The Friday meltdown, the tard resupply,
And the loud ripostes of the unquiet steves
Have awakened the earth's Evo-lullaby.

Stopping By TARDs On A Twitter Evening

Whose blog this is I think I know.
The IDiot is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his nose fill up with blow.
My little sock doth think them queer
To talk without cerebrum near
Between O'Dreary 'n Barry A
The DaveScot ban is getting near.
He gives his manly balls a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the bleat
Of Kairosfocus, who's a flake.
The TARD is lovely, dark and sweet.
But I have TARD here to repeat,
And miles to go before I tweet,
And miles to go before I tweet.

Much applause to all the poets!  And drinks all round.

Kristine:

Yeats – by Lou FCD:

Quote
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
  The simple cannot hear the simpleton;
  Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
  The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
  Are full of passionate verbosity.

  Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Rarus Progenies
  Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with sweatered body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and brainless as a stone,
Is moving its slow th^ighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the inde^cent descent loons.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of mindless sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a blind watchmaker,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Seattle to be stillborn?

Yeats – by Amadan:

Not to be out-Yeatsed:

That is no forum for sane men. The tard
In one another’s thrall, berks  with their muse
– Those lying generations – as if jarred,
The church-bell calls, the meekly-crowded pews,
Dolt, Dim and Dave, commend in terms most hard
Whatever is proposed, proved wrong, reused.
Caught in that brain-dead drooling all neglect
The simplest use of basic intellect.

Creationist Man is a pathetic thing,
To tattered stories grimly stuck, unless
Soul grab its mouse and click, and harder click
On every link on the Internet,
Nor is there Google-school but studying
Textbooks of their own magnificence
And therefore I have surfed the Web and come
To the holy forum of AtBCium

I just remembered that the mother of the religious nutcase that I had a relationship with also denied 1) that her son was stalking me, and 2) that her other son was stalking me, even though both of them were contacting me and showing up at places where they knew I would be!

"Oh noes, he couldn't do that, he's married!"
Yeah, I know he's married, you cow - he called me up to tell me.

Geez. Amazing, isn't it? And naturally, the marriage didn't end well. I almost sent him a postcard from NASM to prison, but I didn't want to be seen as encouraging him. (He's now out.)

These things take time, but eventually dicks like Markuze get theirs. But is there anyone stupider on the planet than an enabling mother?

I just remembered that the mother of the religious nutcase that I had a relationship with also denied 1) that her son was stalking me, and 2) that her other son was stalking me, even though both of them were contacting me and showing up at places where they knew I would be!

"Oh noes, he couldn't do that, he's married!"

I just read your blogpost. That's eerily creepy, in many disturbing ways.

I sure am glad this mess is over for you!

ETA: maybe, if you haven't done so, you could share your experience with Abbie, who, by the way, just gave that Great lecture on HIV-1, vaccines and retroviruses (not tedious at all, highly enjoyable)...

Well, I'm sick of the whole story, really. There comes a time when you actually forget about it (until another piece of work acts out this cookie-cutter irration play).

When I was a child, I was a blondie. I have no evidence but I think little white blondes are the girls most preyed upon. I would see men sitting outside my house in their vehicles, I kid you not, motioning to me to come outside. I received prank phone calls and everything. Once some old fart pulled up beside me and opened his car door without a word - no fucking candy or anything! I mean, I was mostly insulted! I kicked his door shut, and he took off like a V-2 rocket. I developed an acid tongue, an energetic middle finger, and an aversion to rural small towns.

You want to read a horror story, look up what happened to photographer Lee Miller when she was nine. Now there's a woman who would have made the elevator skip a few floors.

For those interested, Lyn Pratchett posted an abstract of Sir Pterry's next offering, Snuff (release dat October 13th 2011).

It still has a few typos that may or may not be corrected, but it features Vimes prominently, which is always a good thing.

Enjoy!

Expelled! Fall from Grace: a Professor's Depature Raises Questions about Freedom at Calvin College.
Quote
The professors were not disavowing the role of God or of their church, but were arguing that modern science challenges traditional, literal readings of the Book of Genesis in ways that may require theological shifts.

Nonetheless, the reaction from readers of The Banner, as expressed in many (but not all) comments on the website, was clear: no deviation from Genesis as literal truth could be tolerated. "To protect the church and college from false teachers and contrary orthodox beliefs it would be right to let these guys go," said one comment. "Clearly, professors who deny the scriptures as interpreted by our creeds and who have broken the promise they made when they signed the Form of Subscription should be fired," said another.

One recent post says: "Why is it that so many Christians and academics in Christian colleges seem more concerned about keeping in step with what the world teaches than they are about what God's Word teaches? Are we ashamed of God's Word in the face of the beliefs of our worldly peers?"

Such comments weren't just posted on The Banner website, but were also sent to college officials, where the two professors were investigated. One -- John Schneider -- has now left the tenured position he held for 25 years, as part of an agreement with the college. The other religion professor, Daniel Harlow, remains at the college, and is refusing to back down from his views.

ETA - No Christianity Please, We're Academics. Read Jerry Pattengale's comment especially.

I love Inside Higher Ed. I wish that I had known about this publication earlier. This is the discussion that Expelled did not want to have. It is an important discussion. I did confront a college professor who made remarks about another student's writing who was professing a paranormal/religious belief about the ethics of grading someone in a creative writing class on the basis of the professor's disavowal of that student's beliefs!

Looks like I'm actually going get to go to Oktoberfest in Munich this year! Anyone in the vicinity who would like to share a liter (or more) let me know. I'm attending with a buddy of mine who's work has a table in the Hippodrom, so it should be a good time. Hopefully I won't end up drunk in a gutter outside Munich somewhere...

Mmmhhh...

I have to check with the missus regarding her availabilities (wouldn't dream of binge drinking without her), but there might be a possibility. Now, I have to remember who I know and can squat in Munich...

Cool! I'll post the dates I'm planning on being there when I finalize my itinerary, but right now it's looking like Sept 24th -28th or something like that.

Ok. I have to check with my father. He has a convention somewhere in september, but I don't have the dates. When he leaves, I have to granny-sit his mother. If it is within my and Ali's availabilities, we can set something up.

Isn't it cool that oktober fest is in september? :p

That's because, if you do it right, you sober up in October.
