So now the pope supports intelligent design in the large?

Who gives a sh*t?

Who gives a sh*t?

actually, that's a much less flippant question than it would appear on the surface.

the answer to it would say volumes, i think.

This business of "the designer isn't the Christian god" is going well, isn't it?

Nope. And I bet there was a collective grinding of teeth at the DI when Pat Robertson made his recent comments.

In all fairness, if there is one person in the world who is allowed to be a creationist, it's the Pope.

From what I understand, most people are interpreting the Pope's remarks to be more similar to a theistic evolution viewpoint.

Meh, this is the same organization that took almost a half-millenium to apologize for their treatment of Galilleo, I don't think that anyone actually looks to the Catholic Church for scientific advancement.

well, not any more anyway.

there was a time when the catholic church was the primary repository of scientific information in the world, but that was, er, several hundred years ago by my reckoning.

There was also a time when the Middle-East was one of the major centers of scientific learning in the world, especially for astronomers.

For that matter, there was a time when America was a shining beacon of freedom for the rest of the world as well.  Amazing how times change.
