They are pissed off because an author took liberties with facts, and then arranged them in such a way as to be libelous towards the catholic church and Opus Dei.... Then, after all of this, the author of the book still refuses to publically acknowledge that the characterization of the catholic church and Opus Dei are completely fictitious.... Dan Brown keeps trying to claim that his book is a fictional story based on facts.  I have a friend who is a member of Opus Dei...and he has gotten more grief since that book came out than you can imagine.  People honestly believe that Opus Dei is a religious cult...as described in the book

I guess that means they should also respect the fundamental human right of atheists to have no religious beliefs, right? And while respecting their right to hold their beliefs, to reject that they have the one and only Truth, eh? Nice touch, invoking the fact that other religious groups take a violent, intolerant stance against nonbelief in their own Truth. I guess Jesus didn't really mean "turn the other cheek" and "the meek shall inherit the earth". I thought the DaVinci Code was a fun read, if not particularly strong literature, but I didn't at all buy into it as any form of fact. All this complaining from the Catholic church just keeps it selling. Are they getting some sort of kickback?

When I was a kid, my mother told me that back in the 1950's, the Catholic church maintained a list of movies that were banned by the church and which no good Catholic should see. guthrie Posts: 696 Joined: Jan. 2006 (Permalink) Posted: May 11 2006,11:39    You must have seen that Father Ted episode where a film involving nudity etc arrives on the Island, after being banned in the rest of Ireland, and ted and Dougal have to to out and protest against it. With placards saying "Careful now!" Indeed, their protests are so successful that the film has a bumper run, since everyone on the island want to see what is getting them so worked up, and dont mind a bit of nudity.
