Mung: Is equilibrium thermodynamics the same as non-equilibrium thermodynamics?

Zachriel: No. The difference is time.

Is my brain at or near equilibrium?

Does it have a chapter on the thermodynamics of strawmen caricatures soaked in ad hominems and set alight that cloud, confuse, poison and polarise the atmosphere?

E.T.A: Add failure to use the Oxford comma to Gordo's long list of sins.

Since September 13, 2015 Dionisio posted pasted another 578 comments additions to that thread i.e., 5 per day. However, since this is the most ignored UD thread ever it will take at least seven more years until it will be among the five "Most Popular Posts" listed at UD.

There was a chapter, but it was banned after the notorious hazing incident when they used too much oil of ad hominem, and burned down the gymnasium.

I refuse to believe that anybody has flown/sailed/floated/washed up on the shore or otherwise traveled thousands of miles to Monserrat in order to harass Kairosfocus.  I'm probably the only one here who has ever seriously thought of travelling to that island for any reason.

The only thing keeping me from going is the mortal dread of being stranded on a tiny island with a foaming-at-the-mouth nut job who who absolutely insists on talking (at GREAT length!) about Jesus, His Mighty Works and the Holy Entropy of Fishing Reels when the next plane outta there is three days away.

I don't know about that.

It could eat brains, thereby sparing us a lot of blather.  Don't know if anything could survive on UDite brains, though.

No volcano, unless the thing that bubbles air counts as one.

PaV lacks the honesty or the reading comprehension to be taken seriously:

Regarding Thornton and Ortlund's newest work on the evolution of glucocortocoid receptors he quotes this conclusion:

"What this highlights is how proteins that end up evolving new functions had those capacities, because of their flexibility, at the beginning of their evolutionary history, . . . ”

as meaning, in his words:

"From what I can see, the situation is worse now than it was years before when they did similar experiments. It looks like they’re willing to admit they have no idea how the “evolution” of GR happened, but that it did:"

What?

PaV also mentions prior work, which actually demonstrated the opposite of what he recalls: "It was ‘viable’, i.e., ‘functional,’ pathways they were searching for. The cunundrum was something like this: one had to have two ‘sets’ of mutations in place; and, IIRC, if you had the one ‘set’ in place, then the mere presence of one of the other ‘set’ of mutations would completely destroy function. ... Hence, there was no ‘functional’ pathway from, let us say, A (‘ancient protein’) to B (‘present day protein’)."

I love that PaV admits that he is waiting to hear from Behe in order to determine what the finding of the paper means.
