In response to my 515, KF wrote 2400 words repeating himself again but not actually confronting the points I made.

Also, among other things, WJM is correct to ask KF. “Duty to what, or whom?”

And KF continues to dismiss all the Eastern religions and their views as “pantheistic” without, I think, very much knowledge of them.

Next comment Jerry asks KF:

Quote
Do you live in Martinique? You obviously taught philosophy in Jamaica.

I know Jerry isn't that bright but you think he might have caught one of KF's many hints at his important job with the Montserrat government. I guess KF must work in some secret branch as there's no mention of him in The Montserrat Reporter

Though I did notice a glowing obituary to KF's dad who apparently was a member of the Jamaican government and deeply religious. Chip off the old block, perhaps.

Well of course he does that - they set up all those religions without getting his personal prior approval!  :p

Querius,

what i don’t understand is, where all the Darwinian self-confidence comes from…

Not only in regards to OOL-research, but in general. Every new Darwinian scientific paper on evolution starts with a statement that it is “other than thought, earlier than thought, more complex than thought and so on … “.

Recently, the University of Oregon article: “… long-used approaches for reconstructing evolutionary paths are deeply flawed.”, and “…our finding casts serious doubts over literally thousands of studies that use phylogenetic trees of extant data to reconstruct the diversification history of taxa …”

I really don’t understand where all the Darwinian self-confidence comes from …
maybe because it’s a wildly successful research paradigm which enables hundreds of thousands of papers a year while creationism accomplishes jack shit?

PS We are finding new levels of complexity because we are figuring new shit out, while you guys can barely keep your fake website “journal” alive.  :p

Yup. When biologists agree, evolution is an Atheist Conspiracy; when they don't, it's a Theory In Crisis.

Meanwhile, 30,000 Christian sects are proof that Jesus poofed all life into existence 6,000 years ago.

(Footnote: autocorrect tried to change poofed to pooped. Not sure if any of the 30,000 believe that.)

Ha. I just went to a website where you can look up the Impact Factor of a journal. I tyoed in bio-craplexity. The results page was blank. Let me be clear. It didn’t have a 0 or 0.1 Impact Factor (the smallest actual score in the database). It didn’t have an impact factor.

Several of the people who post here, myself included, have  been cited more than every paper in 12 years of bio-craplexity combined.  :D  :)  :p  :O  :D  :p

Acta Baltica-Slavika, ranked #30874, a linguistics journal for the  Balto-Slavic region, is at least on the board.

They probably haven't applied to be listed, which is what you have to do to get one. The criteria are outlined on the WoS pages. I don't know how stringent the criteria are: it's possible they would be OK as long as they don't self-cite too much.

That's probably the software they're using. It's free, so I'm not going to blame them for that.

Glenn did a great job with that.

The version on the OEC site is actually earlier than his last update. Copyright issues after he died.

Now the recent stuff was added.

Holy Cow! The thread that KF and Viola are discussing morality on—i failed to notice kf’s diagram & text...uh...collage...wow

There are certain attributes of effective communication. Kairos does not follow these practices. Two practices you will find in every list of effective communication are clarity and conciseness.

Part of Kairosfocus’s inability to effectively communicate is his utter failure to ever possess those attributes. He fails those hard. He doesn’t even get an F minus, he gets a G.

Oh and I never read his posts because life is too short but he’s either decided now or always done, instead of using “ “ marks like a normal human being, he’s going to use << and >>. Maybe he decided that for all his efforts his text was still occasionally readable and he had to do something about that.  :p  :p  :p  :p  :p  :p  :p

I repeat, the USA is a reasonably functioning democracy, with many means of peaceful assembly, petition, argument, negotiation and more, locally and federally. There is no excuse for rioting, blocking traffic, assaulting passers by, mayhem, arson, attacking police doing the thankless job of law enforcement, shooting, murder, mob rule. All of which have been happening. So, no, I do not buy attempts to induce us to disbelieve our “lyin’ eyes.” I think, the name for this move beyond mere spin is gaslighting.

It should be quite clear what this is. Especially as “dictatorship of the proletariat” — the goal of class warfare on the way to the ever-receeding utopian golden age of Communism — is a self-description of Communist regimes. I refer to Havel’s Power of the Powerless to see what that entails.

DP,

it isn’t just “one photo,” there is clear documentation showing the culture-form marxist character, and it is in the thread above. What is striking, rather, is the general media suppression of the salient facts and patent import of policy positions of the two key movements (doubtless, there is as usual, a whole ecology involved). In addition, it is quite clear from patterns playing out that we are seeing a 4GW update to the Red Guards in action, comparable to several recent insurgencies in Europe and the Middle East.

And no, this is not a place for naive Popperian falsificationism, understanding and applying lessons of history is strategy not science. If you don’t understand the difference, you are short several dimensions in this version of chess.

RP,

FYI, the very first political view I absorbed, literally at mother’s knee, was anti-fascism. FYFI, my political credo, quite literally, is the 2nd para of the US DoI, 1776. I would appreciate your taking due note and refraining from invidious and agit prop laced, slanderous invidious associations.

You are obviously unaware of the incoherence of the conventional political spectrum and its placement of say the National Socialist German Workers’ Party — the expansion of “Nazi” (and yes, they meant the “socialist”) — as “extreme right.”
So yeah this is just a new bullshit affectation he’s got :p

Point of information. There's no key for guillemets on a French «Azerty» computer keyboard, though there is a new French «Azerty amélioré» keyboard standard for Windows where they appear as first choice on the keys for zero and nine.

There is no doubt that we have many behaviours that we adopt, and which would make us very uncomfortable if we behaved in violation of these. Things like telling the truth, or being respectful, not stealing, etc. We call these our moral values. There is little doubt that the majority of people must share these values if we hope to live in a reasonably stable society. But that is the nature of group dynamics.

As small children we all lie, cheat and steal. And it is reasonable to assume that if we never suffered any consequences for doing so, we would continue to do so. But there are consequences. There is feedback. There is reinforcement. These behaviours become conditioned reflexes. We can decide not to obey them, but it would not be easy.

Kairosfocus completely ignores well understood behavioural/psychological dynamics in favour of some objective, outside force. Invoking this outside force simply is not warranted.

No! You get morality from contemplating Plato blah blah Kant blah blah Right Duty Strawman something! My morality just somehow happens to be Truly Objective!
