But seriously, I've learned a lot about QM that I didn't know by chasing bornagain down some of his rabbit holes, so all has not been wasted. I particularly liked the Preface and Afterward of David Griffiths book.

However, I did just use the phrase "bornagain gallop", but am afraid kf, for some reason, is not around to chastise me. But ba got to Jesus Christ upholding the universe, and I thought that was bit much.

You should be fine. KF’s reaction to the use of “Gish Gallop” appears to be due to the fact that Duane is dead.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award
the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to

Frances H. Arnold
George P. Smith
Sir Gregory P. Winter

They harnessed the power of evolution

The power of evolution is revealed through the diversity of life. The 2018 Nobel Laureates in Chemistry have taken control of evolution and used it for purposes that bring the greatest benefit to humankind. Enzymes produced through directed evolution are used to manufacture everything from biofuels to pharmaceuticals. Antibodies evolved using a method called phage display can combat autoimmune diseases and in some cases cure metastatic cancer.

In his current post, Pioneer’s Fool’s Errand Barry seems to think that the purpose of the Pioneer spacecraft program, or at least the two missions that carried the famous plaque, was solely (or perhaps mainly) to make contact with extraterrestrials.

Barry would much rather the government squandered hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer funds on forced birth and making the gays miserable.

DaveS and PaoloV, it should be clear that the # Baramins must be less than the # Species. As a start, I would suggest that #B = sqrt(#S). Then the uncertainty in the # species (dS) would map to baramins as: dB = sqrt(dS).

So I’m essentially disagreeing with your assertion that dB = dS^2.

In any case, baramins fail to solve the “Ark problem”, however I have a recent book that solves it much more neatly. The Long Ascent: Genesis 1-11 in Science and Myth, vol 1.https://www.amazon.com/Long-As....57FXX2S

I believe that if B = sqrt (S) = S ^ (1/2), then dB = 1 / (2 sqrt (S)) * ds

It is certainly NOT the case that if B = sqrt (S), then db = sqrt (ds). Am I missing something, or do we have an elementary calculus mistake in 8?

Disappointmentally, It doesn't seem to help.  Its the 'same ol', same ol'.

Basically, he can't see how the four fundamental fources of physics can produce iPhones, therefore Jesus, but at least someone who gives a damn can ask questions now.

From Barren Planet to Jesus in Four Easy Pieces (approximately)

Edited to add punctuation.

Speaking of punctuation, do you think BS77's dysfunctional relationship with the comma is a result of childhood trauma, or something else?  :D  :)  :p

Thanks for the link to Genetic Entropy!

Downloaded it from Amazon to my Kindle Here just $9.99.

This is also another data point that should make one suspicious about the concept of deep time.

Perhaps someone has accused him of being anal-retentive, so he's trying to avoid colons.

Obviously skipping a single word from its title in 1977 didn't change much for the Amercian Spectator:
Quote
About Us

The American Spectator was founded in 1924  by George Nathan and Truman Newberry over a cheap domestic ale in McSorley’s Old Ale House. In 1967, the Saturday Evening Club took it over, rechristening it The Alternative: An American Spectator, but by November 1977 the word “alternative” had acquired such an esoteric fragrance that in order to discourage unsolicited manuscripts from florists, beauticians, and other creative types, the club reverted to the magazine’s original name.

For me, reading Alter’s book was the intellectual equivalent of a “Dambusters” bombgoing off in my head: the case it made was so strong that it shattered my psychological defenses and forced me to revise my own theological views. Prior to reading the book, I was quite happy to take up cudgels in defense of the historical accuracy of the Bible. After reading the book, I am now far more skeptical of the Bible’s historical reliability than I was previously, and I no longer hold rigidly to any doctrine of Biblical inerrancy. Instead, my predominant feeling now is one of utter detachment: “Let the chips fall where they may.”

I think Vincent is going thru some changes.  I never thought he was UD material, although hearing him talk about Saint Cupertino, the Flying Saint, gave me pause.  No doubt Batshit thinks the Devil is taking him over.
