Mike Dunford's point by point debunking is class. Dave is probably comfort eating right now.

Tune in next week when Dave will try for a third time to make a post on UD about marines that he doesn't have to censor and close comments on.

GOOD LUCK CHEESYPOOF DAVE!

Mike

I knew I should have limited comments to just those who’ve served in my beloved corps. Frankly, if you haven’t served in the military yourself I don’t think you deserve an opinion. Put that in your bunched up panties and sit on them.

Oh how I'll laugh when BLipey twats him.

Well, it all has disappeared down the memory hole and comments have been shut off.  Here is the comment that got Dave all torqued.

I’ve been trying to cool off since I read this, but I think I’m as cool as I’m going to get:

Quote

In order to have an effective force in fighting guerilla and urban wars in Arab countries we need actual combat veterans seasoned in that type of warfare leading the unseasoned troops. Use your head, Jim. Now we have an effective force led by NCOs who know how to survive urban and guerilla wars in Arab countries. And Bush managed to build that force without losing 58,000 American lives as were sacrificed in Vietnam but rather limited the losses to 3,000. Use your head for something other than a place to put your hat, Jim. We needed a veteran ground combat force for the Middle Eastern theater. Now we have one. Now what happened to Russia in Afghanistan won’t happen to us.

OK. My wife’s in the box right now, and you’re suggesting that having troops out there is good because it gives us a better combat force? A lot of people have said a lot of really thoughtless and assinine things about the Iraq war, but that one just takes the cake. It’s dumb so many different ways that it’s really, really hard to figure out where to start.

1) Even if I assume, for the sake of argument, that everything else is correct, we were already involved in a guerilla war when the Iraq war started. Believe it or not, but there really are troops in Afghanistan, and they are really - still - involved in regular and frequent combat ops. There just aren’t as many of them and they aren’t getting blown up as frequently. Actually, I’ve heard from quite a few people who have been deployed in both locations (including my wife) that they saw much more combat in Afghanistan than in Iraq.

2) When we started this war, as you point out, there weren’t a lot of combat veterans in the force. Strangely, that didn’t seem to have much of an adverse effect on how they did at the start.

3) A #### of a lot of the troops over there right now are 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th tour vets. Yet there doesn’t seem to have been much of an increase in success, and certainly not much of a decrease in casualties, after the point when combat vets became common in deploying units.

4) The force right now is in a #### of a lot worse shape than it was three years ago. Pretty much everyone in the army who is career combat arms and enlisted prior to 03 has gone out more than once already. Many (particularly in the aviation community) are on 3rd or 4th tours. Divorce rates are up, and a lot of good people who ordinarily would have stayed in for 20+ are getting out with 15 or more years in - sacrificing pensions - because their marriages will be destroyed if they have to go out yet again. That’s why we’ve seen active duty 4-stars out in front of congress recently, begging for more troops and warning about long-term problems.

So try using your own head, would you?

EDIT: Added attribution.

Splendid catch. I'm sure DT will not be happy to see that this was preserved for posterity despite his best efforts. :p

Maybe Dave will learn something from this experience, but I, uh, kinda doubt it.
???

PS: Dave was using his own head. That's the whole problem.

Seriously, I realize there is no single person with such responsibility. I trust the point of this rhetorical question is understood, nonetheless.

One of the hilarious things about Davetard's little hissy is, Mike Dunford is a popular blogger. Expect him to post about this.

I just noticed that on the right hand side of UD, you've got this:

ID the future
ID Superblog

Describing IDtheFuture as a Superblog is like putting together Milli Vanilli, Cake, Billy Ray Cyrus, Ashley Simpson, Nelson, and Vanilla Ice, and calling it a Supergroup.

You could maybe get Vanilla-vanilli Ice Cake, which sounds scrummy, from your collection.

On this it's good to find someone who agrees with me. Most of my friends seem to like the band, or think it's creative to make songs that sound exceptionally bad. I recently played a poker night with Cake in the background the whole time, which would have been absolutely painful if I hadn't won the thing.

Yeah, basically everyone I know likes the band. Maybe they're capable of tuning out the lead singer talker and listening to the other sounds, and I'm just not, I don't know.

Huh. Maybe that's what it is. Because I honestly don't know how it could be exceeded. If I were charged with recording vocals which had to sound worse than Cake's, I think I would put my cat in front of the microphone and start poking her with a fork. I'm not even sure that would do the job.

I'm confused. ID can't do research because anyone who 'comes out in support of ID' will be bullied and or ruin their career. But here is a list of hundreds of scientists who question evolution. Thats a very similar kind of logic to 'Darwinists stop ID getting published here are a load of published  papers that support ID'.

In any case if you want to do research 700 scientists is more than enough to be getting on with I would have thought.

A Republican Combat veteran says: "DaveTard is an idiot"
Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel is angry. He's upset about the more than 1,700 U.S. soldiers killed and nearly 13,000 wounded in Iraq. He's also aggravated by the continued string of sunny assessments from the Bush administration, such as Vice President Dick Cheney's recent remark that the insurgency is in its "last throes." "Things aren't getting better; they're getting worse. The White House is completely disconnected from reality," Hagel tells U.S. News. "It's like they're just making it up as they go along. The reality is that we're losing in Iraq." http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/050627/27bush.htm

"Senate Committee Votes Against Bush's Troop Surge In Iraq"

I don’t think we’ve ever had a coherent strategy,” Hagel said. “There is no plan.”
“This is a ping-pong game with American lives,” said Hagel, a decorated veteran who was wounded several times while serving as a noncom in the Vietnam war.
Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska aligned with committee Democrats, criticized the President's plan, saying an increase in U.S. troops is "not in the national interest.''
The Senate hearing room was virtually silent during Hagel’s impassioned remarks.
“These young men and women that we put in Anbar province, in Iraq, in Baghdad are not beans,” he said. “They’re real lives. And we better be #### sure we know what we're doing, all of us, before we put 22,000 more Americans into that grinder."

Unlike DavescotTard, Hagel actually served in combat.

Apparently his team have to supress fits of laughter in front of the mugs he lines up, on a regular basis.

The thing that gets me is why his targets are not bursting out in fits of laughter...they must have to deal with some seriously deluded tard as though it is normal.

Experts frequently have to endure idiocy. Maybe that predisposes them to take apparent idiocy at face value. For example, the guy who taught my PY341 class (Intro to Thermo) at one point bitched out the department secretary for sending all the crackpots his way. He was irritated that every week he had some nutcase on the phone or in his mailbox explaining how to build free-energy devices that would revolutionize the universe and overthrow all the current paradigms. Much like the Intelligent Design nuts. The department secretary told him he wasn't special-- there were lots of nuts, and she was distributing them equally around the physics faculty.

I realize this is very off-topic, and if a discussion breaks out on it, I think it would be best moved to the bathroom wall, but since it came up in this thread I'll tempt fate by adding it here:

Some politician this weekend had an interesting response to the whole 'Isn't your criticism of the president's strategy giving aid and comfort to the enemy?' nonsense. His reply, paraphrased, was, 'If we were sending our troops into battle with defective rifles, of course I would be required to speak out against that. So how is sending our troops into battle with a defective strategy any different?'

I don't remember who it was, it might have been Hagel, but whoever it was, it was brilliant.

I just know DaveTard reads the thread and I wanted to rub his nose in the ....ummm...ridiculous crap he posted at UD. Actual war veterans don't seem to necessarily agree with "never-seen-combat" DaveScotardSpringer.

Davetard is a good example of people glomming onto whatever 'arguments' they think will support their conclusion. He would never extend that 'logic' to say, for instance, that to have a valid opinion of biology you ought to be a biologist.
