Here’s an interview with a non-materialist neuroscientist, Jeffrey Schwartz, who is friendly to ID covers what’s wrong with materialism in neuroscience, and introduces a non-materialist approach to the treatment of phobias, compulsions, and addictions, as used in his new book, You arenot your brain.:

For the past six years, Schwartz has worked with psychiatrist Rebecca Gladding to refine a program that successfully explains how the brain works and why we often feel besieged by bad brain wiring. Just like with the compulsions of OCD patients, they discovered that bad habits, social anxieties, self-deprecating thoughts, and compulsive overindulgence are all rooted in overactive brain circuits.

And these circuits are NOT in the brain?  Is this some new definition of nonmaterialist and brain that I am unaware of?

*eyeroll* Oh, please, Denyse, learn to effing read the entire blurb (the whole book first would be nice, but that would require you growing a new brain) before posting about it! Neuroplasticity is not a new form of ectoplasm. Effing please! This author splits "brain" from "mind" only in the sense that the mind of one who suffers from OCD (and I know what I'm talking about) has irrational and unbidden thoughts that intrude (from the brain), whereas the conscious mind can make choices and actually break these habits.

That has nothing to do with your choices not also being in your brain. This is another case of a silly naif getting caught up by a superficial reading of metaphorical language ("evolved to do this," etc.).

Yes, those carbon atoms, they literally want to hook up with those water molecules, as my high school chemistry teacher used to say. Stupid Denyse!
