KF: "JS, while I accept your apology, I must remind you that I derive from a nation and region who in the main come from survivors of a holocaust of genocidal scope acknowledged in recent years as a crime against humanity: the slave trade."

Smith: "Are you seriously measuring holocaust [SNIP, language] here? Are you even aware that your ancestors and mine share the same persecutors? Christians of European descent."

THREAD OWNER: JS, You here show the depth of your problem. Please, take some time out to reflect on your behaviour in this thread and elsewhere. Perhaps, too, it has not registered that in my homeland, the gospel and Christian faith as well as church leaders — some of them martyrs — served as a liberating force. One of those martyrs was a leading member of my family, whose name now stands above the door of my homeland’s House of Parliament, a name which I personally hold through family naming tradition. Where, too, if anything is historically certain, it is that those men who carried out the chattel slavery trade and the Nazi holocaust were not acting in accord with the core teachings and general principles of gospel ethics. Indeed, I think someone recently reminded us here at UD that the Christian Church was in fact on Herr Schicklegruber’s target list. In which context it is worth noting as a further point of responsible balance, that in the land at ground zero of the holocaust, Poland, there were five million victims, half of the holocaust of Jews, and the other two million being Christians. Russia of course suffered 20 – 30 million deaths, only about 5 million of which were on the battlefield and it has been discovered that there was a plan to starve the Ukrainian people as a whole to death. Heine, who (a full century in advance) warned against the trends of anti-Christian thought and ideology that would ultimately end in such a horror, was in fact a Christian of Jewish ethnicity. The story is far more subtle and complex than you have suggested. Solzhenitsyn rightly said that the line between good and evil passes, not between classes, races and nations but right through the individual human heart. That is why it is vital for us to restore sound moral government starting with plumb-line self evident moral truths and then going on to objective principles of sound moral thought that would inter alia stop the ongoing holocaust of posterity in the womb. The issue which has stirred you to now repeated over-wrought and ill-advised comment. Please, take time out and reconsider. GEM of TKI.

ET Wow, what a tarded attempt at minimalizing human life. Look every person who has ever lived had to go through that stage of life. Without that stage there wouldn’t have been a holocaust nor slavery.
And everybody who has ever lived will go through the stage of death. And your point is?

KF (with the help of Dionisio) gloats: Uncommon Descent ranked well within the top 1% of web sites

https://uncommondescent.com/media......b-sites

The problem:

“ranking.com” seems to be a very fishy organization: if you look at their “data explained” section, you find out that they use 215,000 net surfer who have installed their “marketing tool”. Their claim that “hundreds of participants are added daily” is obviously false, as the name of their “marketing tool” is

BrowserAccelerator

and its website informs you that “BrowserAccelerator.com is no longer in service”….

In their section “How accurate are the Ranking.com results?” they describe that their results are not accurate at all, but

Quote
Ranking.com does not publish the actual traffic metrics to a website but rather the relative popularity ranking of domains in relation to all the websites visited by the sample group.

This “sample group” consists of people who were willing to install something called “BrowserAccelerator” and to hand over their whole internet history. One can only hope that this group is not representative for internet users at all!

It is even worse: According to the wayback machine, “BrowserAccelerator” is defunct since the end of 2015. So, either “ranking.com” presents data which is at least two years old, or the “monthly updated” information is taken from legacy users of the “browser accelerator toolbar”.

This group is hopefully shrinking quickly, as in 2015, we are informed

Quote
BrowserAccelerator is currently compatible with Internet Explorer 5.0+. It is not compatible with: Netscape, AOL, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, SmartFox, Enigma or any other browser . If you are using an ISP such as EarthLink, AOL, Juno/NetZero, etc, you may use any browser you choose once you are connected to the internet. BrowserAccelerator is also not compatible with Mac computers.

I wonder how closely Dionesio looked at his numbers:
Quote
Evolutionnews.org 58,755
Jamesmacdonald.com 60,164
Reasons.org 65,259
Uncommondescent.com 80,763
Pandasthumb.org 106,377
Kodugamelab.com 668,032
So Evolution News and Uncommon Descent both trail after Panda's Thumb, which is barely ticking over, and both utterly trail Kodugamelab.com, which appears to be an obscure game site, perhaps one beloved by users of Internet Explorer 5.0+.

I'm impressed!

In this ranking, the lower the number, the more popular it is.But Uncommon Descent, at 80,763 does rank lower than Godhatesfags.com at 43,390.

This graph shows the number of comments per thread vs. the number of commentators at UD in 2017. The axes are logarithmic.

Guess who contributes to the outliers... I should not call them monologues, as Dionisio calls this a "gross misunderstanding of a very basic term" and advised me to "watch out how to use words correctly in your comment". So, I proposed the term "threads that are data repositories virtually exclusively maintained by Dionisio".

But... but... but... That would imply that Answers in Genesis, ICR, Religion News, Samaritan's Purse  and Truth for Life are all beating Evolution News which in turn is beating Uncommon Descent.

I thought Dionesio was bragging.  My mistake.

Probably because for morality to be objective, then some person or group has to decide what that morality is, and other persons or groups are apt to disagree with those decisions.

Come to think of it, that is independent of whether a person is a theist or an atheist.

OK. Who thought it was a good idea to mention Barry and sloppy seconds in the same sentence?

Answer:

“Because, ‘objective’ morality doesn’t change with time, culture, or religious interpretation of dodgey texts.”

It is inculcated, and does not change, very bad for human advancement; when slavery was ok the Jews/Christians/Muslims, cheered!

Subjective morality is malleable, evolves with human culture, and is not bonded to strict scriptural interpretation. Thus, making it perfectly in sinc with the idea of evolution!

Why Barry? The same tired old non-questions?

Sad news: Richard B. Hoppe, who used to post as RBH, has died of cancer.  I'm not sure if he posted here, but he was a frequent contributer to ARN and other sites and he was an excellent and knowledgeable writer.  He will be badly missed.

Details are at The Panda's Thumb.

As I already said, the only topic relevant here apart from the science is the fact that many people have an anti-design bias. Pointing out that people’s worldviews are biased against the best explanation is enough. Yes, detractors talk about religion as a way of attacking ID, but you do not need to take the bait. If they talk about the philosophical or cultural implications of ID, you can simply say “too bad. I follow the evidence, implications be damned”. Sadly, you don’t.

Your mission in life can be to promote your worldview, I understand that. But using this site to argue with OA, claiming that since he rejects the idea that Aristotle is right and/or relevant to salvation, he therefore rejects reason is ridiculous. You are inviting readers to believe that ID is inseparable from a religious/cultural/political worldview and agenda. So if any visitor doesn’t align with you politically, you are giving them a great excuse to just ignore everything you say on the grounds that you are biased and that ID is therefore not legitimate. You openly admit that you use ID to further a cultural agenda. Regardless of what that agenda is, this undermines the dispassionate objectivity of ID. Can’t you see the damage you’re doing? No wonder you people get called creationists in cheap tuxedos.

You people are frankly a disgrace. Not because of your beliefs but because you can’t help but display your beliefs in a setting which puts people off unless they already agree with you.

This is a sad state of affairs. I think eventually ID will win but despite your efforts, not because of them.

I have a challenge for UD. For an entire month, all posted stories can only be about the results of scientific studies. Does ID have enough scientific and emperical substance to it to go that long without promoting a certain culture? I am certain that it does, but I am equally certain that you won’t be able to resist going off on some tangent about “human exceptionalism” and “objective morality” for more than 5 minutes.

The decision about which books qualify as scripture and which ones do was made in the 4th century. How do you suppose that decision was made?

Do you worship a God who can create life but can’t ensure that a few dozen books he inspired can’t be kept intact and separated from the ones he didn’t? You’re right, that’s way too hard for God. Maybe he should have asked Aristotle for help.
