The day we could see our history dynamically.

Just look. Mess with it. Set a timer though.

mess with the settings. It will blow your mind.

I seriously think this is the dawn of a total change in opur evolution. Our history will be a narrative, viewable and judged at a moment's notice.

Search for things that change and mess with the resolution. Year decade month week etc.

You will see some crazy patterns.

I'm gonna have to get rid of my computer probably but I'm gonna go back and take one more hit. I can handle it.

You'd think that Google would be able to manage to reliably present the contents of Usenet newsgroups given that sort of thing. They bought Dejavu and gutted it, then managed to drop whole swaths of talk.origins postings.

Ouch. Well. They got this one right. It's still in labs but have you checked it out?

It looks like a useful tool. Somebody should suggest that they do a Usenet Timeline, too.

:) Do you want to talk about these issues that have been troubling you?

On a serious note, do you know they aren't?

I was participating on Usenet from about 1991 up until I needed to concentrate on getting my dissertation done. I don't have an exact count, but there's likely 6,000 or more of my posts that could be available there if the data were treated as if it were a useful resource instead of an after-thought. Yeah, I'm less than thrilled. I think I have some cause. Deja got it; Google does not.

I don't know about the cool stuff that is happening at Area 51, either, therefore extraterrestrial embassies are coming next year?

By past experience, the folks at Google do not value their Usenet data holdings. I think I need to see evidence of a change in that before I lapse into optimistic complacency.

Like I said, what they are doing with the news data looks useful. That doesn't mean that they can't be reminded to do better with other data.
