Bilbo has some idiosyncratic views that are hard to argue him out of, but he's a decent sort and it would be interesting to chat with him.

(Assuming he's the Telic Thoughts Bilbo and not the Tom Johnson/YNHB/Chris Mooney-spoofing sockpuppet Bilbo. Him I can do without.)

Didn't someone invite him?

Rich did. I posted a heads up for him at a couple of sites I have seen him post at and where I can also post! (Biologos and Mike Gene's book promo site)

"Bilbo" was also an old-timer at ARN. I looked in on them the other day, and found that most of the "new" threads were resurrected from 8 years ago with one or two new posts.

I kinda like these cargo-cult threads, but I hold no hopes regarding the sudden appearence of a new chew-toy...

Bilbo, for whatever reason, still seems to hold out hope that something useful will come of the "ID project". So I doubt we'll see him here as I guess that would poison him in the minds of the other posters at TT.

You may well be right. At the moment he is castigating Kathryn Applegate at Biologos for quote-mining Behe in the process of suggesting Behe was quoting out of context in "Edge of Evolution". Comments don't have permalinks so it's around half-way through starting at comment 29103

Link to Biologos thread

PS anyone with any useful references on current views of relatedness of flagella to type three secretory systems, I'd be grateful for a link or two.

BioLogos is quite interesting: Not only are there regulars who adhere to science, there are also learnéd scholars who can tear the biblical literalists' theological reasoning to shreds. And that is why the lying coward Floyd Lee - who over at PT claimed to be interested in "the interface between science and religion" - never goes there.

That's a cool article.

It has not escaped our notice that the presence of all the flagellar components on a mobile element suggests a simple and rapid means by which organisms could acquire motility.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am flying by the seat of my pants with Google as co-pilot!

So does anyone have any idea what this plasmid is doing toting a suitcase full of flagellum proteins?

I mean, what are the odds that one of the first bacteria sequenced would be carrying Behe and Dembski's iconic luggage, unless the world of bacteria is full of such oddities?

I'd guess about the same as some random meteorological event creating some sort of conveyance out of a set of old parts.
