Alexa has UD as the 538,000th most popular website in America, with page views going down and time on site going down. plus he's paying Denise out of his own pocket to keep posting four posts a day, to make it look like the site is still busy. I'm sure he'd love some more ad revenue, but I don't know how he's going to get it. Maybe he could start selling some merch.

ETA how much dinero do you think there is in shipping a cap to a shack in Montserrat?

Maybe UD brand fishing reels?

Oil of ad hominem of the month club?

A streaming service for farty videos?

Hi. I'm Lethean. Will you be an angel for a helpless cause?

Every day the arguments of cdesign proponentsists are straw-manned, oil soaked, and set ablaze.

And they are crying out for more.

Please click the donate button on UD and join their Quixotic adventure with a monetary gift right now.

For just a few non-ambulance-chased dollars a month, only cents a day, you'll help the tard flow.

Coincidentally, last night I read this interesting comment by Gregory over at TSZ where he says, more or less in passing,

I haven't bothered to try and verify that in any way, nor do I have a convenient way to ask him how he knows that.

Just checked the Dishonesty Institute's website, and Dembski is listed as a member of its Board of Directors. No idea how long he's been holding that prestigious position.

He's just in it for the free lunch.

Probably the only place on the planet which would give him a paying job.

Yes, behind the broom cupboard where there are magic ponies and a broken clock. Dembski must be hoping that nobody notices whenever he gets paid for being on staff.

Has anyone with a sock at UD wished the denizens a Merry Kitzmas?  It's the lucky 13th anniversary of Dover!

normally I run all kinds of ad blocking software, so I'm not sure if it's just because I'm using a new phone with a standard chrome browser at the moment, but have there always been a shit-ton of ads all over UD? Cause I'm seeing a shit-ton now. Big gnc one for instance that follows you down the page.

Given that the ads are geared towards a person’s internet history, I would love to see what ads pop up for some of the UD geniuses. I envision ads for conspiracy theory sites for KF, discount police scanners for ambulance chasing Barry, and ads for gay leather bars for Joe.

Over in the Platonic Realm thread, wjm asked me to no longer post because I didn’t accept his major premise. I said I would opt out, but I did make one more post in response to something kf said. wjm deleted my post, so I thought I’d put it over here, where it is somewhat relevant (as there has been a whole string of posts, of which this is one) on the same general set of points.

kf and I disagree about some things, but I think we agree about others. I’m certain that we agree that there is a knowable world apart from our conscious experience of it.

In response to wjm, kf wrote,
Quote

… it is impossible to be in error that one is conscious. Experience is a major process of conscious existence. However, that does not compel one to the further view that experience and particularly perceptions and propositions cannot accurately relate to a physical, external world or to external persons, etc.

and I replied “I agree with you about this, kf”

I think that the world I am conscious of really exists, and that the process, whatever it is, by which information from the physical world enters my consciousness is reasonably reliable.

I just wanted this position saved, for the record, so I posted it here to preserve it.

And I see that wjm has relied to kf:

Quote

I’ll accept that it is a bare possibility that by blind chance we might be making an accurate correlation to some actual external reality should it exist, but that chance is incalculable and absolutely blind and we would have absolutely no way of verifying it.

I’ll repeat something I wrote there: this seems like solipsism to me. There’s no way to prove that solipsism isn’t true, and that what we are experiencing consciously isn’t a complete illusion, but I can’t imagine how one could seriously live with such a view.

so WJM is a ginormous douche, is what you're saying.

New UD format seems a bit crap but I appear to be able to vote comments up or down without logging in. Does it work for other avid readers?

Yeesh. That site format may be just the push I need to stay off the UD sauce permanently. For an outfit that purports to be all about design, you might have thought they'd have given some thought to user experience. Had I ever considered donating to UD (for the steady influx of O'Leary News, of course), the new layout would have changed my mind.

On the plus side the new format limits visible comments to a few dozen words, with a 'Read more' link to expand each one. Saves a whole lot of scrolling to get past BS77's c&p entries.
