In this case, Dembski lived up to his "Isaac Newton of Information Theory" honorific. For he was able to compress all the ID-victimhood meme into his comment. What about the suppression of his research? Why, how can serious research proceed when a scientist is told to move his website to another server? Thank goodness Newton, Maxwell, or Einstein never had to host their websites on another machine—think of the consequences!

It's a good thing my son taught me how to spell pwned! 'Cause that's what just happened to Dr. Dr. D. here.

I actually prefer those who are anti ID as long as they are polite. If they are knowledgeable, it is a great way to learn something. People come here thinking it will be easy to put us in our place but no one has done it yet and those who are hostile usually don’t stay long because they get frustrated having to justify their comments when they cannot provide any relevant data or arguments.

Yeah, sometimes they just disappear and take their comments with them.

Darwinist Negative-Review Spam Campaign Backfires at Amazon
GilDodgen

Last week, The Design of Life: Discovering Signs of Intelligence In Biological Systems was in the 17,000-20,000 range at Amazon.com. Since the Darwinist-sponsored negative-review spam campaign (with “reviews” written mostly by people who obviously had not read the book), and as of this writing, the book is sitting at about 3,000, and is:

#1 in Books > Professional & Technical > Professional Science > Biological Sciences > Biology > Developmental Biology
#1 in Books > Science > Biological Sciences > Biology > Developmental Biology

Wow, they LIED to me. Correlation IS cause and effect.

Last week, 'Design' was 'out of stock' and no one could order it.  When it says 'out of stock' again, 90 copies have been sold (I think its 90, vague memory of a comment someone wrote somewhere).

90 was the number reported by FTE in their online letter as being ordered by Amazon recently.

Meanwhile, without the benefit of having O'Dreary Luskin, Dave Scot, Larry Farfromsane, and Dr. Dr. D. stuff the ballot boxes, Jean-Baptiste de Panafieu and Patrick Gries' gorgeous black-and-white picture book entitled Evolution sits comfortably at #1723 on the Amazon list. I examined this tome at a bookstore recently, but didn't buy it (hoping that Santa will bring it instead). It is simply stunning; I don't recall if it has images of whale skeletons in it or not. If so, perhaps we can recommend it for DaveTard...

Anyhoo, if a book like this can sell better than Dembski and Wells, despite all the gaming and shenanigans used to pump up those sales, it's a pretty good thing.

Merry Christmas, WAD. And Better Luck Next Time.

Amazon sales ranks can fluctuate wildly from hour to hour, much less day to day or week to week. Honestly, I think it's mostly unprincipled evilutionists buying copies for their own amusement with no thought to the wider consequences (such as inadvertently encouraging Dr. Dr. Billy). Pharyngula linking to it probably caused a rush of interest from the godless, who all bought their copies within two days of each other and spiked the ranking. I predict a swift taper in sales once that effect wears off.

If you wicked materialists must buy Dembski's books, I strongly recommend buying used copies thru Amazon, since Bill gets no royalties that way.

I don't think Wild Bill really gives a crap, as it's all income, and that is the point.

I'd agree with Arden, buy the thing used if at all possible, except I can't imagine being able to get one that way any time soon.

Think about who's buying it...  The choir boys at UD would sell their Bibles first and the people buying it to shred or laugh will keep it to hold Billy Boy's feet to the fire in two years when he completely contradicts himself or for use in the next court case.  The only used copies that will be available any time soon are the ones received as Christmas gifts by people who are too embarrassed to use it as a door stop.  (They were only given as  misguided attempts to convert the godless heathren to Jesus anyway.)

Who else?

Fundy Christian Acadamy?  They ain't gonna sell 'em.

Public School Boards?  Well, there might be some hope of getting a used copy from one of them, but not until after the court case.

Obvious gaming of reviews here, December 21, 2007
By David Springer
Except for mine there are no reviews that are not 5 star or 1 star. Everyone evidently thinks the book is pure genius or utter trash. How unlikely. Also note there is a veritable flood of 1 star reviews that were posted on 20 December, 2007. What's up with that? Did George W. Bush declare December 20th as a national "Read Dembski and Review It On Amazon Day" or something? Again, a blatant indication of Amazon ratings being gamed.

I'll say this much about the book itself - any book with such a high sales rank at Amazon (currently around 2,000) that causes this much polarization in the reviews must be worth reading just to see for yourself what's in it that's causing so much controversy.

Because I'm bored--and leaving aside for the moment the fact that popularity is not necessarily correlated with quality or accuracy--here is a very incomplete list of books that are currently out-selling The Design of Life at Amazon (in no particular order):

# 212: The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins (hardcover)

# 2,482: The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins

# 1,723: Evolution by Jean-Baptiste De Panafieu, Patrick Gries & Linda Asher

# 389: Biology by Neil A. Campbell & Jane B. Reece

# 678: The Selfish Gene, 30th Anniversary Edition by Richard Dawkins

# 2,617: Molecular Biology of the Cell by Bruce Alberts, Alexander Johnson, Julian Lewis, Martin Raff, Keith Roberts & Peter Walter
