There you have it. The Earth's atmosphere isn't part of the Earth. And all the trapped thermal energy gets "swept away" by the wind.

It's like he thinks CO₂ molecules are these little flat mirrors that have to be oriented in a certain direction so the infra-red photons bounce off at the perfect angle to warm the Earth's surface.

One funny thing is that the outgoing energy does - eventually - get "swept" away (i.e., photons escape), just slower than it would in the absence of greenhouse gas. Without such gases it would be lots colder here, and with lots more of them it would be hotter (which is kind of the point).

I'll never understand personalities like Joe. When I'm confronted by someone who obviously knows way more about a topic than I do, my response is to try to learn from them. Joe gets confronted by a herd of people who clearly understand more about evolution and global warming and his response is to lecture, insult, and temporarily disappear.

As support he offers a self-published paper by an AGW denier crackpot named Nasif Nahle whose only apparent "science" experience is in the field of herbal medicine.
