|Aves are a Class, Amphibia is a Class and Reptilia is a Class under Linnaean taxonomy|
Reptilia and Amphibia are two separate Classes
Carl's original work had amphibia as a class, with reptiles as part of that class. You should look up the history of the science you talk about.
Even so, by your change to Carl's original work (which, admittedly it a slightly more modern version), Aves and Reptilia are the same rank.
The problem, of course, is that birds (aves) are a subgroup of dinosaurs and dinosaurs are a subgroup of reptiles.
Class - subgroup - subgroup
Reptilia - dinosaur - aves
Linneaen taxonomy, however you slice it, has aves at the same rank as reptilia. But aves is a subgroup of a subgroup of reptilia. This, by your own definitions, it cannot be a true nested hierarchy.
I find it unlikely that many authors consider this when writing about it. Nevertheless, it is true.
That's why no one uses Carl's Taxonomy anymore. It's fundamentally flawed.
The modern versions of Linneaen taxonomy are based on evolution. Not Carl's original idea.
I've said this now, 3 times. I doubt you'll get it. History shows it's not likely.
Fuck you, Kevin. Amphibia, Aves and Reptilia are all separate Classes. Look it up.
Only untestable bullshit puts Aves with reptiles and dinosaurs.
|Most of us are accustomed to the Linnaean system of classification that assigns every organism a kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species, which, among other possibilities, has the handy mnemonic King Philip Came Over For Good Soup. This system was created long before scientists understood that organisms evolved. Because the Linnaean system is not based on evolution, most biologists are switching to a classification system that reflects the organisms' evolutionary history.|
