OMG.  How does a car become a submarine?

For those that missed it first time around, oleaginous narcissist Homme de la Renaissance Berlinski gives his car-to-submarine analogy here.
In a twofer, he includes the now classic the "I stopped at 50,000 changes" line.

Has David Berlinksi ever shown his workings for the "50,000 changes" claim? And why not? Are we to believe that he's said this, which has made him rich and famous, but he hasn't kept the original notes? I think we should start a competition to find the original workings of Berlinksi's "50,000 changes" claim. Winner gets a copy of a Denyse O'Leary book. Runner-up gets two Denyse O'Leary books.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v....bedded#

Someone figured it out, but I'm left confused.  Is this a win for Darwinism?   I also saw a jeep with a jeep snorkel once, but it was only halfway in the water.

I like Berlinski's example of getting a cow to turn into a whale.  A list with 50,000 items is quite impressive.  This brings up another good question.   What would it take to turn a *ahem* banana into a raven?  Darwinists have never asked this question nor come up with a list.  What are they hiding!?

I'm watching Berlinski right now on YouTube here and I notice two things:

First, this is part 2 of a four or five part series titled, "The Incorrigible Dr. Berlinski" and it's sponsored by "YaNabi.com - Largest Islamic Portal" and

Second, at about 2:45 in the interview, Berlinski is listing all of the things you would have to change in a cow [which whales are not descended from, incidently] into a whale and one of them is
Quote
The skin has to change completely, it has to be made impermeable to water, that's one change.

Dr. Berlinski evidently comes from a country where their cows leak through their permeable skin. ( I wonder if they swell up and burst during rainstorms?)  Either that or he knows about as much about whales and cows as he knows about evolution.  I think I'll go with B.  He wins the night with Denyse O'Leary.

He probably heard somewhere about the Cetartiodactyla thing and figured cow was close enough, because he's an idiot.  Or, figured that was adequately misleading and would seem suitably ridiculous to those who don't know any better, because he's an asshole.

Well, he's not dead.  His crappy blog has an October 22nd entry.  He was bitching about gay rights being a neo-colonial imposition or something:

Quote
In short, the UK MPs in question hope to use colonial power to impose on unwilling Caribbean people of Judaeo-Christian heritage the novelty of so-called same-sex marriage, which is both repugnant to the overwhelming majority of the peoples of the Caribbean and which is credibly destructive to family life, the provision of a safe and stable environment for the nurture of children and corrupting of public order in general.

I'm sure he feels the same way about dressing "slutty" in court.

The Incorrigible Dr Berlinski. It's an accurate description, but not a flattering one; what kind of scientist wants to be incapable of being corrected, or having beliefs which are "necessarily true simply by virtue of being believed"? Kind of smacks of total unwillingness or inability to yield to contrary evidence and argument.

Remember niwrads thermodynamics thread

He cited the biologos foundation as believing that information is beamed to earth from the sun:

Doomsday Smith #11,

Your claim that no evolutionist considers the Sun as source of biological complexity is contradicted by many examples. For instance read the following recent statement by Biologos Foundation (of Dr. Francis Collins, a major evolutionist scientist):

Quote
“With biological evolution however, the system being considered is not the universe, but the Earth. And the Earth is not an isolated system. This means that an increase in order can occur on Earth as long as there is an energy input — most notably the light of the sun. Therefore, energy input from the sun could give rise to the increase in order on Earth INCLUDING COMPLEX MOLECULES AND ORGANISMS.”

Your “dead horse” is not so dead after all.

This is not a claim that the sun delivers biological complexity, it simply states that mechanisms which can produce biological complexity derive power from the sun.

Don’t defend the indefensible. “X gives rise to the increase in order on Y” is fully different from “X powers Y” and the guys at Biologos Foundation know it.

I thought it worth chasing up so I e-mailed the Biologos foundation and posted this response:

They (after a long delay) replied to say:

Quote
. . . You’re right that nowhere in the Questions’ response were we making a statement about ‘information’ being delivered to Earth via light beams from the sun. We meant only to clarify that the Earth itself is not a closed system, as is often mistakenly assumed in conversations about the 2nd law.

As if to prove that modernization and secularization are not the same thing, as sociologist Peter Berger maintains, long-deceased cultural icons are "appearing" again. Darwin's face has been discovered in a tree and Turkish secularist Kemal Ataturk's face in a hillside shadow in a remote Turkish village. All the more interesting because Darwin is the icon of North American atheists and Atatürk was a devout secularist.

I wonder if the American government has followed up on that tip they got warning of a dangerous individual by the name of Gordon E. Mullings of the Kick-a-Baby Initiative planning on taking a visit to the States...?

My guess is that Gordon's staying on the down-low so as not to arouse any suspicion.  I'd probably even bet that the area of the Caribbean he lives in isn't as Judeo-Christian as he fantasizes about, and over there he's looked at as being a moron even more than he is by every sane and decent person who reads his internet drivel.  I can't imagine he's a very pleasant human being in person.

Uggh! That's nonsensical even for O'Leary. Instances of pareidolia in "modernized" parts of the world demonstrate that those places are not "secularized"? I guess so, if "secularized" means devoid of any superstition whatsoever, even in the everyday private lives of the populace. Which it doesn't.

When I was 15 I went on a church youth group trip to the Bahamas.  We ran a vacation Bible school for a week for our "sister church".  The general consensus was that in the Bahamas 95% of people will call themselves Christian if you ask them their religion.  About 20% actually attend church semi-regularly, and the rest are just paying lip service.  I'm guessing it's similar across the Caribbean.  The locals will call themselves Christian, while performing daily voodoo rituals just in case.

My guess is Gordon Mullings of TKI doesn't have many friends outside of church.

1) all scientists are ID scientists, they just don't know it
2) measure FCSI? if something is functional, complex, specified and has information it's FCSI. what more do you want? go read about transcription and translation, that's FCSI.
3) Michael Behe is right about everything

StephenB has been missing in action the better part of a week. Maybe they've got another circle jerk going elsewhere we haven't seen.

Maybe they've all been called to join Dr Dr D's legendary Super-Double-Secret ID group - the one that coordinates all the research*.

After all, we're talking about UD's intellectual cream of the crop here.  And, sadly, I'm not joking.

*"Does it look designed to you?"
"Why, yes, Dr Dr D. It does."

One parsimonious explanation might be that they all went on teh rapetour. Hey, maybe they did get the date right this time even though they missed out last month. Wonder if the Heddle telescope could get pictures?

Quote (Lowell @ Oct. 23 2009,10:49)

Considering that the CIA has never been wrong about anything, ever, that should settle the matter.

I'm still mildly upset about a certain science journal whose name begins with N who published a letter of mine, where I had used some data from the CIA factbook.  I had added the explanation "data from CIA factbook.  And after all, they should know", but it get deleted.  Boooo!
