Ok, I've jumped on the bandwagon.

Anyone else care to join me? This is way more fun that posting on Uncommon Descent; no former dell employees screwing with what you write.

Here's the link to the thread on Larry's blog where this happened.

I wasn't paying close attention, so help me out here -- who and what was this deleted comment?

As might have been anticipated, Larry's no-rules blog has gone completely off the rails

Oh, I'm sure it'll get even better once I start posting my responses to his inane 19 reasons.  Nothing he hates more than the presentation of facts contradictory to his beliefs.  I know, promises, promises.  I helped some friends move this weekend, and injured my eye Friday morning, but I have time on Monday, and either Wednesday or Thursday to devote to this.  I downloaded the entire electronic case file from the court website - there's documents there that aren't on any of the usual sites (including the NCSE).  Lots of material for me to assimilate, though.

BTW, I'm willing to distribute any of the ECF files (by document) if people ask.  The one type of file not available are the transcripts, but those are available at NCSE.  Be warned - some documents are over 1000 pages long and are thus split into multiple files (I have them saved by document number - for example, the decision is document 342)

I'd like to ask anyone who regularly posts here that if you've participated in adding profanity or other stuff to help Larry's blog go off the rails that you go back over and delete it (if you have a Blogger ID) or tell Larry that he can delete it with your permission. If this is to be an experiment, I'd prefer that the regulars here not be the folks making things bad over there.

While a few bad words might give some people the vapors, the seriously off-the-rails stuff involves indirect death threats.

That is a very seriously worrisome post.  I mean, I know that JAD is nutters, but I didn't realize he might be... well, homicidal.

Personally, I find it very amusing. DS threatening to travel to Vermont and kick JAD's ass. JAD saying "bring it on".

Are we sure it is JAD, and not someone pretending to be him?  OK, it looks like him, and links to his profile, but can that be faked?  There's an apology there, for example, that to me doesn't read like JAD.

I've just had a WTF moment.  I searched Web of Science for JAD's name, and found this:
Dionyssiou DD, Demiri EC, Davison JA (2005). A simple method for determining the breast implant size in augmentation mammaplasty.  AESTHETIC PLASTIC SURGERY 29: 571-573.

I think it should be acknowledged that my actual age and emotional age are slowly diverging.

The JAD post is legit based on his profile. The davescot post he is responding to probably isn't.

The apology may not come from the real JAD. The author's name is not clickable, contrary to the death threat post.
The real author of the self-banning apology could be daveScot. :)

Reading this blog is quite an enjoyment.  :D

Yeah, but it's #### confusing.  As far as I can tell, the professor did it, in the hallway, with a shotgun.

Oddly enough, my last three posts have not appeared.  Is Larry's blog out of memory?  Or is Larry going to impose a censorship policy after all?

I would be very disappointed if he did - his willingness to permit any and all comments was very commendable.  And that's about the only thing I've ever said that was positive about Larry!  I must be slipping.

Well, check it out now, apparently the Davison 'apology' is fake. It never really sounded like Davison to me. But his 'shotgun' post appears to be authentic.

Gotta admit, when Larry said he wasn't gonna censor, he was as good as his word...

Old news, RGD.  He last posted in that thread a month ago.  No point bringing it up now.

According to Larry, some comments are slow loading.  I'm inclined to believe him - the symptoms he described matched what I was observing.  Might be the traffic he's getting.

Why don't these guys just use some blogging software that doesn't hold comments in queues, or delay posting the information?

He's new to it, it's free, and it's popular (the AOL of blogging, as it were).  In other words, it's free and he doesn't know better.

Somebody is deliberately disrupting Larry's blog. Posting under other peoples names and going way OTT.

The only way you can be reasonably certain people are who they claim to be is if they are registered. Then a name is underlined and or apears in blue depending how you get to the comment section.

That's what happens in blogs that allow comments from unregistered users.  ???
Can Larry cancel the ability to post without being registered?

I don't know. It would be a good idea to do so if possible.

I am quite impressed that Larry is refusing to censor. Looks like somebody wants to change that.

I posted directions on my blog for how to force only registered users. Does anyone think it's anyone other than Dumbsh!t Dave that's putting up the nutso stuff?

It is actually funny to read because it's so wacky. Poor Dave, I wonder how this has affected his bloggg.

What's cool is that you can tease the IDiot and he can't stop you but his readership gets to comment too. Busts him down to corporal, y'know?

DS is my No1 suspect. So many of his stock-in-trade insults slip into the posts.

The nutso stuff seems to have slowed down a lot, but I'm not convinced there's only one person posting it all. It looks to me like a couple different people.

If Larry's blog reduces the number of visitors to UD, DT has a ready-made solution: just slightly decrease the number of people he bans/deletes. Voila! No change in visitorship!
