But wasn't it intelligently designed?

Just left a comment on the top thread of Feser’s blog letting him know someone is kind of impersonating him. Apparently the blog is moderated such that Feser has to approve comments, because it hasn’t shown up yet.

Edward Feser

Edward Feser (1968–) is a Catholic / Christian apologist writer of books such as Aristotle’s Revenge: The Metaphysical Foundations of Physical and Biological Sciences, The Last Superstition: A Refutation of the New Atheism, Aquinas, Scholastic Metaphysics: A Contemporary Introduction, Five Proofs of the Existence of God, and the co-author of By Man Shall His Blood Be Shed: A Catholic Defense of Capital Punishment.[1]

A critic of New Atheists, Feser accuses his opponents of misreading pre-modern philosophers like Thomas Aquinas, Aristotle, and Leibniz, promoting a reversion to Aristotelian metaphysics.[2][3][4]

His book The Last Superstition claims to be a refutation of the New Atheism, which he accuses of "intellectual dishonesty, philosophical shallowness, and historical, theological, and scientific ignorance"; he tries to prove the existence of God starting with Aristotle's teleological metaphysics, in contrast to mechanical Newtonian metaphysics which he rejects.[5] So gravity is explained not by curvature of spacetime but the fact that stones naturally seek the centre of the Earth, and forming water via reaction is the final end of oxygen and hydrogen.[6] To most people this may appear monumentally nonsensical in comparison with Newtonian or Einsteinian physics, but maybe we should ask the stone what it's doing. If you believe that stones have a final purpose, it's not that far a step in terms of credulity to claim that God exists, but that's not really a strong argument for the existence of God.

In contrast to some modern theologians, he also claims that dogs don't go to Heaven.[7] His opinion about unicorns is unrecorded.

Yes but 15 years after ID’s death it’s very funny to watch them pretend that they’re destroying Darwin! And Quantum Mechanics proves Jesus! Etc.  :)  :)  :)

The Recent Comments section of UD stops working for hours at a time. They should put some more intelligent design on that shit.  :)

Perhaps the software is intelligent enough to be embarrassed by the stuff that KF and BA77 are posting. Or merely just bored....

Rule #1: if we can do it, it's intelligently designed.
Rule #2: if we can't do it, it's intelligently designed.

That's some next level philosophy right there.

(ETA: I withdraw the question. Barry is always going #2. As is UB.)

I have been having fun with the “compare” feature of google trends. ID is lower than alien abductions but slightly higher than assless chaps.

You gotta figure Joe and KF are keeping at least two of those afloat.

This pretty much mirrors the trends in interest for ID. I think it is fair to say that UD and related sites have seen a declining trend for several years.

Do you suppose Barry ever figured out that Dembski knew he had a rapidly depreciating asset on his hands, and he better unload it quickly?

linky :)

You know things have gone horribly wrong over there when you see ET defending natural selection.

it seems like people in general don’t care much about this debate lately.

I think that was the point I was making. The interest in ID, regardless of the site, has declined dramatically in the last several years.

Back in 2008, Dave Scott was comparing intelligent design to Darwinism to creationism with Google trends. When people complained about the term Darwinism he shortened it to evolution versus design. Because obviously when people use the word design in Google they’re always talking about ID. I can’t remember if I thought he was an idiot or a liar. Probably both.

Jawa is just trying to act like, hey, people are just losing interest in the debate right now. No bitch searches for evolution are the same as they were 15 years ago. Searches for intelligent design were never remotely as high, and have fallen 99%. Most of the intelligent design websites listed at the Discovery Institute are no longer. The intelligent design college clubs failed a decade ago. Most of the commenters at UD have left.

I understand he doesn’t want to see the writing on the wall, but it’s in big bold neon letters.  :p  :p  :p

“Are these claims really being made to help the theology or to help theistic evolution?”

Hi. The simple answer to that question is that it’s to do conservative biblical theology, as my book makes very clear. Nothing in it favours theistic evolution (though since that’s irrelevant to the book, it’s not precluded either). But the case is made in detail that the author of Genesis very probably did know there were people outside the graden, and constructed his theological case on that knowledge.

So zilch to do with evolution. However, as Rob Sheldon astutely points out (thanks for the order, Rob!), Genealogical Adam makes it no longer necessary to pit Genesis against the history we have from both the whole gamut of historical sciences and history itself, and instead to place the Eden account firmly within history, like the Exodus and the death and resurrection of the Lord.

The Bible therefore shows God’s new creation project to be his action within the public history of mankind, beginning the transformation of the natural (psuchikos) creation to the spiritual (pneumatikos). There’s a glorious view from the summit!

Blessings – Jon

Now that's some Real Science for you Darwinist fools!
