Borregard and Rahbek 2010 QRB list 13 different hypotheses on the relationship between distribution and abundance.
when "Bob" says things like these italicized bits....
Quote | The assumptions are what bothers me. Assumptions should not be part of the scientific method. If Mr. Sagarin and his co-authors are correct, or even partly correct, there are some serious misconceptions in the studies they reviewed and any other studies that rely on those studies. Once an assumption is put in place, it snowballs into a big misconception that gets harder and harder to correct. It makes it easy to question or doubt an hypothesis or theory.
If the proper scientific methods had been used in the first place, there wouldn't be anything to overturn. The studies that were reviewed are still out there and are still contributing to erroneous assumptions. It isn't as though all the studies and hypotheses or theories have been pulled from circulation and everything has been thoroughly corrected. Poor scientific methods are like a virus. It's a lot easier and more effective to prevent the problem than it is to try to cure it after it has spread. |
kindly makes you wonder what it assumes aint it.
