Does stupidity ever just piss you off?

One of the senseless stupidities of the internet is, organizations will put cartoons online at the same size they'd put them in print, or at low resolution, even when doing so makes the text illegible. This is incredibly stupid. They're only small in print because in print, size is money. Bigger sizes on the internet are free. Why does Slate bother to put Jeff Danziger cartoons online if you can't read them?

http://cartoonbox.slate.com/jeffdanziger/2007/08/09/

retards.

But I have never seen a worse example than this:

whoever put that online should be smacked in the mouth.

That Hitchens article mentions judge Jones. Reading over the wikipedia page on the trial, I see this item:

Quote
# Alan Bonsell testified. His testimony initially included a claim that he did not know where the money had been raised to donate sixty copies of Of Pandas and People to the school's library. On hearing that the money had been raised in William Buckingham's church, and directed through Bonsell's father so that it might be donated anonymously, Judge Jones elected to take over the examination of Bonsell himself, questioning him for about ten minutes.

I bet Bonsell was sweating like a whore in church.

Why on earth does anyone <b>CARE</b> that a few hard core crackpots will interpret the dismissal of a frivolous lawsuit as "oppression"?  Of course they will.  So what?

I care when a relatively sophisticated attempt is made to guide public education or public policy by denying or distorting science.  I don't care that delusional narcissists feel sorry for themselves.

Just look at this...

<blockquote>It couldn’t happen to a nicer Darwinian. PZ hates everybody - except Richard Dawkins.</blockquote>

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!  But if PZ could be sued for "slandering" Pivar, PZ could sue YOU for "slandering" him with this remark!  Can you "prove" that PZ Meyers "hates everyone"?  In fact, your remark is far more obnoxious and unfair than PZ's was.  I've almost never seen a better example of total lack of insight.

I'd say "grow up",  but it's obviously hopeless.

Hello to all my good friends at AtBC ... hope you don't mind if I scrawl a message to my IIDB friends here on your bathroom wall ... While the good folks at IIDB allow me to post pretty freely there (unlike some forums *cough*wesley*cough*), they don't like me criticizing other IIDB forum members, and there is one particularly biased moderator over there -- Wordtraveller -- who issues me infractions regularly for all kinds of bogus things ...

So ...

What I want to say is this ...

I want all good scientifically minded people at IIDB (and elsewhere) to be aware of my posting habits so that they can interact with me freely without interference from certain *cough* how shall we say this nicely? ... er ... more troublesome posters who all happen to reside in California (how fortuitous) -- Constant Mews, Occam's Aftershave, Eric Murphy, Deadman_932 -- to name a few.  Their posts are typically either laced with nastiness or are just very content free.  Three of them have very little regard for forum rules and typically continue their behavior even after being scolded by the mods.  Two of them got suspended from RD.net for continual outbursting.

So ... in order to avoid these folks, let me fill you in on a secret ... I generally post between 5 am and 9 am central ... hopefully before these folks get up out of bed!

Just thought you should know.

*****************************

Also ... I have recently opened my blog for comments at http://afdave.wordpress.com and will be trying to write daily articles.  I am adopting the same rules as IIDB and enforcing them strictly ... please read them.

why would you want to spend time criticizing other IIDB forum members when you have so many unanswered questions awaiting you?

everybody is already aware of your posting "habits".

If you have the same rules as IIDB why not post there instead?

Also, everybody, AFDave lost his debate at IIDB by something like 150 to 1 votes.

No wonder he wants to run away and hide.

When you say, "troublesome," Dave, I think what mean to say is that these people, included among them me, have a tendency to post messages that completely obliterate your arguments, over and over and over again, and after a while it makes you feel frustrated and put-upon.

But that's okay; that's how it's supposed to make you feel.

That, by the way, is a great photo -- it's of the Castle Romeo test shot at Bikini island in 1954, which detonated a prototype hydrogen bomb known as The Runt.  The Runt was a modification of The Shrimp.  The Shrimp was the first American hydrogen bomb to use solid fusion fuel (lithium-deuteride that had been enriched with lithium-6).  In The Runt, unenriched natural lithium was used instead.  The yeild, at around 11 megatons, was higher than expected.

It's such a photogenic shot that I picked a high-res version of it a couple months ago as the cover for a book I'm editing, titled "Hell's Fire: A Documentary History of the American Atomic and Thermonuclear Weapons Projects, From Hiroshima to the Cold War and the War on Terror".
