Not even with prayer? :p

That worsens the symptoms by an order of magnitude.

Credit where it's due, Steve.  He managed to get nine spittle-free words out, in comprehensible order.  Sure, they're bollocks, but still.  Baby steps...

Yes, but he's one who thinks he knows everything. Or is that the definition of "troll"?

He's a troll in the sense that he just shoots out posts meant to provoke, without any substance to them, and without any intention (or in his case, ability) to engage seriously with any response. He just pokes people to annoy them, and to make himself feel like a big shot.

I made the mistake of clicking on Kairosfocus' name. It took me to a web site that indicates that it is a Kairosfocus briefing note. An 80,000 word briefing note.

Excellent example of the written version of a Gish Gallop.

That's an interesting question.  I suppose that 80,000 words aren't enough to provide time to think "Do I sound like a crank?"

Similarly, Joe took an interest in me when I was an admin at TSZ (see the four or five emails from Frank Huggins I preserved for posterity starting here).  I do wonder, after how many threatening emails might one become introspective enough to ponder "Am I behaving rationally?"

These aren't clearly delineated categories, but I consider KF more a delusional crackpot, and Joe/ET/Frank more of just a dumb asshole. But that's really more a gut impression than a score on a checklist.

Such a volume might need an appendix-ectomy.

Even if only a vestigial one.

Darwinism vs. ID: A game of foxes vs. lions
July 11, 2018 Posted by News under Culture, Darwinism, Intelligent Design, Science
No Comments

From my (O’Leary for News) review of sociologist Steve Fuller’s book, Post-Truth: Knowledge as a Power Game: How ID Foxes Can Beat the Darwinian Lions

Fuller clearly finds the foxes more interesting and sympathetic figures than the lions: “The lion rules by focused shows of force, as opposed to the fox’s diverse displays of cunning.”

A good analogy, if all the foxes have Tertiary Syphilis.

IMHO there is no such thing as ‘settled science’. The very phrase is a contradiction in terms.

If it’s science, it’s not settled. If it’s settled, it’s not science.

Science is a never-ending process of enquiry into nature, and a never-ending process of updating our models. Science stops the moment someone – or some consensus – claims that our knowledge of a subject is ‘settled’.

Whenever I hear or read about ‘settled science’, my dogma detector moves into the red zone.

Hope Charles never gets offered $10 to jump off a bridge in order to demonstrate that some basic facts about Gravity haven't been settled.

Too much trouble, all he needs to do is put an airtight plastic bag over his head and tie it off around his neck to test scientific "dogma". If he is a Hindu maybe he could use his karma to run over his dogma.

maybe he could run a few Amps across his chest. "scientists" would say it's pretty settled that doing so would kill him, but that just proves they're not doing science! Stupid scientists.

Even when possession of some genuine truths is what led to former foxes becoming the reigning lions, their commitment to remaining in power soon overwhelms their commitment to the truth. In the case of the contemporary Darwinian lions their commitment to remaining in power has utterly destroyed their commitment to the truth.

Any rational person capable of objectivity who looks into the ID vs the Darwinian establishment conflict soon realizes that ID won the debate long ago and that the lions have for quite some time been relying soley on raw power, not on rational arguments.

That would explain the hundreds of papers published recently in BioComplexity.
