Still blocked at Uncommon Descent.

Quote
Oog the caveman thinks Saber Toothed tigers are fun to play with. But he also thinks the best way to play with tigers is to run and hide. Both ideas are contrary to reality. But in combination they result in his survival. Oog is fit under Darwinism’s definition of fit.

The belief doesn't scale. Encounters with all sorts of other creatures will quickly result in Oog learning that long teeth are dangerous. He sees the tiger eating someone from his tribe or family. He sees other predators hunting and killing their prey. He remembers being bitten by a wild canine, and only just escaping.

On the other hand, it is certainly true that people develop mythological beliefs, such as that every object in nature has a spirit. However, these beliefs are not always maladaptive, such as when they encapsulate some wisdom about these objects (e.g. volcanoes get angry unpredictably).

And how much of this is true of you Barry? You two-bit piece of shit bankruptcy lawyer with awful reviews on BBB? How much better could your career be if your map of reality matched reality? Ya fucking wanker.

UD link, but not for long.
I wouldn't blame Barry for deleting it, but it's fun to see it there in the meantime.

Here's the Dembski one star review:

Prometheus Press is one of the most militantly atheistic and ideologically driven presses around. And yet it purports that the following description of the book represents an unbiased assessment of Perakh's work: "This thoughtful and incisive critique from a veteran scientist genuinely concerned about the integrity of the scientific enterprise wastes no diplomacy on those who would see its purpose twisted to ideological ends." If there are ideological ends on the intelligent design side, there are no less ideological ends on the anti-design side, for which Perakh has now become a champion. Perakh's analyses of Behe, Johnson, and Dembski are in each instance defective. If simply by reading Perakh, you think he has decisively demolished intelligent design, you need to read the primary literature. Especially recommended here are John Campbell and Steve Meyer's _Darwinism, Design, and Public Education_ as well as Dembski's _The Design Revolution_, which answers many of Perakh's concerns.

 What a crushing rejoinder.

It looks like now he's at least bought the book.  Wonder if he's read it?

It was "Reader from Reisel".  It's a small town in Texas.  Dembski wrote the review of his own book on a Canadian branch of Amazon and they exposed his true name.

Googling for      dembski reader from riesel

finds this: http://scienceblogs.com/deltoid....dembski

and this: https://pandasthumb.org/archive....as.html

Ah, thanks! That was it. Now wonder "reader from Waco" didn't get anything. Was Waco where Dembski had his hotdog stand?

ETA: Ah, it was both Riesel AND Waco...

It was Waco where the would let him the cafeteria. ;)

Dembski visited the cafeteria at Baylor in Waco, but had his domicile in Riesel.

When Dembski was withdrawn as a witness from the Kitzmiller case in 2005 on a Friday, there was no deposition for me to attend in Texas the following Monday. But I had already arranged speaking engagements at Baylor in Waco, North Texas Skeptics in Dallas, and TWU in Denton, so I went to Texas anyway. After my talk at Baylor, I drove down to Riesel and visited the "Intelligent Design" BBQ stand. Unfortunately, the schedule of operation was quite restricted, and did not extend to early-in-the-week afternoons.

Did you hear furtive whispering behind the door asking "Is he gone yet?"  Perhaps a puddle spreading out through the crack underneath?

I don't know if I understand this correctly: Is O'Leary denying evolution and claiming design when the paper she cites says (maybe not explicitly) that designing vaccines is defeated by processes which contribute to evolution?
Quote
Darwinism vs science: Even flu bugs are complex
September 23, 2017 Posted by News under Cell biology, Intelligent Design, Medicin

Further to why flu vaccines so often fail, from Jon Cohen at Science, on efforts to find out wy the flu vaccine is so “lackluster”(10% to 60& protection):
Quote
They’re questioning what was once received wisdom: that the vaccine fails when manufacturers, working months ahead of flu season, incorrectly guess which strains will end up spreading. And they’re learning instead that the vaccine may falter even when the right strains were used to make it, perhaps because of how it is produced or quirks of individual immune systems. “It’s much more complicated than we thought,” Osterholm says. “I know less about influenza today than I did 10 years ago.”

...

Danuta Skowronski, an epidemiologist at the BC Centre for Disease Control in Vancouver, Canada, instead blames mutations in the vaccine strain itself. The most common influenza vaccine contains an “inactivated” virus, which manufacturers grow in chicken eggs. As Skowronski’s team first reported in 2014, the virus can mutate while it is growing in the eggs, resulting in a vaccine unable to block circulating strains. More.

If we are on the wrong track, knowing less than we did ten years ago is a sign of progress.

Note re “lackluster”: Only so many viruses that can be safely loaded into one vaccination. What can go wrong for a retirement home, for example, is that the virus that puts the place on lockdown was not included in the annual vax.

She doesn't explain quite how this is so, but it must be right because she's quoting the great philosopher-scientist Denyse O'Leary from the pages of that prestigious science journal, Evolution News and Views.

Read it and weep, materialist skeptics!

To be fair, Denyse is certainly a data point in favor of humans not having minds.  UD contains several more.

If it's only a single sentence, that really unfair to KF.  He doesn't get really would up until word 7,000 or so.

Why, isn't the natural kind sufficient? :p

After all, only two things are infinite: the universe, and human stupidity, and a really smart guy wasn't sure about the former.

Has anybody noticed KF's silence on the latest mass shooting in the US? I guess when a terrorist attack isn't conducted by Islamic jihadists, it doesn't fit into his lemmings over the cliff narrative.

Denyse's mind is strange:
Quote
Case in point: Theistic evolutionists who doubt Adam and Eve typically insist that the entire human race could not have descended from a single couple. Well, if they see a problem with that, do they not see a problem with all life descending from a single primordial cell?

Because Adam and Eve are supposed to have lived about 6 thousand ( with a "t") years ago while the first cells lived about 3.8 billion (with a "b") years ago?

But why bother with inconvenient facts when you're on a roll?
