Dr Dembski debated Dr Miller and others once at the American Museum of Natural History. It was an evening that Dr. Dembski would probably rather forget. Want to see a transcript?

How is Giltard responding to the royal beat-down being delivered by a guy whose email address ends "@ieee.org"? How do you think he's responding

Gotta love it. Giltard makes a claim about evolutionary algorithms. A Ph.D in computer science, who has professionally consulted on evolutionary algorithms, written papers on them, presented on them at IEEE conferences, refereed papers on them, taught about them, reads it and says "You don't know what you're talking about." and Giltard's reaction is "Darwinian fundamentalists are in a state of panic"

"And coming around the third corner it's DougMoron...DougMoron...DougMoron...DougMoron...GilDodgen...DougMoron...DougMoron...it's a photo finish....oh, Gildodgen by a nose!"

Gil, If you still don't get that a simulation is not dependant on physically making the substrate experience the same effects as the simulated effects in the software after 126 posts, you are truely uncommonly dense.

Although I'm sure GoP meaures his self worth in a simular type of 'how many responses did I get?' way.

Never in the course of human history have so few missed so much by so many.

Adrian Wyard videotaped the proceedings of the June 17th, 2001 debates over ID at the "Interpreting Evolution" conference at Haverford College. I call it "ID's Black Sunday". Usually, ID advocates love to remind people of various debates they've gotten the opposition to show up for. So far as I know, 2001/06/17 has gone utterly unremarked from the ID side.

The lineup had Dembski and me, Mike Behe and Ken Miller, and Warren Nord and Genie Scott. I'm up for a repeat performance. There's not much that I'd have to update in my presentation.

Ha ha.  The "Jesus Didn't Exist?" banner is back up on UD.  It links to TheGodMovie.  I can't imagine Dembski's happy about that.

I usually don't visit UD, relying on this "Best of" thread to provide the comedy highlights.  I'd strongly recommend other lurkers and semi-lurkers like me to read at least the latter parts of the Gil hasn't a clue thread in its entirety.  Priceless.

Nonsensical statements like this will quickly get you unselected from this blog. And the ID proponents who post here, know better than to buy such claptrap.

Consider this a warning.

Scott,

If you have an argument to make, make it. Otherwise, feel free to take your bluster and bold fonts elsewhere.

I am prepared to justify my assertion. Are you able to do the same?

As is typical for DaveScot, he continues to pretend to make arguments after he has booted his adversary and therefore the adversary can't reply.

I can only assume that any comments DaveScot offered after that point have no merit. That includes whatever bragging rights he has to 80486 technology. Sorry, DaveScot, you lose.

Argh! Now DaveScot is citing articles that demonstrate he was wrong.

In any case, the main point of the thread was that GilDodgen and others were conflating the simulation with the substrate. That is obvious, and GilDodgen now says he was just kidding.

Tom English goes ballistic
Quote
PaV:
And it only took him 20,000 models to find a combination that gave him good answers. As I said, this is “trial and error.”

Dredging through models to find one or a combination that works well is intellectual dishonesty, and you have just accused me of it. But you obviously have not read my paper. Your pretense of knowing something about work you have not reviewed makes you the intellectually dishonest party here.

My experiment was planned. I used every single one of the evolved models, from worst to best. The best model gave better predictions than did the combination, but I could not have identified it without cheating.

What amazes me is that you had the opportunity to ask about my work. But instead you jumped headlong into attacking it, highlighting your own dogmatic mindset.

Snap, Zachriel.

I am banned from viewing at ISCID too. They must have got some new software, I don't have a fixed IP address and it still prevents viewing if I try via IE as well as Firefox. I bet there are a few more on the list. Dembski et al must be getting desperate. I had decided to retire but I may lurk awhile to check developments.

What does this message at UD mean? I tried just to open it and couldn't. I know it wasn't a banning, because I was on my work computer, and my log in is from a computer at home with a different IP (in fact, I had to reset my log in for ABTC here at work)

Karl: As a moderator here, it is my responsibility to call people out on their empty and unwarranted assertions and just-so stories. Especially the tired ones that have been exposed time and time again. Therefore, it is unlikely that I’ll be going away any time soon. You, on the other hand, will likely become fast extinct from this blog unless you can legitimately support silly comments like the one I quoted above.

Now, your challenge is to demonstrate how Avida proves that blind, comatose, natural mechanisms can build highly complex, specified, cellular machinery which requires all of it’s components simultaneously to function.

DaveScot put it in the proper perspective:

Scott didn’t tell you why that was nonsense. Any complexity produced in a stepwise fashion by a computer is by definition not irreducible.

Make us all sit up and take notice by getting a computer simulation to reveal a biochemical pathway, based on nothing but random mutation and simulated natural selection, where a flagellum can be produced. I remain quite unimpressed by Avida finding pathways where higher level operands are produced by trial and error tinkering with microcode. Even a blind squirrel finds an occasional acorn.

Yeah...it's all part of the 'Darwinist' konspiracy, ID never gets any attention because the IDiots ban peer review...no peer review...no science...Why?

The peer reviews just say the bleeding obvious about ID.

ID wants pseudo-science peers, peers who are not going to ask questions that have the wrong right answers.

ID has no peers when it comes to Attention/ Intelligence Deficit Disorder.

Like the dyslexic, insomniac agnostic....
ID says:- our peers are peerlessly peeperless and have no peers in science while peering over the precipice into the pit of perpetual pondering, they stay up all night wondering if there really is a dog.
