Along with those other crackpots; Euclid, Newton, and Einstein; please add Hilbert.

Com'on guys! We've hit a main vein!"

At least Hilbert has a hotel large enough to accommodate them all. Just don't expect to see Mapou & Joe at breakfast.

They’re already on the record for claiming that infinity exists and they will look bad if the opposite is shown to be true. Mathematicians are political/religious animals just like Darwinists, therefore they are not to be trusted.

My peers are the public. If a concept cannot be explained in simple terms that the average intelligent layperson can understand, it’s crap, IMO.

I wonder if they have asked Dr. Dr. Dembski (isn't one of his degrees in math?) about any of this.

Seems funny that they are arguing against an entire class of scholar... the group of which seems to provide an above average number of the ID proponents.

We live in amazing times.

The contributors at UD have not only single-handedly smashed the pillar of biology down to its very foundation, they've moved on and stuck their pike deep into the heart of mathematics.

2014 has been a banner year for Uncommon Descent and I'm incredibly fortunate to have lived to see it.

What can we expect in 2015?

UD takes down veterinarians and another theological tour of Scandinavia?

What can we expect in 2015? To be one year away from evolution's death of course!

What kind of farewell party do you think they'll throw at UD in 2016? I kind of think that they'll want a surprise party.

Maybe we should start planning it for them now. :) Time flies, after all.

Joe's Garage

This Joe keeps a coupla quartsa beer in his garage. Excellent album. Some fine music, a plethora of styles, and lots and lots and lots of fun. Not really relevant to our Joe, except the name.

Has anyone brought up Zeno's Paradox yet?

It might explain why ID has done bugger-all since 1802.

Erm.. wouldn't that have to mean that they're half right every time? I don't think that's the case.

It would mean the absence of any forward motion.  It's not completely clear amidst all the poo-flinging, but Mapou seems to actually believe this.

I can't tell wtf mapou believes. It seems to be something like "Infinity is okay as a concept, just not an actual thing, but all these famous scientists and mathematicians believe it's a real thing, which makes them all nuts."

...which is some kinda confusion.

Joe, there are just as many even numbers as natural numbers.

Well for every even number there are two natural numbers.

Perhaps Joe will interrupt his search for the largest known number, and look for an odd number which can't be doubled.

So, just as if we were measuring out two quantities of flour, we conclude that the set of real numbers is larger than the set of rational numbers.

No, I still don’t like it since I don’t believe for a moment that that there is such a thing as “the set of all real numbers”. One of the problems with many mathematicians is their refusal to acknowledge that we don’t live in a changeless universe. They inexplicably believe that operations occur in no time at all. So when they say “For every natural number n there is another number n+1, they ignore the fact that n+1 is an operation that has a duration. The expression “for every n” is an inexplicable magical poofery that assumes the very thing (infinity) that it is trying to prove or describe. It is self-referential fruitcake nonsense. It’s crackpottery in the not-even-wrong category.

Now, if you had said that the expansion of one set is faster than the expansion of another set, then there would be no contradictions at all.

I think he realises he's painted himself into a corner, but can't admit he's made a fool of himself.  Like Joe, with less swearing.

Amusingly, his "mathematics is wrong if you can't physically realise it in the universe" act is much more hyper-materialist than anything Teh Evil Darwinists have ever argued.

Dio, you’ve now posted 60 of the last 62 posts on this thread, including the last 37 posts straight. Many of your posts are seemingly repeats (or almost identical to) adjacent posts you’ve made. You are effectively killing the threads.

This is ineffective. Please consider altering your approach.
