Ewwwwwwwwww grannypoon!

Anyway, this does remind me of a cartoon I once saw which depicted the adventures of a businessman abroad on a conference. He had a gentleman's stroke periodical* open on his hotel bed when the maid came into clean the room. The maid was less than fulsomely attractive, and upon observing the magazine in question, and the pictures displayed therein, said to the businessman "You like no knickers? For $100 I take knickers off". To which the businessman replied "For $200 will you keep them on?"

Louis

* A Gentleman's Stroke Periodical is a publication which displays young ladies in varying states of undress in order to provide observers with mental imagery sufficient to inflict tumescence upon the gentleman's membrum viralis. The gentleman may then choose to relieve the tension thus caused by relaxing in a gentleman's way.

Hard to say. The paper Dembski is talking about is clearly anti-ID. On the other hand, fantomarks do sound a little bit like Dembski's zero wavelength thingy and I can see how he would be attracted by the idea because it kind of sounds like it might be a mechanism for the designer to impart information into the natural world...

Well, I read the paper and me pattern detectors were a-detecting. Me eyes raced across the screen extracting physical signals, differences, streaks, streaks of streaks, phantom marks, and fantomarks. Me LGN and V1 were in dialectical union and I do believe for a moment the structure of RB's cognition mirrored the deeply distributive, dissipative, cooperative, emergent and intelligent structure of the universe at the quantum level. A Bohmian pilot wave bore forth this ubermark:

Cognition entails abstraction. Since abstraction is non-physical we can communicate across astronomical distances without resort to physical signals simply by propagating abstractions!

I'm gonna lick that toad again.

Eta: WAD, you are fucking loosing it.

Amadn staggers buck naked into corridor and falls back against door, slamming it shut. Exhausted, he slides to the floor revealing a plaque on the door reading POTW. A smear of what appears to be baby oil and peanut butter traces the arc of his collapse. Behind the door can be heard the muffled giggling of what sounds like a troupe of highly pneumatic cheerleaders* calling him back.

Through waves of exquisite exhaustion, and despite his face being fixed in a grin that death itself could not hope to erase, he mutters, barely audibly, "Thanks for the extra hour, lads".

Eta: WAD, you are fucking loosing it.

On the one hand the paper says:

Quote
The picture emerging here is that intelligence is distributed at all scales across vast, interlocking networks throughout the universe, and that there is no particular explanatory advantage to be gained in localizing intelligence in a single agency, such as a "designer" or a deity.

So I don't think DaveScot, and some of the others who are skeptical, is risking much. On the other hand, I can see how the concept of fantomarks might appeal to Dembski and I am wondering if he expected a different reaction. In thinking about this as I write, it also occurs to me that in someways the above quote is a good description of Dembski's god so maybe it's not so anti-ID after all. But then, I am severely sleep deprived at the moment, so you may be right that folks have been licking toads.

You and me both. The comments are almost uniformly "This is nonsense". and so Dembski might make it disappear rather than have viewers wondering "Why was Dembski interested in gibberish?"

I think it's obvious.

Bill likes the paper, for obvious reasons, but part of his brain still tells him that most people will laugh at him for this. So he tosses it out all casual-like, saying "so, uh, what do you guys think about this?" He figures if everyone likes it, he'll say so too, but if everyone hates it, he'll just drop the subject.

This is the same Bill who believes in angels and the Bible code, and who took his kid to a faith healer.

My theory is that wMad hasn't looked at the paper seriously, and has thrown it out to the wolves, to see what they think.  Now he knows, he won't have to read it properly.

Larry has made a couple of mistakes:
1. Broken the unwritten rule that the IDiots never link to materialist reality based blogs, such as this one where Dave has been pwned, and
2. Has failed, for the 6,483rd* time, to anticipate that his own comments will be torn to pieces.

Hello and welcome to the latest addition to my family of blogs. Yes, you're read that right. I'm delighted to have been asked to post at PTET, my one-hundreth blog, in celebration of his one hundredth post to "After The Bar Closes". I've never been there myself. Apparently it's materialist, Darwin-worshipping, God-hating heaven.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm a Toronto-based journalist; Roman Catholic Christian. I'm an avid blogger, an award winning author, and three time winner of a "world's best grandmother" mug. Look out for my books of ghost stories, "The Spiritual Train" and "The Spiritual Lane". I got help with the big words from a real scientist I met at a dinner party! Coming soon, there's a sequel set in the world of sewage management, "The Spiritual Drain", and a children's book set at the docks of old Newfoundland, "The Spiritual Crane".

Darwinists are mean and spiteful because in their world-view, life is meaningless. I mean if all we are is material atoms, then what possible use could here be for love, hate, science or helping people? We'd all just be animals rutting, rutting, filthy rutting to pass on our genes.

Darwinists persecute me because of my beliefs. Sometimes I wish I was Jewish, because they really get persecuted, but I get persecuted so much for being Roman Catholic I don't think I'll change.

Life is so obviously, like, designed. I mean, just look at it. Do I look like a monkey? Do I look like a rutting animal? OK, so DaveScot is like the missing link (joking!), but that nice Dr. Dr. Dr. Dembski says there's some incredible secret they have which means it's important Mr Stroppy Cheesy-Poofs won't be going anywhere for a long time.

"Intelligent Design" is so obviously not religious. Just look at it? Does it look religious? Darwinism - now there's a religion. That's why Christians (and my Jewish friends!) don't believe in it. Some people call themselves Christian evolutionists, but they're so far removed from real spiritual beings that I can pretend they don't exist. And anyway, they say that God is bigger than science. That's absurd. It's obvious to anyone with half a brain. That nice Dr. Dembski has three doctorations so he's very very, very clever. He agrees with me that it's completely obvious that everything is front-loaded into our DNA... So all of us carry the entire future of the Universe already written in our genes!

Materialists never dream. What's the point if all we are is rutting beasts? They're not interested in the future, where maybe one day President Palin will be arm and arm with a Toronto-based grandmother journalist, thrust by popular acclaim to be Prime Minister of Canada? With a pony! Now that's a future we can all believe in.

Now, over at "The Mindless Hash", bake the best communion-cookies you've ever tasted.

Don't miss me at "Salvage Blag", where I tell all those "scientists" with their fancy-pants "degrees" just where they are going wrong.

* Plus, I think that if you check "The Rules", version 2.5 1957 version, you will find that a WAP-POTW and a POTW can run concurrently.

Umm, the mean time between POTW is something like 36 hours. If Amadan has had is POTW for 4 days then there is a breakdown in the system. Only Posts Of The Month are supposed to last that long.
