I would like some comments on this (which is found here http://thehumanist.com/news....7355845

I have looked at thousands of DNA sequencing chromatograms. I did not see evolution. What I saw were strings of nucleotide print outs representing the DNA chemistry of the organisms that were being sequenced. I have worked in paleontology labs. What I saw were bones. I have conducted systematic analysis using character matrices. What I observed were phylogenetic trees. I did not observe evolution. I have observed organisms in the wild and in farms breeding. I did not observe evolution, because that would mean that I would have to observe populations and individuals in those populations dying and differential survival of individuals over time. I have observed bacteria in petri-dishes in a lab and I have applied tetracycline to individuals that I had introduced a gene into to make them resistant. They survived, but I did not see evolution. Evolution is a process that is founded on the principles of natural selection, neutral evolution and is a process that occurs through the differential survival of individuals in populations. One does not observe evolution - we observe facts and use the theory of evolution to explain these. |
