Zachriel, when i go to UD i look for your comments. They're great. And casual readers of UD can easily see that KF, Mung, BatShit, etc aren't in the same league.

KF gives the impression that he thinks he's in the Justice League of America, even as far as wearing his underpants outside his trousers.

He even has a secret identity.

Years earlier, I too had given up better-paying, less controversial opportunities in Canada in order to cover the growing ID story.

Are you?

Will you give up the "science desk" at an unnamed, but probably religeous on-line magazine to fight for Jesus?  Or are you going to believe in "facts" and "evidence" and "logic" right up until you get crushed by an out of control semi as its God-loving driver is raptured up into Heaven while you wake up in Hell?

Do you know what the Devil will say to you?  He'll say, "Merry Christmas, atheist scum!"

Good bye Tiger131. You lasted longer than many of us.

This is the full text of what Barry wrote:

Quote
Tiger131 quotes me as saying:

“the existence of design as a category of causation is no obstacle to accepting the truth of monist physicalism.”

I actually said:

“If such a natural telic force exists, the existence of design as a category of causation is no obstacle to accepting the truth of monist physicalism.”

Attributing false quotes to me gets you a first class one way ticket out of here. Bye bye.

If you're going to accuse someone of lying, it's usually not a good idea to admit that they told the truth (albeit an incomplete one) at the same time.

Tiger131 even provided a link to the source so that the quote could be seen in context. He might have used ellipses, but blogs are rather informal venues. Barry Arrington could have simply reiterated his qualification for clarity.

Furthermore, the quote accurately depicts Barry Arrington's view. Per Barry Arrington “the existence of design as a category of causation is no obstacle to accepting the truth of monist physicalism" though that acceptance entails that one also accepts the possibility of "a natural telic force".

Didn't he creatively omit select portions of someone's quotes a while back, then use the partial quotation as an excuse for having a hysterical freakout? I believe he then had another meltdown over people pointing out the out-of-context quote he used. Something about whether he'd read or accurately quoted Orgel.

Poor Barry. No one appreciates the burden he bears, constantly realigning all these objective moral rules to make sure he's always right and the people he hates are always wrong, even if they do the same thing.

Pauly boy, look, I didn’t mention religion or design until you butted into the conversation. Check the tape. Even after your first comment @19 (in which you mention “design,” “god,” etc. a whole bunch of times) I still try to avoid the religion subject @20. It wasn’t until you pushed the further that I began to entertain the subject.
If you want to believe aliens, or some “imperfect god,” or whatever “designed” us, then be my guest. You can claim that ID isn’t religion, I don’t care because ID is a joke. You can believe whatever you want here at UD because it has nothing to do with what goes on in the real world, especially in the world of science. I’m here to chit-chat about science and have a good laugh in the process.
And I’ve spent a good amount of time studying and doing science, and believe it or not I have not encountered a single thing that even remotely resembles anything that has to do with religion. Feel free to educate me though.

Yes, it needs to be read for context, but I can't see any insult; Barry appears to be using the standard UD definition, insult = disagree with, or even offer an opinion that I don't fully agree with.

Speaking of which, it's bed time so I can be up early with mine. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, and a really swell day tomorrow to everyone else!

Ahhhh.  Another Christmas almost over and I got through it without strangling any kids or relatives.

Best Christmas line heard was from my sister to her husband:  "How can you believe in God, but not believe in Santa?

Next stop: Happy New Year!

Mung: If it’s such a simple thing to evolve new protein folds, why are there not more of them?

If there were twice as many as we see today you could still ask that question...

ID: proteins can't evolve, its too difficult
Science: Yes they can, look ... Its difficult but not impossible
ID: if what you are saying is true, and all the proteins we see today are a result of evolution they why aren't there more proteins.

ID: Evolution predicts the existence of large numbers of junk protiens, we should be swimming in them. The lack of large quantities of junk proteins is evidence for ID

I’ll point out that at last some of kf points are practically incomprehensible:
Quote

3 –> You do not have to agree, just, recognise that there is in fact a documented universality across humanity in the tradition starting from that God has made the nations of one blood and has control of place time and peoplehood.

That is one mess of a sentence, I have no idea what it means, and it is irrelevant to my point. That’s why I, and I’m sure I speak for others, make no attempt to parse the stuff kf writes.

Not to mention that it is an incorrect statement...

Or more exactly, if you can say that about God, you can also say it about Oden, Zeus, Coyote, and any other deity that is still known about in modern times.

GE, you already have a source and you have far more than enough to make it clear that the major militant problem in Europe today is ISIS connected. (It is amazing that this direct implication given context seems to have been made into a pretext for a false accusation of lying; that speaks volumes — again.) It seems this thread has now outlived reasonableness. KF[Thread Closed]

It would be more appropriate to change “hoax” to “joke”. The journal is following a Christmas tradition in medical journals (the BMJ is the go-to journal for this). There’s an update at the end from the editor pointing out that it should be clear from the context, the name of the research group etc. that this was a joke.

And yes, it was intelligently designed.

I can see how Barry might have been misled here.  After all, the paper was written by the prestigious Study of Maternal and Child Kissing (SMACK) Working Group.

To be fair to Barry, I can see how he could be mislead: he's just repeating another article, and being rather anti-scientist, it's not too difficult to read the worst motives into what happened.

It's also certainly not the worst post he's put up today. Not by a long way.
