I am about to win a steak dinner in a few hrs. There's a Faux News head at work who thinks I'm a sucker because everybody knows Obama is an incompetent failure who is about to lose to the real american job creator in a momentous landslide. He eagerly took my bet, and last week, tried to up it to include dinner for the missus.

That's certainly one way to up the steaks.
:p

Just pay attention to Ohio. That's where the biggest disagreement exists in interpreting the polls. The pollsters don't report raw data. They make assumptions about affiliation and turnout, and my understanding is that only four percent of people called are willing to talk to pollsters.

I've seen credible arguments on both sides, but Rasmussen has independents leaning heavily Republican, and in 2008, the Republicans led in election day voting.

the butthurt from this election is going to be stupendous.  I have consoled myself with the thought that whoever wins, the other people are going to be sooooooo mad that the internet may implode

of course i am also a sucker for quantitative methods, so i don't think it's going to be that close and certainly not a toss-up and not even a horse race.  but even if the black swans fly there will be several years of fun.

I live these days, sadly, in rural North Florida. (In a town, curiously enough, mentioned in last week's episode of Dexter) And this town is going to have an even bigger shit-fit than it did same time 4 years ago, when it was mostly too stunned and depressed to be angry.

Puns are so bad I will move them to the bathroom wall--even if they're already there!

:-P

Who was the troll - was it M'abus(e) (as I call him)? - who started posting on the BW under various names, telling me, "You can't flush me to the Wall when I'm already posting there!" Well...yeah, but... So trolly and I faced off every frakkin' night at the "users active" page, and as soon as he signed up again, I blocked him? That must have been M'abus(ive). :D

Jayzuz, you missed some times here, Steve.

PS - Now that I live across a fenced yard from (finally!;) non-crazy neighbors, a couple who are rather lonely as being 1) the only Jews in this WASP 'burb, and 2) the only Obama supporters besides Rev. Barky and me, we are going to walk over to their place later and surprise them with champagne. I do think that I should wear clothes, though. ;) What the hay, I wore them at Temple (yes, said neighbors took me to Temple last Friday night, moi! ). :D

Yeah, and it says "Research Journal" and stuff so you know it's sciency!

The question really is, though, how many bottles of beer on that Ark, BF (Before Flood) and AF, and if Ham barfed over the side, wasn't that a waste of good Pernod?

Obama's second term is probably the best outcome that anyone could hope for. The man has some serious problems, but he's parsecs better than the deranged freak that was his major competition…

The proximate “tinkering” logic of evolution has often been pointed out. In a sense, we can view the effects of the human form of FOXP2 as a sort of “tuning” that brought the cortico-striatal circuits that humans inherited from other species to a state of higher efficiency. Synaptic plasticity is the key to how neurons code and process information. Dendrites connect the neuronal map, channeling information between neurons. Neurophysiological texts contain hundreds of references to studies that note the roles of synaptic plasticity and neuronal connectivity in forming new associations and new action patterns—the Hebbian (Hebb, 1949) “computational” processes of the brain that appear to underlie virtually all aspects of cognition.

Step back, Jack, from four years ago.

If my calculations are correct, American Christians have just voted in our last presidential elections and won't be here to see if Mr. Obama turns out to be the anti-Christ or not. But someone with a lot more experience in accurately predicting the future has some interesting insight into the next few years.  His name is Gerald Celente, CEO of Trends Research Institute, and he's renowned the world over for his accuracy in predicting future world and economic events.  He accurately predicted the 1987 Stock market crash, the Fall of the Soviet Union, the 1997 Asian currency collapse, the sub-prime mortgage crisis, and one year before the fact predicted what he said would become known as the Panic of 2008, saying that giants would tumble to their deaths, which is what we've just seen in the fall of several of our oldest and biggest financial firms, and with the big three auto makers teetering on the brink. (You can check his track record for yourself at www.trendsresearch.com )

Celente is now forecasting revolution in America, food riots and tax rebellions - all within four years,  cautioning that putting food on the table will be a more pressing concern than buying Christmas gifts by 2012.

Not exactly.
