So what's Dembski going to do?  If he tries to keep up the "this is science" story, he's going to risk alienating a big chunk of his base.  If he doesn't, he's going to make life more difficult for the DI, just at the point when they're making a new push to get ID into science classes.

The author of Mere Creation is not in a very good position to expel creationists. Bill is on record saying 6000 is just as valid a number as 4.5 billion when it comes to dating the earth.

Let’s see if I have this straight.

If you believe without doubt there’s an immaterial ghost or spirit of some sort in humans that’s perfectly rational.

But if you even suspect there’s a ghost or spirit of some sort in non-human living things you’re some kind of nutcase.

Okay. This appears to be yet another example of people who live in glass houses throwing stones.

Looks like the real DT is back on UD this morning - here's a classic lesson in logic delivered by the old Dave.
Quote
StephenB

Did someone put us here or did it just happen?

For me the operative word is “happen”.

If I became aware of myself as a conscious observer/participant in the universe one time then that proves it’s possible. What can happen once can and probably will happen again.

Thus I really tend to discount the atheist belief that consciousness is an accident, a one-time event, and when you check out, take the old dirt nap, you’re gone forever. That’s an irrational conclusion. The rational conclusion is that what happens once will, given enough time and opportunity, happen again.

Did he just say "I tard, therefore I am"?

Whoa! Dave throws a haymaker and hits multiple targets.

Quote
As the prior article here talks about some moonbats in the Swiss government have concocted a set of rights for living things that even includes plants’ rights.

This appears to be relevant to some other hot-button topics here in recent days.

First of all it occurs to me that for the holocaust to happen it was a necessary factor for plants to have their right to life stripped from them. It’s really the first step down a slippery slope that ends with people having the right to life stripped from them. David Berlinski take note. We don’t want to overlook this in the future when we round up the usual suspects for holocaust scapegoating.

The second thing that comes to mind is that this appears to be natural law - even plants have a right to a life unmolested by human bullies thugs. It appears universal and transcendent. I think the Swiss did what C.S. Lewis only tried to do - found the one true universal transcendent moral law. The mother of all moral laws, so to speak.

Let's see if we can unpack this. He continues to needle Denyse, further makes fun of  everyone who buys into Darwin being necessary for the Holocaust, and connects again with BarryA's chin over his "we can has transcendent moral cheezburger" nonsense. Have I missed anything?

Agreed.  There's always been tension within the ID big tent, but Dembski's managed to hold everything together up until now.  Since Expelled, though, the cracks have been multiplying and widening.  I've never seen so much open, unpunished squabbling among the UD inmates as there's been over the last week or so.  At some point, Dr Dr D may need to show one side the door.  Given that, for almost all UDers except Dave, this is a religious movement, and that Dembski doesn't want to lose his base, I think the Floating Command Centre is heading for a sinking.

Springer might fit in with the Telic Thoughts crew. One wonders whether Springer could sustain a blog striking off on his own, or whether he needs the support of a group blog to find material to comment upon. I think that he may simply have found it easier so far to ride along than to break trail, but he might do so if he gets the axe he's clearly asking for.

To be fair, if he goes so does UD's readership.

Not to say that he wouldn't, but he turned it down last time, and it was custom pre-built for him.

All he had to do was start writing.

Dave's in a bind. His ego is too big to spend time on any blog he can't control (so TT would be a problem), but he probably doesn't have enough focus or enough to say to keep his own blog afloat.

I suppose he can always get his own news show on Fox.

Okay, that does it. Erasmus broke into Dave's house using that big squirrel rifle of his, has him tied up in the basement, and is posting under his name. There's no other explanation.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Dave's started reading this thread and is now trying to put on a show for us?

No shame there. I for one have neither the time, energy, or inclination (nor indeed enough to say) to sustain a blog. So I appreciate AtBC for providing exactly that sort of ride.

I too think Dave is considering a break. He's been much less of a lickspittle of late. I think even he's had enough of the train wreck that is UD.

This is not quite as entertaining as a NASCAR race but definitely more fun than one of those Formula-1 pseudo-races. I can hardly believe that Dave has posted a FSM pic. It's time for a pool as to when crash and burn will occur--or is there already one up and running?

Well Dave reads here, so it'd have to be done elsewhere and behind closed doors so as not to influence the outcome unduly.

- There is a linked video on the first page about how the eye supposedly evolved. Is this a joke?

Is this some sort of reverse Poe's Law at work here?

Quote

- The site seems partly devoted to challenging ID. Keep in mind that Ben Stein is not claiming in the movie that ID is right. He is simply questioning the Darwinist tactic of not letting any other voice at the table. Challenging ID is certainly a legitimate activity in its own right, but it is only tangentially related to Stein’s larger point.

Right, because Ben "Science leads to killing people" Stein is the true objective paragon.  I propose instead that Ben merely has the appearance of Objective Paragonicity and is himself a joke, though not by design.

Rich,

Before this gets moved:

F1: girlie paddle shifters.
NASCAR: real shifters plus they still use carburetors! How cool is that?

F1: literally can go years without a pass for the lead on the track. To first order: starting grid = finish order.
NASCAR: typically ~20 passes for the lead every race. Often one ore more on the last lap.

I recon I could take a NASCAR round the track no worries. I'd have no chance in an F1 car:

Not only have I considered it, posted on it, but I have believed for some time that the frequency and manner of banninations at least are a bit of Dave's very own street theatre. Quite deliberate, quite amusing.

The best part is where he sneaks in all the tard he is clearly unaware of. It's a classic tard/street theatre/self-unaware combo that makes D'Tard compelling viewing for many.

Not so much for me, but I understand that some get a kick from UD and various UDenizens. There's a thread about it somewhere isn't there? I've been lead to understand it's quite popular.

I should look it up one of these days.
