The Upside of Amazon Manipulation
William Dembski
THE DESIGN OF LIFE is being shamelessly manipulated by the Darwinists at Amazon (go here). Not only are they posting negative reviews that give no indication that the reviewers have read the book but they are also voting up their negative reviews so that these are the first to be seen by potential buyers.

Even though this behavior by Darwinists may seem unjust, there are two upsides:

(1) As the saying goes, there’s no negative publicity. Sales are brisk, especially through www.thedesignoflife.net.

(2) I’ve been talking with the producers of EXPELLED (www.expelledthemovie.com) about making this book a companion volume to Ben Stein’s film. Thanks PZ Myers, Wesley Elsberry, Peter Irons, and others for strengthening my hand in these negotiations.

He doesn't sound bitter at all. Funny how "manipulated by the Darwinists at Amazon" is different from "But if you think that the information service that Bill Dembski has provided you here for years - out of his own resources - is worthwhile, go to Amazon and vote up the reviews that sound like the person has actually READ the book. Vote the others down."

Design Inference, Dembski's "academic papers" site. It claims to have some new material somewhere in there, which it might. I hadn't seen any of it, though.

I'm finding it really really funny, too. Dembski thinks that by assailing naturalism he can restore meaning and faith to the sciences in such a way as to differentiate atheistic science from non-atheistic science. Yet ID says nothing about meaning or faith, and is therefore science, supposedly. It's very good doublethink.

It's also kind of funny that he thinks naturalistic means something other than "concerning only things which we can measure and quantify". Well, funny to see it drawn out at length.

If publicity and sales are the only upsides you see to being paid attention, even overwhelmingly scornful and negative attention, you just might not be doing real science.

Since tardologues have apparently played out, we don't really have any good running jokes anymore (other than LOLCats). But, I think you have just hit upon a new joke.

A great idea!  But I think it should be "you just might be a  cdesign proponentsist."  F**k "w00t" -- cdesign proponentsist is the real word of the year.  (I know it came out with the Dover trial, but the PBS documentary brought it to a wider audience.)

Man. I have to read this all the way through. :D

That is the paper I was looking for when I made this comment here three days ago:
Quote (Freelurker @ Dec. 17 2007,19:44)
I need some quick help. I'm trying to find a document I saw online a couple of years ago. Can't find it now (later I started saving this stuff.)

It was written by Dembski about the time the Polanyi center was being considered/set up. As I recall, he was justifying it to the leaders of Baylor (or somebody).

As I recall, in it there is a part where he says something to the effect that ultimately the purpose of science is to describe the natural world.

My thanks to everyone involved in helping me find it again!

I think Lou is referring to the 30 days or so in July of '06 during which DaveTard stalked away from UD into JanieBell's virtual arms.

I hate to disappoint the church burnin’ ebola boys but I won’t be commenting on UD in the future. I just told the smarmy Canadian cross dresser to go fuck itself in an email. It would have banned me in any case as it’s nowhere near as cool as Bill Dembski. The stick up its disgusting ass could make a redwood feel inadequate. I’m going to go ahead and forgive Bill for this monumental brainfart as he’s going through some long term bad shit on the homefront with a sick child. I felt bad about bailing out on him at a time like this but he forced my hand. No big deal. I had a few extra hours today to finish rebuilding the carbs on my jetboat (it’s back together and running great) and throw a ball in the water for my puppy. He’s napping at my feet on the houseboat at the moment. I think we’ll go out for a swim and then take the jetboat for a longer validation run.

P.S. if my dog was as ugly as the Canadian cross dresser I’d shave his ass and teach him to walk backwards.

HAHAHA - I kill me sometimes!

duh.

There's some speculation on what's going over there now, Steve, but nothing concrete.  He's still posting, and occasionally comments at UD (still in white), but he's not been himself lately.

ETA:  He mostly posts on Global Climate Change denial lately, but really, I think what's missing is the sheer arrogance.
