BTW Louis, I am significantly older than that wine. If it was as old as me, it wouldn't likely be drinkable :D |
Jeeez, you try and pay someone a compliment and what d'ya get? Bloody correction and pedantry. Well I won't stand for it, you hear! ----snip---- P.S. Indeed you are significantly older than the wine, and indeed you are right it wouldn't be drinkable if this were not the case, but this bottle of calvados I have my eye on for the next bet I make........ |
Pedantry, indeed! I just didn't want anyone to think that I sprang for a 1949 d'Yquem or some such extravagance to pay off my bet. People already think that professors are overpaid...
But since FtK is still AWOL, I'll stay off-topic for a bit (until we get moved to the BW). I actually have tasted a wine made well before I was born, a Port from 1899. I was in a tasting group that included a wealthy MD, and he scored a case of this stuff from some estate auction in the UK. He brought a bottle to our tasting group, and it was pretty good. Very pale amber, not at all port-colored, but it still tasted like a port!
Sometimes it pays to have wealthy acquaintances; I'm sure I could never afford what he paid for a bottle, much less for a case...
