But he is a godsend to aluminum foil producers and on-line dictionaries. He recently used the word "antinomies". What a pretentious buffoon.

"Antinomy" is a perfectly good word which really deserves to be in wider use than it is. It means "a contradiction between two beliefs or conclusions that are in themselves reasonable".

I wouldn't put anything past those hydride metals. After all, how do you get Antimony out of SB, or Tin out of Sn?

Re "After all, how do you get Antimony out of SB, or Tin out of Sn?"

It's elementary.

Oh, and it's on the diagonal edge between metallic and non-metallic on the periodic table; sort of a a De-metallization zone.

I blame the Romans, myself. Their obsolete names for various elements hung on long enough that a lot of abbreviations were based on said obsolete names.

Aurum (gold), Au; Argentum (silver), Ag; Stannum (tin) Sn; Stibium (antimony), Sb; Hydrargyrum (mercury), Hg; and the list goes on…

Isn't the Queen a pseudo Canadian?

I think it's more that Canadians are pseudo-British.

Clive Anderson once utterly failed to get a laugh at the Montreal comedy festival by saying that he was Scottish, and he had noticed how many Scots had moved to Canada to avoid the cold weather and domination by a much larger country to the south.

That would have gone over like an antimony balloon. Kiwis have the same problem with aussies. He could have said they didn't want to go and live in the US becuase they loved the Monarchy as much as the Canadians....that might have been a bit too much for them though. Canadians are so easy to wind up. The worst thing you can call them is an American which gets a nice rise, my riposte is that they're North American and they sound 'aboot' the same. When Tony Abbott, Australia's previous  Prime Minister (actually deposed in an internecine bloodless coup) famous for Knighting an English Prince visited Canada, he had one of his public paroxysms and called the place Canadia!

No, you've perpetrated the usual confusion between the element and the class of compounds.

"silly cone" descibes how you feel when you wake up with a hangover and find that your friends have been tweeting photos of you partying while wearing nothing but a plastic traffic bollard.

Intelligent Design is undoubtedly an allotrope of elemental "silly con".

I regulaly visit TSZ, and I would say his article is more about the fact that over the years the number of writers who contribute here has significantly diminished, and those that do are prolific.

Now prolific can be good as in the case of Dickens, or Orwell, or it can be anoying as hell, as in the case of Hamm, or Ray Comfort.

This ‘starvation’ he suggests also includes the repliers, the posters of comments. These people are predictable in their regularity of authorship. The names never change, and with the recent loss of BA77, for whatever reason, a significant voice has once again been lost to the cause. (I hope BA77 is healthy, and still with the living.)

Also I think his ‘starvation’ metaphor includes counter voices. As largely it is only me, and Seversky who regularly turn up, it is not really adebate about ID, so much as a, ‘chat’, amongst acquiantances.

He also suggests posters such as myself and Seversky should abandon our contributions, as we are merely shoring up, an imminent collapse.

He also suggests that the ‘heavy hitters’, of ID Dembsky etc, have long since seen the writing on the wall.

I stick around for the fun of schadenfreud.

The OP is amusing, especially this line:

We had no idea we [UD] were that hard a habit to kick. Could we get rebranded as a social vice?

Yes, and the CBEBs are a help group for the afflicted.

What happened? UD is still here?

It appears, to paraphrase Mark Twain, “The rumors of UD’s death are greatly exaggerated.”

But I suppose if you keep announcing the death of something over and over and over… again and again and again… you are someday by pure luck you are going to get it right. Frankly, people with an obsession like that need to do something else, like get a life.

On e might ask how often evolution theory has been declared dead at UD since 2005?

Bob O'H: "...with the recent loss of BA77, for whatever reason, a significant voice has once again been lost to the cause. (I hope BA77 is healthy, and still with the living)."

He's still posting on Facebook as Phillip Cunningham as of about four hours ago.  I can't tell anything about his physical health from his postings, but mentally he's maintaining the same low standards.

I think he and Dense had some sort of hissing match about a year ago and he disappeared for a while.  He came back, but things just weren't the same.  I remember him getting rather aggressively pissy about criticism several times when people disagreed with him and then he was gone.

We could probably figure out when he left by looking for when daily spewage volume dropped by about thirty or forty prcent.
