Indeed, because there's no known natural mechanism that could lead to gene duplication. And of course, mutations that inhibit protein expression do not occur naturally - oh, wait... But it must be a miracle that the miRNA binding sites are not mutated! I mean, how else can it be explained that in a gene nearly 4000 bp long (PTENP1, the pseudogene analysed in the article) miRNA binding sites of approx. 20 nucleotide length are spared? |
