Quote (Daniel Smith @ Nov. 08 2008,14:12)
My contention is that man cannot explain the origin of complex living systems via natural pathways because such pathways are impossible.  It never happened that way and it could not happen that way.  I believe The Big Head built life (defined as "a self-replicating cellular organism") using the same basic mechanism man uses to build things; He took raw materials from the earth and organized them for function.  Man does this on a macro scale all the time.  The Big Head did it on a nano scale.  Man makes crude (by comparison) machines that don't self-replicate, The Big Head made complex organisms that do.  Man's machines don't evolve (much) and adapt to their environments, The Big Head's do.  This is a result of the fact that The Big Head is an intelligence of the highest order and man is not.

You want me to tell you then what science can explain under my scenario.  Well, I'd say that science can essentially discover God through the examination of His creation.  It's an opportunity to unravel the greatest mystery of the universe - "What is God?".

All of which, broadly, refers to the origin of life, and indicates that my earlier focus upon that element of your argument was well placed. To wit:

Daniel seems to be laboring under the misapprehension that if the answer to an important question vis the origins of self-replicating cellular organisms (and the sprawling conceptual and empirical network known as evolutionary theory) is "we don't know," then he has delivered a fatal blow to all work in that area.

I think we all understand that how we get to a replicating system upon which natural selection can operate is one of the great unsolved scientific problems of our time. It may remain unsolved for a very long time. If there is a solution, it is likely to be speculative because the events and the environments within which those events occurred obtained billions of years in the past and may be unknowable. There may never be a solution.

Daniel has latched onto this and posed the questions he poses as a rhetorical strategy, not because he wants to know something. He's sunk his teeth into it and isn't going to let go. This is premised upon the above misapprehension.
