ID is as ready as chance & necessity. Maybe more. We can at least prove that intelligent agents can cause complex specified information to appear where none existed before.

Look at it like a murder case where we need to show means and opportunity.

Chance & necessity - we can show opportunity but not means. In other words, we can place the alleded perpetrator at the scene of the crime but we can’t prove it had the means to commit the crime.

Intelligent design - we can means but not opportunity. In other words, we can show that intelligent designers can cause highly improbable specified changes to heritable genetic material but we can’t prove the perpetrator was at the scene of the crime.

As far as I’m concerned that puts chance & necessity and intelligent design on equal footing. Preferring one over the other is a matter of dogma not science.

Plus the assertion that for a scientific theory to be falsified requires a replacement theory is a dog that doesn’t hunt. That is not part of any philosophy of science that I ever heard of. It’s a lame assertion made by chance worshippers and nothing more.

When I first started reading this, I thought, "how long til Dave uses his buzzword 'chance worshipper'?" I was not disappointed.

Ah, Dave uses one of his homespun Texanisms. Looks like we're heading toward a trifecta here. How long til he says "mud to man"?

I'm curious about motives. What was the perp's motive for making all the cool disease organisms? Not just making them, but also providing them with the foresight™ with which to modify themselves in response to human attempts to evade their horrors.

This guy says it far more eloquently than me.

.......ID is often referred to as Creationism light. In fact it's more Creationism in drag. Though its proponents claim scientific neutrality, they are usually overtly religious people affiliated with overtly religious institutions. They have written essays and books about why ID is science. And yet when all the sophistry is boiled down, the theory amounts to "living things are complicated. Some-one must have made them."

John Moore, from The National Pest, reviews Expelled:

Dave Tard is a deeply insecure boy, he knows that if he makes a pact with his "god" ....who happens to be just like him, a dishonest creep but.... oh ....so ..nice... to..true..believers then there is a chance .....NO necessity of him being saved from all his bastardry.

The Question Beggers circular arguement

So what about that burglar in Germany who left his cell phone at the house he broke into then went back and asked the owner for it back or the equally intelligent crim who was handcuffed by police who had just arrested him but managed to free himself then ran into a police station asking for them to be removed?
OK most crims aren't that stupid but they can't break the law of cause and effect...<snicker>

Dave you have to acknowledge equating a crime scene with some plainly stupid dishonest characters who hope to escape detection doesn't show a great deal of character for you or your 'god' or your projected version of him. Your god must be a despicable character all he had to do was come clean and put a monolith in DNA.

INDEED GOD IS THE WORLDS BESTEST MASTER CRIMINAL HE GOT AWAY WITH THE CRIME OF THE UNIVERSE and WE CAN'T PROVE HE DID IT even though THE EVIDENCE IS LIFE ITSELF. dt

Pav Notes
Quote
This is a typical result of evolutionary algorithm…..and, as they point out, this is NOT how an engineer would build such a network. The “pared down” version, however, is what you would expect an engineer/designer to come up with, and, I rather strongly suspect, is the type of network that biological experimenters come up with when they start examining organisms for such genetic networks. Bottom-line: networks aren’t the product of chance.

Will somebody put him out of his misery and let him know the bad news?

It seems to me that there's a chance for a "conversion" to reality here for PaV.

Thomas Cudsworthy chews his worthy cud, and clarifies things:

Quote
...TEs could say:  “Well, we are Christians, so of course we believe that these apparently chance events were divinely foreordained and therefore are not ultimately chance events.  Our goal is not to deny the ultimate agency of God, but only to establish that the design of living things, though certainly in the mind of God at the beginning of the world’s creation, is not humanly DETECTABLE, as the ID proponents say it is....

Given this argument, both ID and TE acknowledge that living creatures are in fact designed by God and brought into being exactly in accord with God’s will.  The difference that remains between TE and ID is not over metaphysics but over epistemology, i.e., over the question:  How do we KNOW that the flagellum or the wing of a bird or the circulatory system is a consequence of design rather than chance?

This must be a tremendous relief. SHOUT it from the ROOFTOPS boys!

"ID ARGUES THAT LIVING CREATURES ARE DESIGNED AND BROUGHT INTO BEING EXACTLY IN ACCORD WITH GOD'S WILL!!"

Now, don'tcha feel better?

Jesus God Joel Borofsky is dumber than stupid.

Long story made short:  evilutionists can't extract an ethic from scientific knowledge.

Really, that is what he is on about.

In other news, creationist lies, whoremonglers whoremongle, fish swim and somewhere a baby has a shitty diaper.

Check out these arguments from those silly naturalists...

Quote
Naturalist Argument #1 – “This planet is the only one we have, therefore we need to do our best to protect it.”

Naturalist Argument #2 – “In order to sustain the human species, it is in our best interest to save the environment.”

Naturalist Argument #3 – “Since we all share a common ancestor, it makes sense to help our fellow creatures since we are all distant relatives.”

Quote
Some naturalistic ethicists have stated that all creatures are related and therefore all deserve equal rights, equal treatment, and equal protection (think of PETA). This view, though, simply doesn’t follow from a naturalistic perspective. We do not see this behavior in nature, thus it cannot be observed or proven scientifically.

Erm, what behavior?  WTF.

Joel needs to go back to what he's best at, and what we oldtimers remember him most fondly for, i.e., obsessing on the Biblical implications of the sexual habits of teenaged girls.

I think what Joel is saying is that while Judeo-Christian ID provides an adequate foundation for environmentalism, Fundies are exercising their free will by rejecting environmentalism. It's all good.

So why is Joel specifying "Judeo-Christian ID"? Just to make sure that we don't mix up the good stuff with Islamic or Atheist ID?

I'm not sure where to find the posts, but from about 20 minutes of trying to search within ATBC, most of the posts detailing Joel's fixation on the sexual proclivities of unsaved teenaged girls would appear to be within this thread, probably no later than early '07. If you're at work maybe you can spare the 1-2 hours it'd probably take to track them down.  ;)

Ha!  You nailed it!  I have barely recovered from the last time.   All praise to Poachy for keyboarding in the Full HazMat Jacket for so long.

Maybe we could do some recruiting at Schizo's Are Us Blog?  Seems like they might have been selected designed for it.

I must admit, UD has been poor entertainment of late.

Sadly true, which is why I started commenting at Telic Thoughts again (as 'robin').

In my brief tenure there (I've been banned), I mined a few good tard seams:

ID and Morality:
Watch as good, upstanding Christians defend the morality of Bible verses such as these:
Quote
If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.
(Deuteronomy 25:11-12, NIV)

Quote
If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.
(Exodus 21:20-21, NIV)

Trained Microbes!:
Joy gloats over a paper in Science:
Quote
Yeah, I know I'm being smug here. I've had a bit of a rough spring out in the real world, so it feels pretty good to 'win' something for a change... So, Culture Warriors. What say you about this evidence of intelligent design in life and evolution? Is this science? Should the researchers be expelled from academia for heresy? Should the journal Science be taken to task and forced to issue a retraction?

...until Raevmo and I point out what the paper actually says, and Joy stops gloating and decides that the authors are dogmatic Darwinists after all.

Evidence and Truth:
Mike Gene explains why evidence is overrated.

Speak Your Mind:
I accept the invitation and speak my mind regarding Salvador Cordova's behavior in the blogosphere, asking TTers whether they approve of it.  None of the ID supporters can bring themselves to express approval -- or disapproval.  Except for DaveScot, who says he disapproves of the quotemining but approves of the way Sal "bends over backwards trying not to offend anyone"!

To make Sal feel better, Bradford offers this:
Quote
Salvador, you're not Attila the Hun and I've witnessed much, much worse on the web and in person during my life.

Long-time tardaholics know that it is good to have a back-up supply in case your primary source runs dry.  Telic Thoughts will never match the pure, uncut tard at UD, but it's better than withdrawal.
