Hey, I have those on my CV.

OK, the 'local newspaper' is called Nature and they call them 'Correspondences', but it's really not much different.

Do you really count those. I don't.

Do you think I should?

I do, but I mark them clearly. I think it does show engagement in the scientific community.

The big problem with their argument, I think, is that they’re overstating the difficulty of their arguments. You don’t need to be the World’s Greatest Scientist to see through the bullshit ID is peddling; basic competence in one’s field and a little familiarity with creationist arguments is sufficient to equip one with everything necessary to knock ’em down time and again. You really don’t need a top-flight cardiac surgeon to put a band-aid on a boo-boo, and you don’t need to be publishing 40 papers a year in Nature to tear apart the follies of creationism.

We could ask them to talk about the 2.8 million US dollars that the DI gave to climate denial groups. But, I guess with one denial, you tend to get all of them.

Actually, that's how much the DI received from others, to promote climate denial.  Not that it affects your point.

Who's an authority on evolutionary theory?
There's an interesting discussion going on at Uncommon Descent. Barry Arrington is wondering who to believe when it comes to evolutionary theory and many of the ID regulars have chimed in [Authority in evolutionary theory]. Clearly, this is an important issue for them because they don't want to be accused of not understanding evolution. They want to protect their version of Darwinism.

They seemed to have reached a consensus. They say you can't be an authority on evolutionary theory unless you have published a scientific paper on the subject in the last decade or so. What this means is that they can dismiss the views of many evolution supporters because we don't meet the minimum qualification.1 Our view on what is, and isn't, proper evolutionary theory are just personal opinions so they don't count.

Unfortunately for them, this also eliminates Barry Arrington, Vincent Torley, Denyse O'Leary, Casey Luskin, Stephen Meyer, Jonathan Wells, Jonathan McLatchie, Michael Behe, Salvador Cordova, Jonathan Bartlet, Michael Egnor, Cornelius Hunter, Gordon Elliot Mullings, Ann Gauger and just about everyone else in the Intelligent Design Creationist camp. If they stick to their guns, it means that nothing posted on the ID blogs is anything more than a personal opinion by someone who is not an authority on evolutionary theory.

This is excellent news! I coauthored a letter to Animal Behaviour with Lloyd and Wallen on evo biology -- which means I'm on their approved authority list.

Does this mean they'll have to listen to me now?

You're not exactly helping your case here - the more you post these hate filled, abusive screeds the easier it is to believe Gordons claims - you are presenting yourself as the kind of person who would actually do what he claims you have done.

A village in Eastern Hungary according to Wikipedia.

But the usual usage could almost be seen as an acronym for 'in like kind'.  The phrase 'of that ilk' implies 'coincidence of name and estate', which explains its usage in Scottish and Irish parliament and heraldry.
Defined as 'a kind of person', synonymous with 'like'.

A commenterrecently reminded meof one of the many fundamental fallacies of evolutionary thought. When I point out problems with evolution, and make arguments against evolutionary thought, it is not because I am against the idea or want it to be false. Life would be much easier if the evidence simply supported evolution, if evolutionary thought was a stellar example of intellectual progress, if—to put it simply—evolution was an undeniable scientific fact, just as evolutionists insist. But it’s not. Evolution is not any of those. Evolution is not supported by the empirical evidence, it is not a rational, intellectual movement, and it is not a scientific fact, undeniable or otherwise. I’m not grinding a personal ax here, I’m simply pointing out the obvious. It makes no difference to me if evolution is true, false, or somewhere in between. But it does make a difference when we lie to ourselves.

Remember that, you Godless bastards.  It makes no difference to Corny whether evolution is true or false, he just hates lies.
