Thanks for the link, djmullen.

Can anyone tell me when UD was first launched?

As far as I am aware, an engineer detects design by comparing things to a big book (Or website) full of previous designs.  "Ahh, this one is a 1956 Smith mark 2".

So, imagine Dave sitting there with his Bible, trying to find information on the appendix, or parts numbers for flagella.

I've seen a creationist use the word "syngameon" this week.  Has anyone seen this on Uncommon dissent, or will they steal it off the creationists in short order, in which case how long?

(I understand it refers to a group of animals that acn interbreed despite their external differences that might get them classified into different species.  It may be an attempt to replace toe word "kinds".)

Dave's professional engineering experience does not give him experience with the question at hand.

There's also the minor issue that DT has no professional engineering experience (or education).  There is no forum on Earth (except UD) where he would be accepted as an expert on design or the practise of engineering.

To be fair, you can go to this site:

http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/search-bool.html

and search for "Springer, David" as inventor name.  You will find that he is the sole or joint holder of 4 patents:

6,393,586
6,321,262
6,212,631
5,936,608

None seem related to biology.

But check them out. One is to do with beeping and flagging an error code on bootup, and another is to do with identifying the computer when accessing online services. It's hardly earth shattering engineering.

I’d agree. Common descent from a single LUCA may be true itself but the historical narratives we have now may not be true themselves. Some ideas like land mammals to whales may have never existed (or persisted to this day) if the bearded buddha had never posited his bear story. If front-loading and universal common descent are both true then why couldn’t the whale have evolved entirely in the ocean and received the mammal-like features from internal information?

Suuure. Whales evolved from Ichthyosaurs, who in turn evolved from sharks, no doubt- I mean, come on! It's obvious! Just look at them! Amazing what a little front-loading can do, right?

Is this CRAP that's supposed to revolutionize biology? Is this the kind of "hypothesis" that schools of tomorrow would teach, if the IDers ever had their way?

Man. It's a good thing they'll never be anything more than cooks.

STRANGE THAT YOU ESPOUSE DEMOCRACY, WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE ONE AND CENSOR DISSIDENTS, YOU TWATS

The technical problem at Oceana's Bureau of History is one that requires a thorough recollection investigation. Removing PWE's comment didn't remove all traces of PWE. Ekstasis is still left responding to a comment that never existed. The revolution will only be complete when the language is perfect.

By the way, what did PWE say to provoke the ban?

Besides,
What if a friendly blogger wanted to ask about one of the blacklisted words or offered a counterargument to a blacklisted idea. Is that automatically blacklisted? I understand the need of some kind of filter, but too much encourages the kind of group think IDers are trying to fight.

What's the name of that fish that puffs itself up to look big? Reminds me of Dave who is again trying to impress us with his involvement on the Dell patent review committee. His co-participation in 6 patents doesn't seem so stupendous when you read what else he has to say:

"Engineers of all sorts, programmers, and those involved in development of business methods across the company were expected to submit between one and four abstracts each year as part of their performance plan."

Especially as he claims to have approved about 300 which all went on to become patents.

Surely someone who boasts this much about pretty boring technical and work achievements is insecure.

For example.

For the record, posting a family tree on a thread about inheritance resulted in Joseph refusing to post the comment to his blog.

Then he retorted in doggerel, "IOW you are nothing but an internet punk, spewing junk."

Perhaps the Materialist scientists are not interested in ascribing to democratic principles.

Materials scientists?

Quote
How so? For starters, they limit entry to only those individuals they deem “worthy” according to their own standards.

I say, lower the standards. If you can tie your shoes, even if they are velcro, you too can be an ID scientist. Maybe even an ID materials scientist.

Quote
Yep, an island of non-democracy in a sea of democracy. Is it time to submerge?

Good idea. UD should submerge. When all the materials scientists have been vanquished, then UD can re-emerge victorious on the internets. I guess we'll all be using the same computers since there won't be any materials scientists around to design smaller transistors.

Who gets to decide what is and isn’t taught? My feeling is that local school boards ought to be able to choose the curricula.

They can and do, except when there is a little thing called the Establishment Clause to get in their way. You 'member that? Them thar foundin fathers and thar durn democratic revolution? 'member?

To disallow establishment of religion in a public school is democratic. But, of course, none of this applies to ID, except in Judge Jone's zany opinion.

I don't understand why we had all of that discussion of the quality of DaveScot's engineering background. If a biologist were to expound on the engineering feats of von Daniken's ancient astronauts, I wouldn't be wondering if that person was really a biologist.

It's quite common for software programers, technicians, trades people, craft workers to call themselves Engineers whereas a Biologist must be degree qualified to be called a Biologist.

Along with all his petite bourgeois bluster and underwhelming achievements, DT remember seems to think biology is akin to stamp collecting and pipetting.

Finally, a secular Wedge document. It is, however, far more militant than its counterpart. For this secularist version is calling for a full-orbed atheocracy including public marginalization of all heretics. Here’s a tip: whenever someone thinks he is advancing Reason’s march through history, the enemies of Reason are disposable (if they are not willing to shut up and stop shaping their communities). This is a secular jihad.

Hi;

Yes, it's quite funny, and the reason for my demise might have been that I - just as an example og how dissidents were treated - mentioned John A Davison whining over at Brainstorms, because DaveScot had banned him from UD.

Ok, John is banned from just about everywhere, but Dembski is the only one that I know of that has whined about treatment of dissidents.
