We've got over a hundred people here with science degrees who like to chat about scientific and technical topics. I've never had a blog because I have an interesting thing to say once in a blue moon. Others of you might be in the same boat. But maybe the answer is a large number of contributors? What do you guys think about doing a group blog? Maybe, say, most of the people with over 500 posts here would be invited to join the blog, and it would be hosted at Antievolution.org? Anybody interested in that?

Maybe a group blog, where the top dozen or so AtBC commenters are given authority to write blog articles on a blog at Antievolution.org. I want to hear ideas from you people about it.

You'd be invited. I would want a dozen or so people who are interested in writing more complex posts than the usual throwaway comments here. And I think there are a lot of people here with the occasional thing to say. There are complexities involved, but I'm just wondering at the moment if enough people are interested.

It started out with the idea (which apparently I had) that with all these smart people hanging around planning to create a website (TalkDesign) we could start a blog. PT did boom for a while, unfortunately at the cost of the TalkDesign project.  PT was arguably the better means to communicate the bogousity of IDC than another static website ala TalkOrigins which we had patterned the TalkDesign project on.  About the time I was going to suggest adding links and advertising, the Mirecki attack blew up, and there were several PT posters that were seduced by the $$ tit offered by Seed Magazine.   What have we learned? -------------- "Science is the horse that pulls the cart of philosophy." As Dr GH mentions PT is suffering/has suffered from some issues, bear this in mind when group blogs rear their heads! That aside, I'm in favour of contributing to a group blog with a given mission. Maybe not right away, but it's something I've been considering for a long old while. (I have thought about getting my own blog, but the blogosphere is already crammed with crap and I'm not sure I could offer anything new or useful) Louis -------------- Bye.

I assume it would also be open to much more than biology.  I have my own livejournal which I have mentioned before.  One or two of it's posts could be polished, increased in length and might suit a group blog on the general topic of science and its history. (At the moment I am interested in the history of science and metallurgy in the past 1,000 years.  I find it fascinating how we have narrowed down the scientific method and what is expected of it over the past 400 years or so, not to mention the tricky area of how science can become socially normative.  Also the formation of science from the 1100's to 1500's, when there were two strands of thought on primitive science, the more philosophical one and the technological one practised by ordinary craftsmen, whose knowledge was then partially appropriated in the 17th century.)

Steviepinhead Posts: 532 Joined: Jan. 2006 (Permalink) Posted: May 13 2007,18:38    Well, my only "science" degree is a 35 year old one in anthropology, though it did include a "concentration" in the cultural behavior of non-human primates, which does bear on evo/devo/creo matters to some limited extent. And my only "advanced" degree is, ahem, law.  But that's an area that also gets drug in by the cat (if only to be roundly abused by the likes of Larry Farfaroutman...). And I have no idea how many posts I have, since I've been wasting more of my time recently laughing at afdave over at dawkins.net. But, sure, what the hell.  Blogging beats working, any day...!

skeptic Posts: 1163 Joined: May 2006 (Permalink) Posted: May 13 2007,23:41    with all sincerity, would I be able to contribute?  I know I don't tow the party line here but I find the idea very interesting.  I've often thought of starting my own blog but I couldn't maintain enough content to make it worthwhile but as one of many contributors that would take care of itself.  I would even recommend, rather than a moderator, something akin to an editor.  Contributions could be submitted and evaluated just on a basic level of acceptability, in other words, strictly science and then the comments could discuss the actual content.  Nothing really heavy-handed, mind you, just enough oversight to keep this from getting into a flame fight.  That should preserve the focus and purpose of the blog. Listen to me, acting like I'd actually be involved, lol.  But, yes, I would definitely read it.  That's my vote.
