I doubt that anything will change for the better though because most of you here only seem to care about promoting your religious/cultural’/political viewpoints.

Since ID appears incapable of separating itself from its founding religion, I have to agree with you.

Jul3s, pardon some observations. UD is not solely about strictly scientific topics and while indeed we often look at science and tech news and will do more of that as time goes on there are other relevant topics.

Pardon an observation. Over 80% of traffic at UD over the last thirty days have had absolutely nothing to do with science or ID.

I never said that Aristotle = reason or vice versa.

Then what did you mean by this, when the only “reason” I’ve spoken against is faith in the teachings of Aristotle?
Quote

your obvious disdain for reason prevents you from making critical distinctions… The bible tells us to use our reason, but you ignore the point because for some reason you think reason is the enemy of scripture

When you said that I reject reason, were you referring to my rejection of Aristotle or not? If you implied that I rejected reason outright, you were being dishonest then. If you were referring to my rejection of Aristotle you’re being dishonest now.

This thread is becoming surreal. OldAndrew chastises them for talking too much about religion and scriptures, and then drags them into drawn-out discussion on religion and scriptures.

KF and SB can't see the bait for the hook in their mouths.

I've never found a gathering of fools funnier than UD. They're like the 3 stooges wearing lab coats.

Barry is obviously the bully Moe. And KF could fit into the know-it-all Larry role. And WJM....

Wait just a minute. We are going to run out of Stooges.

DiEb, you continue, sadly. I note for record, that it is fairly clear that Internet statistics are a high noise environment. By 2012, relevant dominance of segments had happened, and as a result UD was in the top 1% of sites. Nothing existential or changing the rules has happened since then and the basic pattern is robust. This is nothing to do with “fake but accurate” biased news talking points. The relevant TANG case there was a demonstrable fraud — superposing the alleged letter with a doc prepared using Word on a Mac gives a match where relevant typography did not exist in the early-mid ’70’s — in the context of a wider slander: fighter jets of the Century series in the relevant era [F102] had quite high crash and fatality rates and routinely flew in effect nuke war CAP, Texas etc being near to Cuba. Likewise, the mere fact of passing tests to be trained as a fighter pilot has several implications including IQ 120+. By speaking to this you are apparently still pushing the idea of a bogus — fraudulent — rating scheme. I do not see good reason to concur with that, as I already pointed out. KF

The decision about which books qualify as scripture and which ones do was made in the 4th century. How do you suppose that decision was made?

Do you worship a God who can create life but can’t ensure that a few dozen books he inspired can’t be kept intact and separated from the ones he didn’t? You’re right, that’s way too hard for God. Maybe he should have asked Aristotle for help.

Memogate was perhaps the proudest moment for right-wing grassroot internet warriors of the early 2000s - the alt-right before there was an alt-right.

It was certainly one defining moment in the development which lead to the "fake media" frenzy of today.

"Fake, but accurate" triggers the memories for them, so it is doubly outrageous when opponents bring up the meme to make a point.

Well, save to say, I had more fun on the thread than he had - it is always a warning sign when he stops to use paragraphs...

But I think that my main point stands: there are two equally true narratives which describe the whole thread:

Quote
1. In a post in January 2017, KF showed that the website UncommonDescent.com belonged to the top 1% of the most popular sites of the web. This was proved by using data from rating.com, and in subsequent comments by data from alexa.

Quote
2. In January 2017, KF claimed that UncommonDescent.com belonged to the 100,000 most popular sites on the web (“something in the 80,000’s”). Later data from alexa showed that UD’s ranking is much lower – in the 600,000’s! He came up with the flattering ranking by using outdated material from a website called ranking.com, an organization which promulgated malware according to McAffee and other virus scanners, but which was classified by KF as “a legitimate and longstanding corporation”. Though KF later found out that his data was years out of date, he never corrected his original post.

KF added only material to support the first narrative, but added nothing to disprove the second one. He could have done so by throwing out the rankings from ranking.com, but that meant that he had to admit that he was duped (by a website which seems to want to dupe its visitors).

He also ignored the fact that the web site godhatesfags.com was twice as popular as UD using Rankings.com.

That's not a problem, as GOD HATE FAGS - just ask Mike Pence....

As does KF.

It is so much fun getting him wound up. Unfortunately, it usually ends up in me burning a sock. But I have several in the works that KF hasn’t figured out yet.

Cue the KF witch hunt for agit-prop, atheist-materialist, nihilist, strawman erecting, red herring milking, fellow travelers of my ilk over at UD.
