the Is It Down site is not totally accurate about the duration, but UD has been down for me for ~ 30 mins so far.

I hope it's nothing serious. I'm not ready to lose the Keystone Kreationists just yet  :O  :(  ???

It's down for me at the point of writing, but was up earlier. Perhaps KF and BA77 have run the site over the authorised network data limit for the month.

Curiously, the thread has just reached page 404. This surely can't be pure random chance.  :D

Did Moses have to go up the mountain to speak to God because that was the only place that had a strong enough signal?

Just think of the psychological damage that this will do to KF and Batshitcrazy77 if this goes on for any length of time.

KF is probably standing outside his front door hollering at the tourists for being sluts.  :p

And drafting an OP to explain why UD being down is another example of civilization heading towards the cliff.

He just posted "First Principles" #22, which suggests he's having trouble understanding the definition of 'first'.  :p  :p  :p

Chernobyl should increase the mutation rate (which has been documented), but will only lead to further evolution if there is selection, which we also have evidence for. It’s not obvious how Chernobyl will affect reproductive isolation, though.

After a while of repeatedly correcting Bob on these issues, one begins to seriously wonder whether Bob even has the mental capacity to understand these issues. These are elementary mistakes that should be easily learned and corrected by normal people.

If you thought that people who were borderline mentally retarded couldn't also be condescending, you stand corrected.  :p

And yet you yourself are the one who jumped into this thread and did not address the meat of my argument. i.e. That atheistic materialism cannot support ‘personhood’ in the first place and therefore undermines any legal protection of personhood that might be conveyed upon ‘persons’ under the constitution.

I dealt directly with that: the argument is logically incoherent, because it relies on a particular theological view. Therefore, thanks to the establishment clause, it doesn’t have any legal weight in the US. The legal aspect is the meat of your argument, as you are making a legal argument.

nice attribution, Bob.

ba, you are the one who claims “‘personhood’ itself must necessarily be based on a theological view of life,”, not Bob.

Bob is pointing out that a religious definition of personhood such as that can’t be the basis for legal policy.

It's curious how the gravitational attraction of the s key changes whenever bornagain77 calls me "Bob (and weave) O'Hara". I suspect this is not due to evolution by natural selection, but I have yet to calculate its FCSI/O

Ah so. So if a search of text for "separation" doesn't find anything, then the text says nothing about gaps? Oh wait, "gaps" is for holes in the fossil record rather than gov't documents. Never mind.

If anyone wants to burn a sock, they should ask if the word Jesus appears anywhere in the constitution.

Pretty sure the specific phrases "freedom of speech" and "speedy trial" aren't in the Constitution, either.

That thread blew up overnight. There's a reason the UK celebrates Thanksgiving on July 4th.

Meanwhile the Why some biologists are beginning to question the “biological species concept” thread by Denews has been entertaining to follow. Mimus and Brother Brian kick the comments off pointing out that the implication in the title is simply wrong: the idea that ‘species’ is difficult to impossible to define has been acknowledged by scientists for a very long time. (Bob O’H also points out that the title does not reflect the content that the OP quotes, but hey, it’s Denyse - what do you expect?)

The regulars pretty much acknowledge Mimus’ and BB’s point, but being UDers they argue the point anyway. Bornagain77 chimes in several times with his usual barrage of words, quotes and links, twice referring to the ‘point’ he is making. As I write this the final comment is:

I can never remember who the secondary players are at UD because if they're science-based people they have to change names as they get banned. So I haven't been reading Mimus's comments, but maybe I should start:

I’m not sure what the point of this is. For what it’s worth. I genuinely think you are ignorant of the literature on isolating mechanisms. I’m not sure why else you could write the post that you did.

Certainly most people posting at UD don’t know much evolutionary biology. There is not shame in that, of course. It’s only holding very strong opinions on topics that you are ignorant about that I object to.
