When are these idiots going to learn that humans are not "descended" from apes; they are apes? How hard is that to remember? Even if you don't believe it, you should at least know what the claim is that you're trying to refute.

Well, yeah, in the sense that I'm a Murphy and I'm descended from Murphys. But we aren't descended from any apes currently in existence.

Perhaps Lenny is mixing up his presidential daughters.  I still want to see a citation.

You're right, I conflated the two.

As did I.

Alas, though, Paul, I don't BS.  I don't have the need to.  (shrug)

As for a citation, alas, I don't recall any photographer giving me any documentation of the event.  And I doubt Amy remembers me (though I think I did try to hit on her -- and yes, I tried to hit on Morgan Fairchild too.  Hey, ya never know, right?).

But, speaking of photos, there are three different press photographs of me that I now wish I had, all from 15-20 years ago.  The first was, IIRC, when I got arrested at Wall Street -- I had let the local newspapers know beforehand and got a write up on the Sunday edition, front page, above the fold, with a photo of me wearing a t-shirt that said "We don't need a war on poverty -- we need a war on the rich!" (I also had another Sunday-above-the-fold photo for a piece that the newspaper did about the collapse of the USSR, by interviewing all the local lefties that they could find, including me -- my view was "good riddance" -- so that particular photo may have run with this piece instead of the Wall Street one, I don't remember anymore.)

The second was during a "Tax Day" rally (marking the day of the year when the average American finally paid his share of Federal income taxes) -- a photo appeared of me holding a sign that read "Tax the rich pigs !!!".

And the third was shortly after the First Gulf War began, at a rally in front of then-Congressman Don Ritter's office (a regular thing for me since Don and I were on a first-name basis -- ask me sometime about the night he lost re-election . . . ).  Some ex-Marine VFW guy showed up and was heckling us with things like "go back to Russia" and "you should all be shot for treason".  So I went over to talk with him, and the press, hoping for a confrontation, followed en masse.  So after a little chat with the guy, I reached out with both arms ---- the photographers went nuts, snapping away crazily hoping to catch me in the very act of strangling the guy ----- but alas all I did was hug him.  Then I said to him, "Dude, I don't want to fight with you."  "Well," he spluttered, "I don't want to fight with *you* either."  Of course, the photo that appeared in the paper the next morning (and the caption) made it look as though I tried to kill the guy.  And IIRC, that photo probably helped me lose my job at the Bethlehem Steel mailroom, since a few days after it appeared, I went to work wearing a T-shirt that said " 'Iraq' is Arabic for 'Vietnam' ", and was fired the next day.

I think any of those three photos would look wonderful hanging on my wall, as a reminder of the carefree days of my activist youth.  Alas, after 20 years, I doubt I could still get any of them (and I no longer remember the dates they ran, or even which of the two local newspapers they ran in).

But if anyone wants to go to the newspaper morgue at the Easton (PA) Express-Times and the Allentown Call-Chronicle and do a search for my name, there's, uh, lots there.   :)

I do a bit of family genealogical research online, so I had already started checking NewspaperArchives.com before I got to this comment, and though your name has some hits, I have to remember which library online had a free backdoor into the site.  Seems like it may have been the one I access for Oswego County, NY, but I'm not sure and can't find the link I'm looking for.

Unfortunately, neither of the two papers you've mentioned is archived there yet, but they're adding papers all the time.  I've come up with some good stuff over the past several years there.

The Intelligencer (out of D-Town) is pretty well digitized at this point, if you've created any anarchy down that way.

Date ranges are helpful (I know you said you don't really remember when), as the search file is generated by OCR, which isn't always very good at old newspapers.  Some serious butchery goes on, so sometimes you have to page through the paper manually and just read the whole damned thing.

Gossip columns from the turn of the century are quite entertaining, as an aside.

ETA - Turn of the previous century, I mean, as in around 1900.

I am sure they will be archived soon -- the Lehigh Valley PA region is actually quite large (population is over a million, I'd suspect), and both of those papers have pretty large circulations.

But what I'd really like would be an 8x10 photo, rather than just a print from a computer archive.  I suppose I'd have to go right to the newspaper for that. Perhaps next time I visit PA, I'll drop by and see if I can get one.

Since it was 15 or 20 years ago, I don't remember many of the details.  I do recall that the name of the reporter who wrote the "death of communism" piece was Jody something (and I'm pretty sure that was in the Call-Chronicle), and I think the name of the reporter who did the Wall Street piece was Richard (and I'm pretty sure that was in the Express-Times -- and there were two stories, one ran the day before I got busted, the other ran the day after).  But I'm no longer sure which photo ran with which piece.  The "tax the rich pigs" photo was all by itself with a caption but no accompanying story, and I don't remember which paper it was in.  As for dates, all I can say is they were all in the '89-'91 or '92 range.  The Gandhian photo of me reaching out to hug the anti-anti-war guy would have been during the First Gulf War, in Jan-Feb '91.  I don't remember which paper it ran in, though.

Never did anything in Doylestown or the suburb area.  I did get busted a couple times in Philly (the Philly cops are bastards, by the way), but I don't think I ever got any coverage in the papers there.

I never got arrested in Reading but did a few things there -- we lobbied the state of PA to put a historical marker at the site of the Reading Massacre (which happened at the 8th Street Cut during the 1877 railroad strike, when a group of state militia shot a number of unarmed strikers) and had a rally there -- there were some photographers from the Reading Eagle there, but IIRC, nothing actually ran in the paper.

I *may* have gotten a mention in the Paterson, NJ newspaper --- I gave a speech there as part of a commemoration at the Botto House of the 1913 silk strike (they were very happy to have a real live Wobbly speaking there, and *I* was very happy to be speaking on the same balconey that Big Bill Haywood had spoken from almost a hundred years ago).

And I did get on the local Channel 69 News in Allentown lots of times.  They probably have lots of footage of me in the archives.

Best you can do, eh Arden?

"QED."  Sort of on the order of saying "Hitler", "Nazi", or indeed, "Godwin's law".  The yip of the moron who has nothing substantive to say, just a bunch of cliches and herd bleats.

See, an intelligent person would make a case, you know, as I do and which Steve Story maligned precisely because it's above the droning nonsense that is the usual on AtBC (though I realize that some here do better--not enough to make this a worthwhile forum, however).

But you'll never write anything intelligent when I complain of your dog-like yelping.  Just more vacant attacks sans any kind of substance.

Now STJ did write a bunch of misrepresenations.  An honest person would attack that.  But you'd have to understand a higher level of language than you do, Arden (no, don't pull any credentialism on me, I'm discussing your inability to discern on that thread).  And as you've proven in the past, substance and truth just aren't your style.

QED.  That's your style.  I could have written "QED" in turn, of course, because it was just the sort of vacuous dishonesty that you displayed in the first place.  However, I believe in evidence and argumentation, not the useless cliches of the incompetent Arden.

And of course you'll never bother to back up any of your lies.  You don't need to, no one here holds anyone's feet to the fire (or very rarely) over, say, truth-telling, as I did on that thread.  Which means that you can and do lie, do not provide any substance, and you ignore the tightly wound nonsense of STJ to dishonestly accuse me of what I am not guilty of.  Well, you'll always be a good example for IDists to turn to as an example of a dishonest evolutionist.

And yes, I'm out of this thread (not a promise, as usual) as before.  I never did go back to the other one, BTW, as the lies of the Chatfields, etc., become too boring and a mere bouncing of the rubble after a while.  I've answered, and anyone who thinks Arden tells the truth is hardly worth bothering with any further.

Could you please supply this data for me?  It would help support your claim that Dendrochronology is a valid science and is not based upon arbitrary assumptions and circular reasoning.

That's really all I have to say on this post.  If this cannot be supplied, then I am ready to conclude this debate.

My 3 questions:

2) Do you understand what my argument is in claiming that dendro and 14C are not circular? Please explain your understanding and refute my point if you can.
3) Do you know that I presented evidence pointing out intentional misinformation and lying in every single creationist source we've covered in this debate? Do you understand what my argument is in claiming that dendro and 14C are not circular? Please explain your understanding and refute my point if you can. Please explain your understanding and refute my point if you can.
1) No, I don't.  Sorry.
2) No.  I still think it is circular and based upon arbitrary assumptions.  I think I have shown this.
3) No.  I think you are mistaken on this.  I think others have told you that creationists are dishonest and you have accepted this uncritically.

Get angry at the ones who seek to spread their ignorance to others. The world is full of people with a host of better options choosing to negate and destroy their bodies and minds anyway.  If you think you can help them, do so.  If you cannot, let it go.  If they intentionally try to drag you and the people around you down with them, get pissed.

Dawkins said (and I agree with this bit at least) that there are 5 possible explanations for someone espousing creationist drivel. They are (with vague paraphrasing):

1) Ignorant of the facts
2) Apathetic about the facts
3) Misled about the facts
4) Incapable of understanding the facts
5) Lying about the facts

I have no real problem with 1 to 4 inclusive. I am, have been and will be again at least one of those four. Ignorance is cured by knowledge, apathy is cured by encouragement, being misled is corrected by demonstrating where the misdirection has occured, stupidity can be minimised by hard work, but deliberate dishonest, downright mendacious intent to decieve self and others, THAT can only be dealt with by use of confrontation. Confrontation can get nasty. Couple that to the fact that deliberate dishonesty annoys the piss out of me!

If I can to all reasonable extents discount possibilities 1) to 4), then that is when I get annoyed. For example: GoP annoyed me because he was deliberately dishonest, his intent was to disrupt, annoy and play silly oneupmanship games, whether FTK was also dishonest  (if so, 'twas to nowhere near the same extent) I am not sure. I think FTK, if she were dishonest, was deluding herself. However the "For The Kids" moniker smacks of AFDavian child decieving and THAT makes me very angry.

So like the two esteemed gents above, whether or not I get pissed off depends on the context to a great extent. The simple existence of a creationist is frustrating and exasperating but hardly anger making. The existence of a deliberately dishonest creationist is a damned fine reason for a sustained campaign of bombing unto the 10th generation. Minimum! ;-)

It's not *what* the creationists believe that bothers me, it's the willfully dishonest *how* they go about trying to push their ideas onto others that pisses me off

Take AFDave.  He's one of the most dishonest people I've ever met anywhere, with his constant quote-mining, ignoring all contradictory evidence, creating his own fraudulent data, misrepresenting what others have argued, and outright lying.

I'd think he was a class-A asshole even if he was the world's biggest atheist and evolution supporter.

Best you can do, eh Arden?

I'm not trying to best you, Glen.

Be well.

I just thought I'd jump in here for a moment. I don't know Glen, but has anybody ever thought of introducing him to FtK. I think that would be "interesting".

BTW what the hell is that website listed in Glen's sig line??? ???

I'm not sure, as it hurts too much to read.
