For percentage of temperature to be meaningful, it has to be based on degrees above absolute zero, <i>not</i> degrees above zero C or zero F.

OK. What does that have to do with a steak being heated by 4% of the heat it emits?

Or better yet, what does that have to do with the fact that CO2 only absorbs in 8% of the Earth's black body emissions?

That's 4% of the ABSOLUTE temperature. If the temperature in question is 27 degrees C, that's around 300 Kelvin, and 4% of that would be around 12 degrees, not 1 point something.

I don't recall the details of the conversation where that 4% came up in the first place.

That was what was hilarious. Joe's 5.6º calculation means he never understood the difference between absolute and relative temperature scales--something any high-schooler with a chemistry or physics class would consider obvious. And he's lecturing us on thermo etc.

No, the context was 4% of what it emits. And the 4% came up because CO2 only absorbs 8% of what the earth emits and will only send 1/2 of that back towards the earth

Except that isn't the answer dumbass. The steak will reach equilibrium with the room and will never even reach the 5.6 that I originally stated.

And the steak will definitely NEVER reach 160 once it is taken off of then heat source.
