Quote (Learned Hand @ Jan. 29 2015,12:25) | My latest and last little exchange at UD got me thinking about the nature of these arguments, and encouraged me to finally blog a piece of my ever-in-progress book:

Thanks. Lots to think about, even if I have a suspicion a lot of accounts on AtBC aren't real people (k.e. is definitely a bot, for example)
One little detail jumped out at me when you wrote this: Quote | In a lot of ways, it was one specific exchange that spurred me to write this. The host at Uncommon Descent, after a few days of sparring on various subjects, told me that he thought I must “believe that only someone with a character flaw can possibly disagree with him.” |
Barry's opinion of those who disagree with him jars a bit with his "Not Unbroken" post where he acknowledges that he's not perfect (one might even say he's acknowledging he has a character flaw). I think it's this lack of introspection that makes Barry so frustrating - if he were prepared to acknowledge he might be wrong I think he would be a really interesting person to talk to.
