Alan suggested I start this thread, so here it is. I was late to the game so does someone else have a good genesis post?

Does enough happen on that blog to warrant a thread? I think I've been there once in the last month.
Posted by: blipey on Sep. 03 2006,13:36

I think steve may be right.  As far as subject matter for AtBC, UDOJ is pretty tame.  Of course, DaveTard manages to be pretty stupid there, but that particular quality is blog-independent.

There just isn't that much actual science discussion that goes on.  Actually, when it does go on, it is a pretty decent introduction to science.  Biogeer, guthrie, lifewish, and others hae actually presented interesting (if fairly basic) posts on chemistry, biology, and a little cosmology.

Dave chimes in with inanities, but with only him to hold forth, the ID / anti-science brigade doesn't provide much fodder.  We already know he's stupid and he provides what little new stupidities he has on UD, not UDOJ.

Richardthughes, you magnificent bastard, I stand in awe of your new avatar!

Anyway, this may not be the greatest time to start a thread on UDOJ, since Janie only just got back from England, then I gather she had to deal with Hurricane Ernesto. Her site's been pretty slow the last couple weeks, unless you count the visitors arguing very entertainingly with DT, or, better yet, DT and Davison insulting each other. So Janie hasn't been posting much. Hopefully things will pick up there again some day soon.

Rich,

Alan suggested I start this thread, so here it is.

Well I can tell you that we are both suffering from swollen heads.  Our very own thread!  Thanks to both you and Alan.  It's nice to be separated out from the UD thread.

Steve,

Does enough happen on that blog to warrant a thread? I think I've been there once in the last month.

Aww, Steve, we wish you'd read more.  If you could behave yourself just a little, I bet I could talk Janie into giving you another shot at posting there.  She's lightened up a lot (see, she taught me something, I remembered that "alot" is two words) on the comment moderation.

Blipey,

There just isn't that much actual science discussion that goes on.  Actually, when it does go on, it is a pretty decent introduction to science.  Biogeer, guthrie, lifewish, and others hae actually presented interesting (if fairly basic) posts on chemistry, biology, and a little cosmology.

Basic is what she needs, and her science really has been coming along.  I really appreciate all the help you guys have been giving.

Also, we miss seeing your little clown picture there.  I know things get busy for everybody, but we both really like the literature discussions with you.  She's waiting for a literature guest post from you, by the way.

Arden,

this may not be the greatest time to start a thread on UDOJ...

True, and for all the reasons you mention.  We have just a little more work around what is soon to be our very own home, then we can get back to more regular posting at the blog.  They'll be plenty for you guys to fill up this thread with, but I doubt we'll ever get 200 pages like the UD thread.

guthrie,

Hey, I was going to post that!

If there's one thing you can say about AtBC, it's this:

You gotta be quick.

Kisses,
Kate

And me!

PS to Rich. You may be at cross-purposes. As I won the JAD office pool I get to have a guest thread at UDOJ. I don't have much time at the moment to blog so I offered it to you. The idea is to email it to Janie and she'll post it at UDOJ. I didn't intend to suggest you start a thread here.

Well, never mind. See how it goes.
Posted by: guthrie on Sep. 04 2006,03:30

I would like to point out that DS says he doesnt play favourites on the thread regarding the blog poll.  Which is kind of funny considering that that is his approach to evolution and ID.

It wasn't my intent to scare Dave away. He doesn't fair well in envirnments where he isn't the moderator. I think, nay hope, that like UD he will return.

Richardthughes: "It wasn't my intent to scare Dave away."

The topic of < that thread > was banning at Uncommon Descent. Most of the comments were reasonably on-topic. I did not wish DaveScot to run away, but nothing was posted that could not have been simply ignored. But run away he did.

After having my posts 'disappeared' without comment — by DaveScot's own admission — and a very dishonest action — he needs to seriously rethink how he interacts with others.

Hey, Zachriel, welcome!

Since I'd never seen your name here before, I was wondering if you were already posting here under some other name.

But anyway, welcome to our little colony of church burnin' ebola boys (and girls). ;)

We have a whole thread here devoted to Dave and Bill's pathologies.  I think Dave bailed from UDOJ for the pretty obvious reason that he cannot defend his actions and ideas in a free forum where his opponents are not heavily censored. He, uh, has no practice doing that. Davison's a loony, but at least he keeps pounding away regardless of what kind of treatment he gets until he's finally banned. In that regard, Davison's got more balls than DaveScot. Ironically.

I think Dave needs to just go back to that whole idea of being the Howard Stern of antievolution. He seems to do best with that.

I have lurked on AtBC for quite some time, but never commented. I usually post on the newsgroup talk.origins, or other such venues where people might be misled about the sciences and where I think I might be able to make a difference.

I was hoping that DaveScot would actually engage in a substantive discussion. Corporate Kate at UDoJ set up "a thread about that thread" just for that purpose.

What DaveScot apparently fails to realize is that in order to convince people, he has to leave the protective walls of Castle Uncommon and engage the issues. Who knows? He might even learn something, if he did. Instead, he confirmed that he has no actual evidence or arguments to support his views.

Yeah, feel free to stop by anytime. We'll go have a toast to the Dover decision. I'm going to save a copy of UDOJ in case I ever want to do a blog. It's got a great, dreamy, spooky look.

I'm sure everyone here regrets that we did not play along. Well, some of us did, but it was late in the game. We'll do better next time.

I really am going to miss you all, especially Steve. Ya big lunk. I humbly beg your forgiveness for having to sacrifice you for the cause.
---------------------QUOTE-------------------

That's actually what tipped me off. I made some rude comments, but considering you had Davetard and JAD around, it was waaaaay below the reasonable bar. I wondered "for what purpose is this person trying so hard to shield Davetard"?

It was a good effort, and you deserve congratulations.

Not much gets past you Arden.

I thought Steve's posts about having a contact at Camp Lejeune was a brilliant ruse, but is Steve saying now he wasn't in on it?
Posted by: stevestory on Sep. 09 2006,04:25

I wasn't in on it, actually. "Janie" wouldn't admit who she was. And it pissed me off. But I felt bad about my speculations injuring the ruse. So I did what I could to make up for it.
Posted by: Jim_Wynne on Sep. 09 2006,04:55

I was one of the ones who was taken in early on, and I posted about it < here >.  I backed off, thinking there might be something up, because there were clues, such as "Janie" referring to Larry Fafarman as a "legal expert," and the general tone of her erudition. I must say that it was wonderfully executed, though. I guess Davetard's phenomenal polymath, autodidactic information-processing capabilities were temporarily disconnected.  Now that the plug's back in, let the spinning begin!

Sock-puppetry is a hanging offense around these parts, but the governor granted you clemency. Unlike Dembski, you weren't engaging in sock puppetry for financial gain, and quite ethically, you banned yourself preemptively while the appeal went through.

The post in question was early on, Deadman.  It's title was "Message for Deadman" I think, and was in response to one of your Doubting Thomas type comments here.

As for the identity of the young lady in the picture, I'll not be revealing that, other than to say it was a friend of the family who found immense pleasure and untold amounts of humor in the whole thing.

Steve, please pass on my sincerest thanks to the governor.  I've missed this place, and it won't happen again.

Funny that it never got a mention on UD after the girls "came out".  Not even a "those damned lying darwinists didn't fool ME!"  Wonder if that could be because even his mindless minions wouldn't be able to deny the OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE?

Yeah, I can see where your coming from.  What 17 year old would know what an epee was, or have the chutzpah to add another circle to Dantes #### in quite the way she does.  My pet theory is that the prime mover in this is the entity known as corporal Kate, who may well be an ex marine.  ALternatively the youngster with the legs may be a sister, niece or gullible passer by.  We'll find out eventually.  thats one of the reasons I asked about the silver ring pledge, to prompt a reply that would get us more data points.

Nevertheless, it was a valiant attempt.  I have seen a couple of precocious 16/ 17 year olds online, and its great watching them kind of unfold as they explore things.

Fair enough, guthrie.  Remember that Janie's a lit student, though.  There were intimations that she was going off to Oxford, though that was never explicitly said.  17 year old girls don't get into Oxford by being slouches.  And she HAD to be well above average in the noggin to do the job she was intended to do, which was ask embarrasing questions at UD.  She really didn't get much of a chance to do that, but by that time, things were quickly moving well beyond what was originally intended.

Well I wasn't a Marine, but I WAS in the service, which is why Kate knew the lingo to keep Davey interested.  Most military jargon transfers rather well for long periods of time, and with just a little help from some Marines around here, I could tweak it in a hurry.

I was rather proud of some of the posts, though.  "Kissing Corporal Kate", "My Mistress", "The Dreams", "Mom Please Don't Read This One", "My Lover is Freaky", and some of the others seemed to me to have some literary merit that I really enjoyed.  'Course I might be biased.

It was fun.  It wasn't meant to get so involved, it just sort of spun out of control.

Anyways, I'm glad you're not pissed, though I understand your discomfort.

Well, those bits were rather well written.  And you did hinit rather a bit that "she" was going to Oxford, although I can never remember if they take 17 year olds these days or not.  They sometimes used to.

Humorously, he's still using that avatar to this day. In a way he still is carrying around a mark of his idiocy.

On another note, it is quite weird to read the stuff we wrote under the assumption that you were a 17 year old female. Too funny.

Darn. I really wanted to read the posts but for something so frivolous it's WAY too much effort to put all the vowels back in.

If this person is ripping off Lou, he failed to learn the lesson that you have to be way more subtle and start much more slowly.

But it might have been a lost cause from the start. Lou's experiment was helped a lot by how hilariously gullible and desperate for flattery Dave is. PZ is much less credulous.

Well, it's done if anyone's interested.

U Dream Of Janie has moved to WordPress.

It was a huge pain in the butt to get all the posts and comments imported over, but Janie just finished.  Now she has to do a bunch of clean-up and reformatting and such.

Hated to do it, but Blogger was down all the time, and was slowly but surely forcing all its residents to move to the new and much suckier Blogger Beta.

You can now find us at < UDoJ.wordpress.com >.

Drop by and say hello.

Big news for Janie.

She got cited by < Dr. Phil Plait aka The BadAstronomer > on his blog last night.

She also got an email from Jeff Medkeff, who's a former editor at Sky & Telescope magazine, asking if he could quote from her post, < The NSTA Is Feeding Us A Line > for his podcast science program, < Blue Collar Science >

Of course, I emailed him back to explain Janie's "situation" so that he didn't get blindsided.

I haven't heard back yet, so I'm not sure how he'll react.

Or perhaps the silence is indicative of that reaction.

Just so y'know.

< Quiet The Hum, Part One > by Kate

Posted by: Louis on Jan. 29 2007,09:05

LOL. Dude, whatever you're into!

There was a TV version of the film "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" (More Guy Ritchie pseudo London gangsterism) in which they did pull off a scam (admittedly unethical and badly done) which has on darker nights appealled.

One hires a venue for a Strip Night. One advertises for auditions (high class, no boilers). One conducts and videotapes the auditions. It is then up to one if one retains said audition tapes for personal perusal or sells them for a modest profit, thus recouping one's inital set up costs.

Now I'm not advocating such an enterprise, all I'm saying is that I have to regularly smack myself about the head and neck with my conscience and marriage certificate to prevent me doing it.

I come here with my hat in my hand, asking for all of your assistance.

The girls have been internally de-listed by WordPress on a whim, and can no longer be found on WordPress' category pages or even via the opt-in only Friend Surfer built into WordPress.  It's a service that lists recent posts by bloggers specifically selected by the user.

They are being censored, and I need to cause as much of a stink as I can to get them re-listed.

The supposed reason, as stated by WP support by email (after Janie asked - no notice before that)

Quote (Mark from WP @ February 2, 2007, 11:12 AM)
Your blog contains material that is not suitable for a younger audience, people who may be using their work computer and people who do not wish to read about such adult topics.
---------------------QUOTE-------------------

Yet other similarly themed blogs remain listed.

Janie has posted several times about what is going on, as has Kate, and as have I (though my blog has not been de-listed).

< Censorship At WordPress >

This is the first of several posts about it.

Unfortunately, since other WordPress bloggers will not see their posts listed, the girls have been effectively silenced and can't even stand up for themselves.

A fellow blogger has come to their defense, starting a new blog called "Censor This" with an URL of "childporn.wordpress.com".  The blogger (Joseph McCarthy) posts about the Terms of Service, and how the girls violated none of them, and then posts an open letter and emails WordPress Support.

< Censor This >

I'm asking each of their fans to comment on UDoJ, KissingCorporalKate, CrowdedHead, and/or Censor This and express your support.

Also, an email to Wordpress support at support@wordpress.com would help.  Perhaps if WP is deluged with protests, the girls will be re-listed.

Thank you for your support.
Posted by: Lou FCD on Feb. 03 2007,18:51

In the ongoing saga, Mark (the apparent head of WordPress' McCarthy Censorship Board) has now de-listed my blog.

Not for "mature content" - there is none.

But for bitching about his treatment of the girls.

Censorship worthy of a Bush Administration appointee.

I now officially retract all the good things I have ever said about WordPress.

Not to mention the large percentage of UDoJ's traffic that came from < WordPress' "sex" tag >.

These were not people who accidentally stumbled onto our blogs while looking for Disney memorabilia.

I posted at CHCB this morning with a graphic of my stats showing before, during, and after the uproar, which shows pretty well the effect of WordPress' censoring of my blog which has no "mature content" on it at all, but where I was posting about my displeasure with the censorship policy as enforced on UDoJ.

I understand that it's their site, but if you're going to advertise yourself as a place where you "strongly support the freedom to publish" and all that free speech stuff, it's rather disingenuous of you to be doing it while selectively censoring blogs from the view of that community.

Right.  Sorry, I should have been more clear.  The only way I can keep things straight is to really think of the girls as separate people, and their blogs as "Janie's blog" and "Kate's blog", so CHCB is "my blog".

So, for all of you who have been avoiding North Carolina, the alert is off--Lou's a good guy and stevestory moved to Florida! :P
