Lots of species exhibit attachment. What's interesting in humans is the variation. There are naturally monogamous people. And some not. Some in between.
Same applies to devotion to children. |
We aren't, strictly speaking, a "pair-bonding" species. If we were, there'd be no infidelity, no prostitution, no divorce. Once pair-bonding species mate, they just don't respond sexually to any other individuals. We do. Some more than others.

I think the best word to come out of the latest studies (and maybe older ones, not sure) was "serial monogamy". It best fits the data we have.
