Dave is correct, although sadly he didn't recieve that "rational mind" so it's lake of fire for him.

I disagree with johnnyb on a lot of things, but I have to say the following in his defense:

1. He's polite and respectful of his opponents, and unlike Sal, he's genuine about it.

2. He doesn't quote-mine.

3. He actually reads the biological literature.

4. You can have a rational discussion with him.

Another Record Month for Tardity!

Congratulations all on another record month in all the metrics! We continue to create a larger and larger tard-pile. Thanks to our tireless tards for all the great stupidity and a special thanks to our members for all the great uncommon tardity!

Thanks, Dave, for posting these progress reports. So much of this growth would have been impossible without your due diligence. And thanks to all the other contributors, both authors and commenters, for making this blog an invaluable resource for the ID community.

Astute reader Joseph manages to embarrass himself twice with his earnest responses to a couple of parody posts from www.thebrites.org.

From the first post:

Quote
The BRITES is working through legal channels to have statues of Darwin installed in United States court houses to replace the recently outlawed ten commandments.

Quote
I guess that shatters the myth that Darwin is irrelevant. And anti-IDists wonder why people refer to it as “Darwinism”.

However this is ironic. If “Darwinism” is right then nature is the only “court house” required.

Comment by Joseph — September 9, 2006 @ 11:18 am

Quote
Don’t take parody seriously, Joseph.

Comment by Strangelove — September 9, 2006 @ 11:49 am

And from the second post:

Quote
Intelligent design creationist Jonathan Wells, who poses as a biologist and scholar with Ph.D.s from Berkeley and Yale, has just published a dangerous book attacking modern science - and indeed, the whole of Western civilization.

With The BRITES’s enthusiastic support, The NCSE and Panda’s Thumb have dedicated themselves to destroying the dangerous Jonathan Wells. The only good practitioner of ID is a destroyed practitioner of ID.

Quote
Message to the BRITES:

It is a long fall from your imagined high horse.

On another note why don’t they just dedicate themselves to substantiating their claims? That is the way to destroy ID.

Comment by Joseph — September 9, 2006 @ 11:25 am

Quote
Why bother responding to a parody web site at all?

Comment by Carlos — September 9, 2006 @ 11:46 am

I wonder how many letters to the editor people have tried to send in to TheOnion.com too.

Comment by Strangelove — September 9, 2006 @ 11:51 am

How fitting, then, that Joseph's own blog is an unintentional self-parody entitled Intelligent Reasoning.

Christians can be IDists, sure. So can followers of Islam, Buddha, Tsaoism and agnostics. IDists being religious has about as much impact on ID as atheists have on evolution.

Really clever or unique stupidity really adds spice to life. Like DougMoron's essay about Intellectual Honesty wherein he says

1 christians like me can be intellectually honest because
2 no evidence can disprove god, while
3 atheists are necessarily intellectually dishonest because
4 they have to a priori reject any evidence of god

I mean, that was like 6 months ago, and I still laugh about that. Or JAD calling Davetard a "Homozygous pile of garbage". That's great. But Larry's stupidity is just grim and humorless. I've been to Joseph's blog before. It's like Larry's blog. The comments are funny sometimes, though, as people are moved to comment on how bad Joseph's arguments are.

Oddly, he never suggests that creationists like himself might be blind to the evidence supporting evolution due to their belief in the literal truth of the Bible ...

We aren't the only people who enjoy the comedy at Uncommonly Dense:

Quote
Is the Pope Catholic?

The New York Times may, or may not, as Elton John claims, have reported that God is dead. But one thing is sure, the paper of record did not report that God appointed Denyse "Buy My Book" O'Leary to decide in his absence who is and who is not a good Christian.

Still, our girl in Toronto feels qualified to report that, "Darwinist Theodosius Dobzhansky was not an orthodox Christian believer!" (RSR loves that breathless little exclamation point -- our creationist friends find them infinitly irresistible -- for a man who's been in his grave now these past 31 years.)

RSR, having grown up Catholic in the small-town, Protestant Midwest, is familiar with these sort of discussions. Our schoolmates used to tell us quite solemnly that we couldn't possibly be Christians because we weren't Protestant. The Pope they said was the Anti-Christ. The Whore of Babylon. There was serious doubt that the gates of heaven would be open for the likes of us.

Perhaps Protestant anti-Catholicism wasn't as intense in Denyse's Canada as it was in the Midwest of our youth. Nevertheless, it always surprises us when a good Catholic girl like Denyse, now locked in a cozy embrace with the sort of fundamentalist Christians who once felt as secure in their anti-Catholicism as they now do with homophobia, should so casually make judgements about what constitutes a good -- or orthodox -- Christian.

Not so long ago, O'Leary's Post-Darwinist blog was the source of confident predictions that the new Pope would open the Church's door to intelligent design. We hear less of that now following a weekend meeting between the Pope and his former students that resulted in reports that those present did not think much of ID.

That raises a question in RSR's mind.

Is the Pope a good, orthodox Christian? Is he Catholic?

Joseph is actually Joe Gallien, a moronic legend in the C/E discussion world and a Tard’s Tard if ever there were one.  His exploits include:

Claimed to be a qualified “scientist” because he has a Bachelor of Science, Engineer Technology degree.
Claimed to be a Muslim so people wouldn’t call him a YEC
Got caught using an anonymizer and posting under *dozens* of multiple aliases so he could agree with himself and pat himself on the back
Claimed that there are alien cities on Mars and the Moon

His normal MO has been to C&P the standard antiscience crap, then get into insults and mud slinging with those who rebut his stupidity, escalating to him making threats of physical violence against his perceived “enemies”.  I know for a fact he has been kicked off of more than one board for this behavior.  He did the same thing with me before over at NAIG, but when I called his bluff and gave him a place and time to meet he chickened out, of course.  Funniest time was a few years ago when the tard was making physical threats from his work computer, and someone reported it to his company.  You never saw someone scramble and lie so much in order to cover his ass and avoid getting fired.

Looks like he’s finally found a home with the other ass kissers at UD.  Comments that point out his extraordinary stupidity get edited out, so JoeTard can keep his temper.

I have a friend in Charlotte who went through a bad breakup. Shortly after the breakup, he got a communique from the girl's psycho brother in Seattle? I forget. Somewhere in Washington. Over a period of a few days the brother sent my friend all kinds of crazy threats. The brother described in some detail how he was going to cut my friend's throat, stab him, what kind of gun he would bring along, etc etc. Really nuts stuff. Well, the super nuts thing was that he then posted these missives on his own blog. Which was in his own name. And which also featured unpleasant discussions about his employer.

...A few days later, he posted an entry describing how he was fired from Microsoft after my friend sent the brother's supervisor a link to the blog posts.

Cheers, russ. I just got done reading a mini-biographical sketch of Semmelweiss, the physician responsible for identifying the fact that a microscopic pathogen (then considered a fairy-tale by science because we didn’t yet have the ability to see them) was responsible for the deaths of millions of women after childbirth. It was nauseating and sad to read the descriptions of the opponents of his theory, who couldn’t be troubled to wash their hands after dissecting corpses before delivering babies. Semmelweiss suffered discharge and ignominy but was ultimately vindicated. How many women died while this self-correction took place? It doesn’t bear contemplation.

Comment by tinabrewer — September 9, 2006 @ 8:20 pm

So Semmelweiss started The Research Institute and began advocating teaching the controversy in high schools across Hungary.

LOL.

Actually, there is a lesson in this for IDers. One of the reasons it took a long time for Semmelweiss's ideas to gain acceptance is, he did a really crappy job communicating with the scientific community.

Unless it's for something unpublished, I can only think it's because of this:

Quote
Why is it so hard to believe that ID is based on evidence of informational complexity and probability?

Speaking strictly for myself, it’s because I think the notions of “informational complexity and probability” at work in ID theory are vacuous by contemporary standards of empirical and mathematical precision.

One momentary slip, and look what happens.

I think that was a mistake: Carlos was actually engaging with people at UD, and was showing that one could have an intellectual discussion about ID, where views could be chan..

Ah, I get it.

I had been reinvited to post on Uncommon (after being twice banned). I had considered it, but it appears that there is no way to have any extended scientific discussion there.

Carlos was posting on-topic and politely. It must have been the off-hand comment about "notions of 'informational complexity and probability'”  Considering Dembski's bold proclamation to debate anyone anywhere anytime, this constant stifling of dissent on Uncommon Descent is quite ironic.

It might be interesting if someone were to compile a history of bannings on Dembski's blog.
